D&C'S MAIORANA: Clock Is Ticking On Dennison
BuffaloRush replied to OldTimeAFLGuy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
For this year being the remainder of the season yes. But think Dennison has a lot riding on Peterman. The Bills benched Tyrod for a QB that fit his system better. If there's no progress when Peterman takes over and the Bills miss the playoff, I do honestly believe McDermott/Beane will evaluate his scheme before spending high picks on a QB LOL all true, though DiMarco is a very good blocking fullback. I'd take him off your list -
http://buffalonews.com/section/sports/bills/podcast/ I'd encourage everyone to listen to the Bills Blitz podcast. Even though I don't like the BN Sports business model, the coverage is top notch as is this podcast from Vic Carucci and Jay Skurski. I have always respected Vic and he's an extremely reliable source. Keep in mind he brought up rumblings about Rex and Whaley getting fired nearly a year in advance. Vic's take on Tyrod getting benched for Peterman is that it was more of a big picture move. Not necessarily a few years down the road, but next year in particular. His take is the Bills realized that 8-9 wins will get them in the playoffs and there was a very good chance that they get there with Tyrod as QB. If they get to the playoffs with Tyrod that makes it harder for them to move on from the QB who led them to the first playoff appearance in 17 years. So at point in the year the team realized they didn't want to be stuck with Tyrod for the 2017-2018 season. Considering the fact of how poorly Tyrod has played in losses and the fact that they don't want him next year, they made the move to start Peterman. It's an interesting thought. Skurski argues that the coaching believes Peterman will run the offense better than Tyrod. It's an interesting listen for sure. So what are your thoughts on this? Does Vic' idea seem plausible?

Whatever happened to Doug Whaley and His Crew?
BuffaloRush replied to BuffaloRush's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No venom....Just wondering what happened to these guys. Like I said, Fisher and Monos have seemingly disappeared and Whaley has been very quiet. Whaley is a very polarizing figure among Bills fans - some will defend him whereas others disagree. You shouldn't be surprised that his name gets both types of reactions -
Remember McDermott pretty much cleaned house when he came on board. He got rid of a lot of people including most coaches, the entire scouting division, and even some people in football operations like Scott Berchtold. The only big names he couldn't get rid of is Bud Carpenter and Jim Overdorff. This seems to have done the trick Not so sure about this. Sal C said he had a hunch but didn't have anything solid to go on

Whatever happened to Doug Whaley and His Crew?
BuffaloRush replied to BuffaloRush's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
LOL solid logic there. Point is - Zach wasn't a player that would have made a sizable difference this year. LIke you said, maybe NO runs for 278 yards instead of 298. Who cares? Yes now I remembering reading that. I think he also said he said he wasn't sure if he would stay in football. Isn't it odd how Monos and Fisher simply disappeared into the either? At one time when the Bills looked good, Monos was rumored to be in consideration for a GM or Ass. GM position. Funny how things change. -
This makes sense....It gives the Bills a chance to evaluate Peterman against real NFL teams before making the big investment in drafting a QB. Also it allows McDermott to further evaluate Dennison's offense. If his offense fails to generate anything with both Tyrod and Peterman (a QB that is more suited to run the offense) then I think his job as OC Is in jeopardy

Whatever happened to Doug Whaley and His Crew?
BuffaloRush replied to BuffaloRush's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Man the revisionist history is off the charts when talking about Whaley it's unreal. People cite drafting players like Robert Woods, Nickel-Roby Coleman, Ron Darby Marquese Goodwin, and Nigel Bradam as the crowning achievement for Whaley? Give me a break. All of those guys are nice players that have been successful in the right schemes, but they aren't the difference makers you need to be successful in the NFL. To be successful as a GM, you need to consistently hit in rounds 1 and 2 of the NFL. Whaley's record in these spots was not very good. Funny how many also forget the fact, that Whaley as GM was responsible for mismanaging the cap some very very bad deals. Fact of the matter is, Whaley was a failure as GM and the best thing Terry ever did was to let him go Wasn't that the guy who started on the Bills when Jay Ajayi ran for 400+ yards in two games. I think a lot of Zach's tackles took place downfield -
Has Age Caught Up with this Defense ?
BuffaloRush replied to Punt75's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In terms of Kyle Williams - yeah age has caught up to him. I think that Lorenzo is playing out of position. He needs to rush from the edge not play inside. This season he has been out of position both in run and pass defense. Needs to be in a 3-4 to be successful -
That's because the plan likely was to fire Doug Whaley. They didn't because they didn't because of the draft. I thought it was pretty clear that McDermott had assurances that Whaley was on his way out

