Bobby Babich to call Bills' Defense
BufBills83 replied to Sierra Foothills's topic in The Stadium Wall
I agree with this, too. I don't know why so many people on here think that McDermott makes decisions based on, at least partly, to save his job or look for a scapegoat if things go wrong. To me, he doesn't seem like that type of person at all. I don't think he's sitting around like "I'm gonna have Babich call the plays but I think he may not be great at it and I can take over and blame him for the failures." I think he trusts everyone he puts in each position and if something doesn't work out, he makes decisions that are best for the team, not himself. -
You lost me at "2024 is lost." Maybe to you. There are lots of people, including me, that think we can still win the SB this year, mainly because of #17.

I hear ya, that's how I look at it. I just read the different threads and its mostly doom and gloom. Its tough to read anymore.

Wow, another optimist! So refreshing! I have 11-6 or 12-5 for the Bills.

But yet Beane is blamed completely for the WR position when Diggs is a malcontent that forced the Bills hand to trade him and take the big cap hit and leave a void in the WR corp. That's not on Beane and he shouldn't be blamed for most of this situation. The Bills will make the playoffs. I'll put any amount of money down if someone wants to bet me on that.

Receivers the Bills could go after?
BufBills83 replied to Desert Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall
Please explain to me why Worthy, Brown and Rice are "significantly better" than Samuel, Coleman and Shakir. This just isn't true. -
Curtis Samuel Turf Toe, Other Injury Updates
BufBills83 replied to Process's topic in The Stadium Wall
And we're never going to have Andy Reid. That doesn't mean we can't use our TE's and RB's to our advantage and still have a good offense. It's been done before. People need to stop complaining about our WRs ASAP. Its annoying. Nope, we're going to ignore those facts. And can we blame Diggs for at least part of this situation for being a malcontent? That's not on Beane. -
Receivers the Bills could go after?
BufBills83 replied to Desert Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall
In a heartbeat? Why? Nothing I have seen from any of these receivers would leave me to believe that either group is way better than the other, talent or otherwise. Coleman's 40 time was far and away the most complained about trait of his. I don't remember much of anything else that was complained about with him. What would there be? He was good at pretty much everything else in college. Ironically, when the Pats got Moss, they didn't win a SB with him. -
Curtis Samuel Turf Toe, Other Injury Updates

I mean, I expect 4-2. Anything less would be disappointing. The first 6 games aren't full of powerhouses. Also if we are weaker at WR, lets use more of the positions we are strong at - TE and RB. Why are we always talking about lack of WR and not talking about how we can use our TE and RB strengths in our offense? -

If you include Samuel, is Coleman, Samuel and Shakir any worse than Brown, Worthy and Rice? Coleman and Worthy are both rookies. Rice was decent but may be suspended and is probably equal to Shakir. Brown is maybe a bit better than Samuel when they are healthy, but I would say its close. Like, I don't know, that WR group isn't any better than ours in my eyes. Its the KC offensive scheme that makes them look better. -
Can we at least get through 1 regular season game before we start panicking about this? Even if the WR's are below average overall, we know the TE room is very good, which can cover up some of that. Can the O-line and RB's look good as well.

I agree, that's part of the reason why I wouldn't give a first and a second. And you're right, if someone offered a first and second, he would be on that new time already. But because of the new contract he wants, my best guess is he'll be traded for a 2nd, or maybe a 2nd + 4th or something like that.
-
A first and a second? No way. I would be ok with a 2nd but that's the max compensation I would give.

Bass struggling at minicamp (and now at training camp)
BufBills83 replied to Einstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
This was like, the last post I wanted to see about Bass. I have been very critical of him and I want the Bills to bring in competition because I don't want to be worried about missing a 44 yard field goal in a crucial playoff game. If he continues to struggle, another option has to be explored. -
I still have faith in Von as well. There is a play in the regular season KC game, I think 4th quarter, where Von beats the LT with a speed rush and gets a good bend around the corner to hit Mahomes' arm and force an incompletion (and almost a fumble). That play shows that he can get back to where he was, at least some of the time. Its just how often can he play to that level.

Schedule "Gauntlet" A Reality As Long As Bills Win Division
BufBills83 replied to jwhit34's topic in The Stadium Wall
A lot can change from now until the season starts, but just looking at the opponents, how they did last year and how they improved in the offseason, and how this Bills team has changed, I don't see how we don't win 10 - 11 games and get a wildcard. Probably win the division. I would say we go 5-1 in the division, beating Miami and New England twice and going 1-1 with the Jets. 4-2 at worst. I would say Arizona, Tennessee, Colts are close to locks for wins. Thats 7-8 wins. The Jaguars, Seahawks, Rams and Texans games are probably better than 50/50 for a win. We'll be favored against Jax (home Monday night), prob Seattle and the Houston and LA games is prob a close line. If we split these 4 games, we're at 9-10 wins. The hardest games are Balt, KC, SF, and Det. Even going 1-3 in these games gets us to 10 wins, 2 gets us to 11. KC and SF are at home, and SF is after a bye. I can't see us not winning 10 and making the playoffs. -
I've been wanting the Bills to bring in competition at kicker. Bass had a weird year. He wasn't great and it seemed like a lot of his kicks, even some of the makes, looked awkward. Like the kick at the end of regulation against the Jets week 1. Yes it was a 50ish yarder but it banked off the goalpost and in, so kinda lucky. Some of other ones just didn't look straight or they moved around. And then he gets a short one blocked in the Steelers playoff game and missed the one against KC. I don't want the season to come down to a kick in the playoffs again and we're worried that our kicker makes a 45 yard or less FG....those should be basically automatic. Plenty of kickers in the leagues are making 55+ seem easy.

I'm a big McDermott supporter but he blew the end of the 13 seconds game. I mentioned not rushing anyone at Mahomes for the plays on the last drive. I mean no pass rushers, 11 in coverage, not everyone deep but probably 3 deep, 4-5 intermediate 15-20 yards and then the other 3-4 short. Don't worry about the sideline because they had 2 timeouts. That way you have 11 guys in coverage when you know Mahomes has to throw immediately and its either going to be short and call timeout, or deep and hope for a prayer. As for Mahomes running, if Mahomes runs, that will take too much time. A decent run of 10-15 yards would take 5+ seconds and with 11 in coverage and multiple guys covering short, that may not even be possible cause everyone has eyes on the QB and can't rush past him.
-
If they run into that situation again, I would just not have anyone rush the QB. They only have 13 seconds, they either have to throw something fast, or hold onto the ball longer, in which case its good for us. They are going to do a quick throw so the rush isn't going to get there, and given the time, just put 11 guys in coverage and force a really tight throw.

Dion Dawkins Value - Extend or Trade?
BufBills83 replied to Warriorspikes51's topic in The Stadium Wall
I would only extend him, I would not trade unless the deal was unbelievable. A second round pick isn't close to what I would trade him for. If we want to compete this year, we can't bank on Van Demark or a rookie coming in and holding down Allen's blindside. Dawkins is pretty good and we need the best o-line we can get. Plus, continuity on the o-line is important as well. -
KC makes Sneed available for Trade
BufBills83 replied to Warriorspikes51's topic in The Stadium Wall
True, I mean this board is unreadable sometimes. It's not like KC hasn't made mistakes (Toney trade, drafting CEH round 1, drafting Sky Moore, etc)
