  1. It's not that complicated; you don't win without a good quarterback, no matter what else is in the barn.
  2. I'll bet he's on the Patriots' radar. We're such a giving farm team.
  3. On the field, nothing can top the comeback against the Oilers. Overall, being awarded the Bills franchise tops them all, until we win the Bowl of course.
  4. New owners with no previous experience with pro sports franchises frequently understand they need to bring in experienced, top level advisors or franchise overseers from the get go. Some go that route while others, such as Dan Snyder, feel they know it all and will thus be able to run the whole show. Then there are others, such as the Pegulas, who either don't consciously subscribe to either approach and apparently just choose to wing it. The ones who succeed generally subscribe to the initial approach. It's never to late Mr. and Mrs. P.
  5. Cross reference: Ryan's defense.
  6. Donahoe was a great GM for the Steelers. Year after year they lost top talent to free agency and he always came up with great replacements. Someone should have told him that things change when Buffaloitis infects you. BTW, Whaley is a good GM but this Gilleslee thing may impact my perspective.
  7. Spot on until you got to EJ. The chances of him suddenly becoming accurate and developing a feel for the game were slim to none.
  8. It's not that simple. If it was, you'd be drafting little more than Ivy Leaguers and Stanford guys. We'd have missed out on most guys on the stadium wall.
  9. It was more than a calculated risk. The guy was a cripple. Second round???
  10. With a title like this, it's a legitimate thread?
  11. I'd move down two or so places if we can get an additional two for this draft. Otherwise, stand pat, which will probably be what happens.
  12. I'm with you until the final paragraph. What's the Levy mentality to roster building? Marv didn't have to seek a quarterback, he had Kelly and Reich.
  13. The OL is ignored too much. It's usually a need but never gets as much attention as other needs get. There are even posters on this board who insist that you never take an offensive lineman with a number one pick, which I totally disagree with. RT remains a major weakness and, yes, should be addressed, notwithstanding the success of our running game. Unfortunately, this year wide out, corner, and backer take precedence but a good developmental tackle could be "gold." I've never been big for trading down but this year it may be a good idea.
  14. Thank you Sir. I'm an old AFL guy as well, going back to Day 1. It was a hell of a time, the days of Jack, Cookie, Wheels, Tom, Billy, and Lou. Keep posting.
  15. Colleges do focus on packing stadiums. However, they've generally not had an interest, per se, in developing NFL ready QB's. They want to develop quarterbacks that can win games for them, whether they'll be NFL ready or not. Schools like Texas Tech and Navy have developed numerous quarterbacks that put up incredible numbers and led winning collegiate teams. None of their quarterbacks, with the exception of Roger Staubach, have done anything in the NFL. Of course there are some college coaches that do want teams that win games running NFL-type systems. They'll develop NFL ready quarterbacks as a result. The primary goal, however, may be to enhance their coaching resumes to show their strengths are what the NFL will be looking for. Regarding a developmental league, it already exists at the collegiate level. But why pay players? They already get a free ride worth tens of thousands of dollars, free coaching, lots of publicity, and as a bonus, some of them may even learn something.
  16. Brady looks "right." What happened to him?
  17. Yes, Gilmore is quite replaceable, despite what he thinks.
  18. Keep coughing but Watkins still needs single coverage.