Whatever happened to Doug Whaley and His Crew?
BuffaloRush replied to BuffaloRush's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sure that's a fair statement about Whaley as a talent evaluator and you can probably say the same for the scouting team. I think though, you can't say the same as his ability as GM. He was a very bad GM and never found much success. He had no idea how to build a team long term and instead resorted going "all in" for short term success which left the Bills with very very bad cap situation thanks to lopsided contracts. As good as a talent evaluator as he was, Doug also made some terrible draft choices starting with EJ, doubling down on EJ with Sammy Watkins, and then taking a chance on injured planners like The Great Cyrus Koundjio, Manny "The Invisible Pass Rusher" Lawson and "Superstar" Reggie Ragland. -
I was just wondering today - whatever happened to Doug Whaley and his "world class" scouts, almost all of which were fired when Brandon Beane was hired? I remember listening to John Murphy Show around draft time and these guys were always on the air. People like Jim Monos and Kelvin Fisher used to come on and talk about the new draft prospects etc. Whaley would come on and talk about how great his staff was. I know that these guys got fired in April, but it's so weird because I can't find anything on them. It doesn't appear that any of these guys were picked up by other NFL teams on the scouting crew. Whatever happened to these guys?

Longtime NFL Scout Says Taylor Is "Below Average QB"
BuffaloRush replied to BuffaloRush's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes but he never rose outside of scouting to a GM or Assistant GM like most of the good scouts do. Also, why is he unemployed now and why hasn't he worked for years. Just saying, he shares some very strong opinions on guys like Tyrod, yet he can't find a job? Not saying he isn't credible, just pointing out the obvious -
11-13: McDermott and Coordinator Pressers

It's part of the reason, sure, but it isn't as big of a reason as some Bills fans would lead you to believe -
Longtime NFL Scout Says Taylor Is "Below Average QB"
BuffaloRush replied to BuffaloRush's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Gabriel does come off as a know it all sometimes, yet there could be a reason why he's never held a position higher than scouting and there could be a reason why he's unemployed. -
So former NFL scout Greg Gabriel who is also a Western, NY went off on WGR's Nate Geary who was defending Tyrod Taylor. Geary believes that Tyrod could be successul in a RPO offense, which makes sense. Gabriel says he's been scouting Taylor for years and he will never be a winning quarterback. Fortunately, he does think very highly of Peterman. Gabriel is very outspoken and is not always right, plus there may be a reason why he's currently not employed by an NFL team, but he brings up an interesting argument: Greg Gabriel @greggabe 7h7 hours ago How long will it take for Sean McDermott to figure out he can’t win with Tyrod Taylor? I think the time is near. Defenses know that if you keep Taylor in the pocket he can’t find an open receiver and throw w/accuracy Replying to @NateGearyWGR It’s been evident to me since preseason. Everything I said would happen has. Keep Tyrod in the pocket and make him throw is the easiest way to beat Buffalo. Peterman was brought up in a full field NFL system. He makes much quicker decisions. More Replying to @NateGearyWGR You are making excuses. Been studying this kid since he was in college. He isn’t and will never be a winning starter. He proves it every week. Sean should move on but he won’t until they are out of playoffs Replying to @NateGearyWGR Yes it will s fair. He is very limited and gets exposed by the minute. He’s no better than a backup in the league. Only playing no because they don’t have anyone better. That said I feel Peterman has way more upside. reg Gabriel @greggabe 24h24 hours ago More Replying to @NateGearyWGR C’Mon Nate. He would be close. Tyrod is a below avg starting QB. He struggles when kept in the pocket. He will never be a top winning QB

[Misleading Title]Watkins won’t resign in LA
BuffaloRush replied to Kingston Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sammy caught 1 bomb for a TD. 1 reception. And now he's happy? He has a lot of talent but it hasn't materialized. It would not surprise me to see LA pass on paying him huge money -
Search for "Bills Message Board" after Derek Boyko killed the old Bills Message board. And good riddance those mods were real tools

Funny that the narrative is now that Shaq wasn't drafted to be a pass rusher. That's not the case. In fact, had he not gotten injured he would have been a much higher pick. This season Shaq has been very solid in run defense and good at setting the edge. Still he needs to provide a better pass rush or else add "pass rushing defensive end" the Bills list of needs
