Offseason Discussion: Linebackers
BuffaloRush replied to Numark3's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Preston Brown is not coming back. The MLB is one of the most important players in McDermott's defense. I am pretty sure he'll want to upgrade for a faster and more athletic linebacker. In fact in a perfect world, he'd trade up for Roquon Smith from Georgia. Also he did lead the league in tackles this year and that should get him a good deal on the open market. That makes him to expensive to bring in as depth. Milano is probably good enough to either start or compete at WLB. As for the rest, it's probably time to let Ramon Humber walk, because again I think they want a faster and more athletic linebacker. Alexander definitely does not fit the scheme. I do think he could be a decent edge rusher in certain situations. But if the BIlls are tight against the cap, I can see them moving on him from which is too bad because I love his personality -
2017 Draft Trade with 2018 Value Points
BuffaloRush replied to coldstorage5's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think Cleveland and NYG probably will take QB's, but a lot can happen before April. I really think the Bills go after a free agent QB and draft a QB at some point high -
The reason why the Bills today today was pretty simple. The weakness of this Bills team in 2017 were magnified. In the end a great performance by the defense, could not overcome an anemic offense, specifically QB, offensive play calling, lack of talent at WR, and overall depth. Yes the defense did get burned by Blake Bortles too many times on the ground but at the end of the day they surrendered 10 points. Tim Graham tweeted out a stat that since 1941 playoff teams that give up between 9-12 point, end up winning 83% of the time. With that being said, as frustrating as losing to a team that the Bills could have beaten today, it doesn't take away from the fact that the 2017 Bills team completely overachieved given the talent on this roster. When a jagoff like "Miserable" Mike Schoop and his lackey The Laptop Chris Parker says "nothing's changed with the Bills," that's where I disagree. Sure it's a down year for the AFC and that factored into the Bills success. But the bottom line is that this year's team won a few more games that previous squads would have lost down the stretch. In my opinion the reason for that was coaching. Let's take a look at the Bills roster - outside of a few outlier it's frighteningly average. We all know about the limitations of a QB like Tyrod Taylor, at least in this offense. But outside of Kelvin Benjamin who many consider to be more of a #2 WR than #1, the rest of the Bills WR's definitely don't start on most rosters. That includes a Jordan Matthews who is likely a 3rd option as a slot WR. Take a look at the offensive line - while the Bills ran the ball well this year as a unit it's fairly average. In fact, Pro Football Focus rated our starting offensive as "average" this year. Players like Richie Incognito and Eric Wood that Bills fan consider solid, did not stand out: LT Dawkins 77.7 (Average) LG Incognito 79.1 (Average) C Wood 70.7 (Average) RG Ducasse 74.4 (Average) RT Mills 66.9 (Below Average) Finally the defense. It's a wonder that this unit held Jacksonville to as few yards rushing today as it did. Kyle Williams plays with heart but he's not the player he once was. Take Jerry Hughes out of the equation and again, most of the front 7 probably doesn't start on most teams. Yes some like Preston Brown might start on a few teams, but for the most part the Bills front 7 was filled with players that would be depth/situational players on most rosters. And outside of your starters, your depth is basically non-existent. Yet despite a very average roster the Bills won enough games to make it to the playoffs. Yes they did get lucky in Baltimore, but you can point to situations in any year where that occurs. The bottom line is I think we have a lot to be optimistic in with Beane and McDermott. I'm hoping to see a brand new offense and QB next season.

Rapaport: Expects Whaley to interview for GM job in GB
BuffaloRush replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
LOL to all those Bills fan trying to revise history. As I stated in my thread days ago the job did go to an internal candidate and that the whole Rappaport tweet was stirred up by Doug's agent. Makes you see a little more clearly where the leaks are coming from -
Rapaport: Expects Whaley to interview for GM job in GB
BuffaloRush replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
LOL the revisionist history to Bills fans. Like I previously stated, Doug Whaley is the most polarizing figure during the drought era. Fans love him to the point that they are now giving him credit for this year's playoff spot...LOL Please, Doug's strength is pro player personnel. His drafting has been uninspiring and below average and he had shown that he has no clue how to build a team. As for the GB job, people are acting like he's a front runner. It's already been reported that there are 2-3 internal candidates including Elliot Wolfe, son of former GM Ron Wolfe. There's no way Whaley's getting that job - but you can go on pretending like he was a good GM -
P. Brown tied for NFL lead in Tackles

