I follow Tim Graham on Twitter and my timeline is exploding. Apparently, there is someone who works for the Jacksonville Jaguars in the finance department that went on Twitter and called out everyone who predicted a Jags loss. Anyway he saw Tim Graham's tweet about #Douggernaut and made a Bills related insult - something like "Bitter Bills fan? I get it, it's cold" and then said something like "If we lose in the Super Bowl, I'll give you a call (times four)" Anyway, Tim went off on this fool. This is savage:

All-22 of Bills-Jags from Cover1

I thought his name was Erik Turner and I'm not a fan of that guy. He doesn't take criticism well and will block you if you dare challenge him. Lame. Won't support Cover 1 -
Mahomes the next Blaine Gabbert ?
BuffaloRush replied to ndirish1978's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ridiculous considering Beane wasn't even hired at the time. If you want to be specific it was Doug Whaley who passed on Mahones since he was GM at the time right??? -
Wow - problem with people like @DrDawkinstein is that they want to give Whaley credit for everything that went right with the Bills - including credit for drafting mediocre players (Groy, O'Leary), players who can't get on the field (Miller), average players on other teams (Searcy, Cockrell, Seymour), and even players that were drafted by McDermott during his lame duck period (2016 draft). Look, Whaley made some nice moves - mostly related to pro personnel decisions. I will give him that. But he also had no long term vision and he hurt the team badly with suspect drafting. And yes - he is responsible for EJ. Bottom line Whaley is what his record was as GM - a mediocre to slightly below average GM who had no clue how to build a team a long term. So happy he is gone...Thank you Mr. Pegula for doing the right thing and getting rid of this bad GM.

You won't get much for Tyrod. Thanks to a shaky year and a predictable contract situation, team can wait it out until the Bills release him. I see maybe a 6th or 7th round pick. Cordy is tough because before he was injured, he'd probably be a 2nd or 3rd round. If they can show he's healthy than maybe a 3rd but I'm thinking more a like a pair of 4th round picks. He has a huge contract too that teams will need to take on. I think Lawson is a 4th pick. Hughes is maybe a 4th round pick as well

Buffalo Offense terrible in playoff game
BuffaloRush replied to Dadonkadonk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Shady average almost 4 yards a carry and would have had even more if his long run wasn't called back (thank Deonte). That's decent when you consider the Bills were running against the #2 defense that stacked the box because they didn't respect our passing game. What killed the Bills was the passing game and play calling -
Bills' Free Agent Stay or Go List.
BuffaloRush replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You're dreaming if you think the Bills are going to give Brown a big deal. I think if Kyle wants to play he'll be back. I also expect the Bills to make an offer to keep EJ, though given his health it would surprise me if they could outmatch what other teams will be offering -
While listening to some of the banter on the Rick Dennison debate, for the first time in a while I heard the dreaded c-word. Not the c-word that Bills and Jaguars fans exchanged last weekend while tailgating, but "continuity." Maintaining stability and continuity are obviously important to winning in the NFL. However, continuity is something that has to be earned through performance. For continuity to mean anything, you have to have the right people in positions, that either have been effective or show great improvement toward becoming effective. Too often at One Bills Drive, I feel that "continuity" has been used a way to excuse poor performances and not to make changes - even when the results and performance on the field and in the organization heavily dictate that changes should be made. Russ, Doug Whaley, Buddy Nix, and even Ralph Wilson would constantly preach continuity. Many times, Russ or Buddy Nix would use "continuity" in the most extreme cases ever by discussing outliers like Pittsburgh or say "Bill Belichick has been coaching New England for 16 years and won 5 championships." This argument would (and still does) drive me crazy, because they are extreme situations. The reason coaches come back year-after-year is because they've established a proven record of success. My take is that if you think someone is the wrong fit for an important role or that their performance isn't good enough, forget continuity. You need to empower the right people for the position. That's why I give Terry Pegula a lot of credit. He too preached continuity (likely prepped from Russ or Whaley) at the end of the '15 season and into training camp when Rex's failed to deliver during his first year as head coach. As the 2016 season went on, it was pretty clear that things were headed in the wrong direction. Rather than keeping "continuity," Terry got rid of Rex and started fresh with a new coach. If Rex was given a 3rd season, do you think the team still makes the playoffs? How about if we gave another year to Dick Jauron or Chan Gailey? I don't think that happens. This brings me to Rick Dennison. When watching the Bills offense this season, there is very little evidence that points to a successful year as an offensive coordinator. The offense took a big step back overall, was down in the run, and we saw Tyrod Taylor regress as a quarterback. In the end it was Dennison's offense that cost the Bills an opportunity to move on in the playoffs in a winnable. The only reason I can see bringing Dennsion back again is that word - "continuity." I guess you could think his scheme - which was largely ineffective and uninspiring - would be the same for a second season. However, based on his inability to make adjustments and the fact that no noticeable improvement was seen throughout the entire season, why should another year make any difference. Again, when you maintain continuity for continuity sake the only thing that continues is poor results. Really hoping the Bills get a new OC.

