  1. I have been on record as saying that I don't think Gailey or Wannstedt are good at their jobs. If they are retained I will still watch and root for the team, but the "who cares" attitude that I have had ever since the game 1 blowout by the Jets will continue. My father-in-law is a Giants fan. Maybe I will start paying more attention to the Giants so I can talk about them with my father-in-law.
  2. I was thinking about that. Nobody wants to look like they don't care on national tv and in front of scouts from other teams. It just seems like it will be awfully hard to give a cohesive team effort if you know that the coaching staff is going to be fired.
  3. I wouldn't pin any hope on the Browns. According to ESPN they are going to fire everybody next week and they aren't trying to be coy about it. Not much to play for at this point. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/8791683/cleveland-browns-let-go-coach-pat-shurmur-gm-tom-heckert-report-says
  4. Is there a veiled reference that this guy is another Ben Roethlisberger? Other than the whole scumbag thing, I would love to have a guy like that on the team!
  5. Depth is the key. Once the injuries start, the season goes down the tubes. That means re-sign your veterans and search the UDFAs and waiver wire for depth, even if they aren't pro bowlers. Mostly it means re-sign your veterans. Lose Byrd, Levitre and a few more, and the depth of this team is in trouble before the season even starts.
  6. Since Chandler will likely miss the start of next season, I can see the logic in avoiding injuries to your best players. That just isn't the way things work. Players want to play. Winners want to win. I'm not sure what that has to do with this team, but it is the kind of stuff you hear this time of year.
  7. The only FS listed for the AFC is Ed Reed. Ed Reed gets picked based on history/popularity/tradition. I'm guessing that Byrd will end up going as a backup. And Ed Reed is injured so often, Byrd could end up getting a lot of attention, possibly even starting.
  8. I didn't mention Thigpen in my posting because I don't believe that he would be a good choice to lead the team under any circumstance. I was mostly talking about Fitz versus TJackson in terms of who would likely be the better QB at this point, and/or for the next year. However, since TJackson is never even active for games, Gailey must think that Thigpen is his first choice as a backup. This seems contradictory to most people's way of thinking on this forum. And I agree that they all should go this off season. I wouldn't mind having Fitz hold the clipboard next year, but only if he accepts a re-worked contract. It would take a lot of proactive initiative to get that done before his next big payday comes around, and it may be easier to just cut him.
  9. I think Chan is right. TJax was picked up as insurance in case Fitz got hurt. TJax is not the answer going forward. He has a one year contract. It is too late to see if he can make enough of a difference to get the team a few more wins this year. All the people screaming for TJax to play over Fitz at this point would be screaming even louder if TJax was proclaimed the starter next year and the offense was no better than it is now (which would be likely, IMHO). Next year should involve a rookie either starting, or taking over for Fitz after a few games. TJax does not fit into that picture. PS: I was never impressed with Chan and I hope he is replaced in the offseason, and as much as I think Fitz is a good guy, he does not have the skills needed to be a starting NFL QB.
  10. Of the ten topics shown on TBD right now, three of them are about Gailey's inadequacy as a head coach. I think the sentiment is pretty much universal. As I said in a different thread, if Gailey's title is changed to "Assistant to the Offensive Coordinator for Suggesting Screen Plays" then he would be above average. As far as keeping him as a head coach for another year, I'll let Sir Charles say it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gsReWvglK_I
  11. I'm on the edge of my seat... who is it? Is Nix going to pick a small running back or a slow corner back? Which is it?
  12. If a new coach comes in, there will be signficant cuts. If a new GM comes in, there will be so many cuts, we won't recognize the team in a year or two. If Ralph goes with the consistency theory, the cuts will likely be minor but the ability to re-sign free agents will be a bigger issue. Either way, the team next year will be significantly different from the team this year.
  13. I was thinking this myself. With no time outs, the dramatic on-side kick and Hail Mary to win the game would have been impossible.
  14. Speaking of Flutie, I was watching the Seattle game yesterday, and Wilson reminded me of Flutie. Not very tall, runs around a lot, improvises and uses athletic ability to get out of trouble. Wilson is a little more muscular, but the resemblance was there.
  15. Of the teams likely to draft higher than the Bills, how many would want a QB or LB (i.e., Geno Smith or Manti Te'o)? I doubt KC would entertain a trade because they need a QB, so if Geno is the best QB in the draft, he will go to KC and no trade up is possible. etc.
  16. You know, like brain science. To the OP, Good Post
  17. Don't hurt yourself. We have our standing golf reservation in Arizona on January 6.
  18. Interesting. Do you want to be a fan of the team from Ralph's home town, or the team that Ralphs owns? Maybe Ralph is just a fooball jinx.
  19. Mad cat has been all over the internet with clever (hopefully) captions for a month or so.
  20. Not that many years ago there used to be Saturday games after Thanksgiving. College football is more or less over after Thanksgiving, so the pros could broadcast a couple games on Saturday without stepping on anybodies toes. I wonder why that stopped. Maybe because basketball has taken over on Saturdays?
  21. I think the "Butt Fumble" was the last straw. Talk about turning a bad situation into a laughingstock! Neither Sanchez nor Fitz are QBs that a team can build around, but I would rather have Fitz. When it comes to getting the QB for the future, is it better that the Jets tried and failed, or that the Bills didn't try when they coulda shoulda last year? I know in many draft related posts, I was convinced that the Bills would take a second rounder to sit behind Fitz for a year, and I was surprised when they didn't. Ironically, when the Jets thought that Sanchez was their guy, they still went out and got McElroy. That's the type of move I was sure the Bills would make. I guess I am REALLY not the smartest guy in the room.
  22. Good question! There were four losses by less than a touchdown. 7. Tennessee 34-35 LOSS 9. NE 31-37 LOSS 11. Indianapolis 13-20 LOSS 13. STL 12-15 LOSS I think any (or all) of those games were winnable with a different QB or coach. Perhaps one or two of the other games (Houston?) would have been winnable as well if they had started a little better. This team does not do well when playing from behind. Chan gives up on the run, and the situation just gets worse.
  23. I'm sorry, I have seen this post for a few days and I have resisted getting sucked in. I'm bored and I can't resist any more. Chan is a terrible head coach. He is terrible at play calling, clock management, inspiring his players and getting involved with all facets of the game. If his title was "Assistant to the Offensive Coordinator for Suggesting Screen Plays" then maybe he would be above average. As a head coach, not so much.