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't he play pretty well for Schwartz's defense when we had Nigel Bradham at MLB? -
TD reversal: was Landry really OOB?
BuffaloRush replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I can't understand it. It looked to me like a fumble since the ball was coming out just before his hand or knee landed. Only explanation could be that he was on top of the defender who was out of bounds. Again a ****ty interpretation of rules by an official in NYC undermines a great call on the field IMO -
An Offseason That Takes Us To The Next Level
BuffaloRush replied to H2o's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
All of this looks great. But I don't think spending huge deals on free agents fits McDermott and Beane's style. Remember when McDermott was interviewed around draft time he threw shade at the old administration by saying "we are building a team, not acquiring talent." Signing huge free agents (a la Doug Whaley) seems to fit under the "acquiring talent" category. Also much of Beane and McDermott's philosophy comes from Marty Hurney, Dave Gettleman and Carolina. Look how Carolina handled the Josh Norman situation. Rather than pay him a massive deal they released the franchise tag on him. I can see them signing a guy like Star from Carolina. He'd command a huge deal but would be an immediate fit for the defense. Don't see them breaking the bank to sign Cousins or another other player -

My Least Favorite Reporter = Bill Barnwell From ESPN
BuffaloRush replied to BuffaloRush's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is 100% your opinion. You are entitled to your opinion. Of course, you are also entitled to being WRONG and wrong you are sir. But seriously, you make some good points. McDermott does have a long way to go in his game management. I also agree they completely overestimated Peterman's readiness and the situation they were throwing him into. That is concerning. With that being said, while the decision was a mistake, I don't feel it's as dumb as you and guys like Barnwell make it sound. The Bills had a QB that was passing for 65 yards. You say Tyrod didn't singlehandedly lose the game - but his subpar play was hurting the team more than any other position. They knew they needed better play and tried to turn to another QB to do so. -

Did you notice that about a year after Rex was hired, Brandon was officially removed from anything having to do with football operations. I think Terry recognized his involvement on the football side of the team was a problem. I disagree...IK is a player that wouldn't make many NFL rosters at the time. Rex put him on the field in a prominent role and he sucked. The decisions really hurt the football team. Go back and watch the film. He was terrible -

Maybe so - but many in the media had said on the day when the Bills signed IK (immediately after he was released) Rex was smiling "like the cat who swallowed the canary." Of course we can't know his motivations, but based on everything we know about Rex (from press, Hard Knocks, and Collision Low Crossers) and what the media has speculated you know he got a charge out of signing the guy that punched out the Jets QB. -
Calling BS on that @Doc Brown. There's a huge difference. The phrase "acted like an adult and stuck to football" is completely subjective. Many fans on here have gotten banned or infractions for expressing a negative opinion about the Bills players, coaches, or the organization as a whole I personally know from my own experience. I once got banned for calling Ralph Wilson a "cheap skate" for hiring Dick Jauron despite the fact it was well-known he frowned on spending money on coaches or front office staff. The other problem is that mods had their own agenda and enforced their own rules. They were very inconsistent in enforcing the rules consistently on all members. The main difference is that the moderators here are extremely laid back and cool. They also aren't affiliated with the Buffalo Bills nor do they work under someone who is emplyed by the team. The only time they step in is when its warranted. For that I'm thankful - we can talks Bills football here without having to worry about the petty repercussions

One of the most forgettable but embarrassing moments of the Rex Ryan regime was the bizarre decision to not only sign IK Enemkpali, but to actually try to use him on the field. If you recall IK got into a beef with Geno Smith for not paying back some money he borrowed. As a way to settle the score, IK sucker punched Geno breaking his jaw which would keep him off the field for a few weeks. As a result, IK was released from the Jets. The year before, Rex Ryan did not want to draft Geno Smith but he was overruled by the Jets front office. Geno struggled quite a bit during his rookie year which helped result in Rex getting fired. So as a way to say FU to the Jets organization and Geno, Rex signed IK the day after he was released. It was seen as a very petty move, as IK had little to offer the Bills Top 5 defense. Not only did Rex sign him, but he put him in the mix for starting LB despite the fact he looked like crap in the preseason. Then he went and made IK a captain when the Bills played the Jets for the first time to further add insult to injury. Sadly, IK did get playing time for the Bills and he was atrocious. He playing in 11 games and recorded a whopping 9 tackles and had 0 sacks. All of this - because Rex wanted to say FU to the Jets. Unbelievable. This moments gets overlooked quite a bit but man, was it bad,

A big shout out to the mods and owners of Two Bills Drive. I have to say since migrating here from the Buffalo Bills Message Board, this place has been great. I don't always agree with the other members views on the Bills, and vice versa, but everyone has been cool and we all get along. I also appreciate that the moderators here are not self-important jerks, that abuse their power like the old moderators at BBMB. Good riddance to them. The fact that the forum doesn't crash after games on Sunday is a good thing too! LOL Seriously though, thanks for this great space that you created and thank you to all of the members here for a great 2017 and a better 2018.