Poll: Will Dennison Be Fired?
BuffaloRush replied to Fadingpain's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
After hearing the press conference today, I think there's a good chance he'll be fired. McDermott and Beane made some very interesting comments today which make you think that firing him may be an option. There definitely wasn't an support for him. If they make a move, they need to act fairly soon. There are 6 OC currently open, and you have to think the dominos will start to fall soon. The one move I'm weary of would be keeping Dennison but hiring Ken Dorsey for a position on the coaching staff. The Bills would keep Dennison on a short leash only to hand to reigns to Dorsey if he fails. I just think if this is the plan, they need to fire him now. -
With the speculation swirling about Rick Dennision, this situation made me remember back to 2010. It was Chan Gailey's first year as coach of the Bills. Now there are many difference between Gailey's first year and the inaugural season of Sean McDermott. McDermott has way more power at OBD that Chan ever did. Also overall his first year was successful, whereas Chan's way not. However there is one similarity in regards to coordinators. In Chan's first year, the Bills sucked big time and finished 4-12. However, Chan was able to get surprising production on offense from a talent level that was average to below average. While their record was dreadful, the Bills fought hard and lost 6 games by 1 score of less. As you know Chan's background was offense and he was regarded as having a good mind on that side of the ball. He basically ran the show and called plays - he was coach and OC. The obvious problem with the Bills throughout the 2010 season was the defense. There were some talented players on defense (Byrd, Whitner, Poz, Kyle) but by the end of the year it was clear the defense was costing the team games. They were ranked toward the bottom of the league in defense (#24) and were blown out the last two games of the year. It was painfully obvious that Chan knew offense but needed more help with the defense. It was also clear change needed to made. Chan should have fired George Edwards( the current "defensive coordinator" with in Minnesota - notice the air quotes), but instead, being the loyal person he is, Chan stood by his coordinator and brought him back in 2011. The result? An even worse defense ranked 26th in the league. By that time, his hand was forced and he fired George. Sadly, rather than reaching outside the organization to someone with fresh ideas and a difference perspective, he gave the reigns to Dave Wannstedt who was an assistant defensive coach. It was an uninspiring choice and the results were barely better (22nd overall). And so, because Chan never could get competent people to run his defense he was fired and squandered away his last head coaching position in the NFL. Back to 2017 The current situation with Rick Dennison reeks of the Chan/Edwards dilemma. Like Chan, McDermott knows defense but it definitely appears he's going to need a stronger coordinator to run the other side of the ball. I think most fans/media that know this team well, realize Dennison's overall uninspiring offense this season. Like with George Edwards, you can point to a few factors that worked about Dennison (Tyrod, WR's) but overall the results this year were especially bad. I just hope that McDermott makes a better choice that Chan Gailey did with Edwards. Because if the move isn't made this, there's a good chance they'll be making the move on season later.

