Below is a great article from Manish Meta of the New York Daily News. Manish certainly does talk trash about the Bills, but this article is a good read. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/jets/relax-jets-fans-doug-marrone-wasn-save-franchise-article-1.3757872 Basically it points out two of the most important factors in Doug Marrone's success in Jacksonville. 1. The great talent that David Caldwell brought to the team (after drafting high for years) finally living up to potential. I might add in the big free agents acquisitions this year as well. 2. But most importantly, Doug learned from the mistakes he made as a 1st time coach in Buffalo. It does mention that people in Buffalo hated him and that he treated people in the building (and the media) very badly. Meta is astute to point out that he probably wouldn't have had the same success with the Jets because he'd be acquiring a much different team. You can say the same thing for the Bills as well - though had Pegulas gone through and hired Polian to run football operations, there's a chance that Marrone stays, Whaley goes and Chris Polian is brought in as GM. Who knows what happens then.

Mike Tomlin Should Be On The Hot Seat?
BuffaloRush replied to BuffaloRush's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
When people whine about starting new threads on a message board: I never saw the thread BTW -
I'm not a Steelers fan so I could care less - but the coaching yesterday by Mike Tomlin was absolutely atrocious. I'm sorry but his team came out flat. There is no way that the talent on the Steeler defense, should surrender 45 points to Jacksonville. People want to complain about Todd Haley's offense which did have some bizarre calls yesterday, but the bottom line is that they put the team in a position to win and the defense couldn't hold their end of the bargain. Further, the decision that killed the team was the onside kick with 2:15 left. That was a terrible coaching decision that essentially lost the football game. I don't see how Tomlin can escape that loss without any heat from the organization going forward. I see several changes with the Steelers this year.

Great comments from Marcel "Mr. Big Stuff" Dareus following a Jacksonville win where his defense gave up nearly 50 points. He sure sounds like a jilted lover that was dumped. Here's the best comment: http://buffalonews.com/2018/01/15/marcell-dareus-says-bills-organization-treated-him-like-a-nobody/?utm_campaign=puma&utm_medium=social&utm_source=Twitter#link_time=1516027750 Then Dareus talked about his own journey. Dareus said he loved the city of Buffalo, but then offered a sarcastic thank you to Bills coach Sean McDermott for helping him make changes in his life before the trade. (Last week, he said joining the Jaguars helped turn his life around.) I'm sorry to all you Bills revisionist historians out there, but Marcell is not the same player he was 4 years ago. Marcell is Yes he is a competent starter that is capable of being productive. And yes trading Marcel did hurt the Bills defense and the return they got for him was pathetic. The problem is that Marcell couldn't be trusted not to smoke weed or to do something stupid. He was one strike away from a season long suspension. Worse, his contract was so bloated and did not justify his production or his importance to the defense. Also don't think for a second that his contract won't have repercussions on Jacksonville. Next year, they probably won't have the cap space to sign any of the big free agent QB's. Sorry but to anyone that feels that Marcel is that all pro or one of the best players in the league is sadly mistaken. He looked pretty good yesterday but I wouldn't call his performance dominant. Also, he's playing on a line with two All-Pro defensive lineman and several other good pass rushers. Watch the game film from earlier this year - or watch the games against Miami last year. Marcell is living off his past laurels and I will stand by the fact that dumping his contract was a good move by the Bills. Jerry Sullivan put things into perspective:

Mularkey now out in Tennessee as HC

I think so too. He walked away from two situations. This one sounded like a bad situation though. He'd had an extension but a very short leash and have to work with a GM that he doesn't trust. Sounds like it he might have been set up to fail -
Defense Gets To Championship Games

Yep it's all about points - not yards. New England gives up a lot of yardage but when teams get in the redzone, they don't give up TD's -
I've lost all of my Saint Doug hate...

I don't like Marrone. But he has proven himself to be a decent NFL coach. Of course, when you look at the defensive talent he had this year it's not hard to see why. I don't think Marrone is that much better than the average NFL coach, but you could say the same thing about a lot of guys. I think the way that Marrone left the Bills was ****ty, but I do agree - there's probably a lot that went down with some people's golden boy - St. Doug Whaley that we have no idea about. Blake Bortles is a better QB than Tyrod -
A wise man once said "the enemy of my enemy is my friend." During next week's AFC Championship, Bills fans will be watching two "enemies" to the franchise. This can be bad considering the fact that one team we hate will move on to the Super Bowl. The good news is that one of the teams we hate will suffer a loss and miss out on the Super Bowl. Either way - it's a win-win for Bills fans...or a lose-lose. Question is - who do you want to win next week the Patriots or Jags? Jacksonville is starting to become one of the teams that I dislike the most. I'm not the biggest fan of Doug Marrone and while their defense is solid, I don't think they are a great team. If Pittsburgh plays defense yesterday, they probably are onto the Foxboro. And if the Bills had a QB, Jacksonville never gets a shot to play for the Super Bowl. I also am starting to dislike their fan base - as they are becoming as boastful and annoying as well...Patriot fans. The difference, is that New England has actually won 5 Super Bowls and Jacksonville has nothing. The Patriots are the Patriots. I don't want them to win another Super Bowl and have something more to brag about. I can't stand that franchise, the arrogant fan base, or the douchie journalists like Dan Shaunessy. So who do I want to win? Call me crazy but I am pulling for New England to destroy Jacksonville and put up 40 points on the "best" defense in the NFL (who by the way gave up nearly 50 points to Big Ben and The Steelers). I know...I know...cheering for New England. But who cares? I think their legacy is already written. Winning another Super Bowl won't do anything either way. I want to see Jacksonville get destroyed and watch those trash talking crying in the locker room. Go Patriots!

Fair enough and thanks for the info on Tim's past on here. I had no idea. I think the issue with print journalism is more the medium than anything. Newspapers made most of their money from local advertising and a smaller amount from subscriptions. People aren't getting news from newspapers, when they can get news easier and quicker from online resources. I think the whole Buffalo Blitz subscription is a joke