How difficult will it be to get back in 2018?
BuffaloRush replied to dollars 2 donuts's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I completely disagree. If you mean a couple years before we have a realistic shot at a Super Bowl, then yeah I'll give that to you. But take a look at the AFC - it was fairly wide open this year and only 2 teams really stood out. There's an excellent chance that the Bills defense is going to get better. They'll likely find upgrades at DT and LB which will help quite a bit. As we've seen this year - a good defense will keep you close in game. Offensively things can't get much worse. The Bills should have a new QB and maybe a new scheme. I'm not saying they'll make the playoffs, but I don't think that having another 9-7 or 10-6 season and getting in, is as far fetched as some are saying here when you consider what McDermott did this year. -
Alas....Bills revision history. Please, NO ONE wanted Goodwin back on this team. In his 4 years in Buffalo he never showed that he could stay healthy enough to play a full season. He did show some great speed as a deep threat but it was very frustrating because he'd always get hurt and miss time. He also had some very costly drops. Bottom line, his play on the field didn't seem to warrant a contract extension. He had a great year in San Francisco and good for him, but you can't fault the Bills for not resigning him. Woods did show some flashes with the Bills but I think you can argue that he didn't show enough for the Bills to attempt to match the big deal he received with the Rams. While Woods made a huge contribution for the Rams this year, you can argue his best season (2017) wasn't that far off from his production in 2014. The Rams overpaid for a WR of his caliber on the open market, the Bills weren't prepared to do that. Again, it's hard to fault them.

In this report from The Bleacher Report writer Brandon Thorn ranks all of the 104 defensive tackles in the NFL that played a significant amount of time in the league. You can read the criteria they used which includes numeric scores in bunch of different areas. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2751939-nfl1000-ranking-the-top-defensive-tackles-of-2017-season What shocked me is that out of 104 Defensive Tackles, three of the players that starter on the interior of the defensive Bills DT's rank dead freakin' last. In fact Here is the breakdown of their line: #104 Cedric Thronton #103 Adolphus Washington #102 Jerel Worthy #25 Kyle Williams (In case you are interested, Marcel Dareus ranked #27) So according to this article Kyle still ranked pretty decent, though most fans could see he's not the player he was a few years ago. While these rankings are obviously objective, I think it says a lot about the weaknesses of the Bills front 7, a weakness that is compounded by linebackers who sometimes don't fill quick enough and/or don't get off blocks. The fact that the Bills weren't victimized worse on the ground by Fournette and the #1 ranked rushing offense yesterday is quite a feat.

Does Alex Smith Lead The Bills To Victory Today?
BuffaloRush replied to BuffaloRush's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
But when Kelce was out of the game, he scored 0 points That's not my point - it's a interesting question. There's a lot of similarities between the two. -
Does Alex Smith Lead The Bills To Victory Today?
BuffaloRush replied to BuffaloRush's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Right and that's why this makes this question tough. -
I agree with Joe - I am getting a bad feeling that Dennison stays

Tyrod Taylor is almost as polarizing a figure to Bills fans as Doug Whaley. But here's the question - a few weeks ago, ESPN tried to guess the starting QB for all teams in 2018. I believe they select Alex Smith as starter for the Bills. So just for fun, if Alex Smith started today's game and all scenarios were exactly the same do the Bills come away with the win. At first glance, it's easy to cast a yes vote. But remember, Jacksonville has the 2nd ranked defense in the league (though maybe a bit overrated). Also Smith's weapons today would be drastically worse than what he had in KC this year (Kelce, Hunt, Hill) especially when you factor injuries to Benjamin, Shady, and even Charles Clay who briefly left. When Kelce went down to a weaker defense yesterday, Smith and KC put ZERO points on the board in the second half.

Offseason Discussion: Linebackers
BuffaloRush replied to Numark3's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Maybe but at the end of the day, they gave up 10 points! How much better could they have played??????
