The Irony of Bucky Brooks Ranking NFL Draft Prospects
BuffaloRush replied to BuffaloRush's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Explain how Mayock was a bust again. From my research he was a 10th round pick and played in the CFL. Doesn’t really sound high a level draft pick -
The Irony of Bucky Brooks Ranking NFL Draft Prospects

WRONG you at sir. Bucky was drafted as a WR in the second round. He played 3 games for the Bills before missing the season with an injury. He was cut in training camp as a WR and was not picked up the rest of the 1995 season. He did try to stage a comeback as a DB but it was largely unsuccessful. He was no George Wilson Interesting view point. I don’t thibk Bucky views it like that -

Do this: 1. Read the original post again 2. look up the word "irony" for me Then you'll understand -
The Irony of Bucky Brooks Ranking NFL Draft Prospects

Read it again fam -- I never said he was a bad scout. All I said is that it's ironic given the fact that he is a former failed player himself. It's not hard to understand -
The Irony of Bucky Brooks Ranking NFL Draft Prospects

Wrong...it's not really the same point. I never said Bucky shouldn't be allowed to do his job - I just said it''s an ironic topic coming from a former college player that was a HUGE bust himself. David Carr was a 10 year NFL verteran. He was not a superstar and you can certainly make an argument that he was a bust. So if Carr's going to be doing a segment on which QB's will be busts and which ones won't, then yeah that is also ironic. -

You don't find the fact that a failed draft pick is now assessing whether other players will be successful or not successful in the NFL eh? I guess it makes a lot of sense for Rex Ryan to host a segment on coaches that should be fired on NFL Countdown -
The Irony of Bucky Brooks Ranking NFL Draft Prospects

True but the difference is Michael Jordan doesn't provide commentary whether prospective GM's will be successful or not. I still can't think about Bucky talk the draft without remembering what a bust he was himself. IMO there's a lot of irony there... -
I have to admit, I am a fan of NFL.com's Bucky Brooks as an analyst. I think he provides very good insight and is well-spoken and articulate. Earlier today he was a guest on the John Murphy Show (he said the Bills should be conservative in the draft with first round picks and think they have a mid-range QB in mind) and he was evaluating which players would be successful in the NFL draft and which ones (namely Baker Mayfield) may not. As I said above, I think Bucky is knowledgeable and good at his job but doesn't anyone see the irony here? Many of the longtime Bills fans know that Bucky was probably one of John Butler's biggest draft busts. He was taken in the mid-to-high second round drafting as a potential replacement for the great Andre Reed. He hardly got on the field and when he did it appeared that Bucky was simply not a good NFL player. He only played 3 games his rookie year before getting injured, but didn't catch a pass. He was fully recovered by the start of the 1995 season but was beaten out by mid round draft picks like Justin Armour and Russell Copeland and aging veterans Billy Brooks, Steve Tasker. Eventually he tried his luck at CB and bounced around from team-to-team to no avail. Again, I'm not saying that you have to be a success NFL draft pick to evaluate talent, I'm just saying it's ironic that the guy who is predicting the draft value and success of college players, was himself, extremely unsuccessful as a high draft pick.

Bills to explore trade market for tyrod
BuffaloRush replied to The juice's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The team that trades anymore than a 7th round draft pick for Tyrod are likely the biggest fools in the NFL. It's a forgone conclusion that the team won't pick up his option and they'll have a chance to sign him for free. -
I get the sense that the analytics guy won’t have much of a say in football operations. It sounds like he’s the general analytics person for the organization. Notice how his title has nothing to do with football? Also the Application Development part makes me think he’s more on the IT/Business side than he is in McDermott’s headphones like the dude in Philly

Mueller was not that good. Take a look at his stats. He was just a guy on an offense of superstars. There’s a reason why the Bills cut him in 91 and why no other team signed him I stand by my list 100% Kinnebrew wasn’t in Buffalo long enough to make the list. I do have to admit I was surprised to look back and see that he rushed for 500 yards. I don’t remember him being that big of a focal point in 1989 and he had a limited impact on a team that underachieved to a 9-7 record that year.
-
In actuality Mueller’s numbers weren’t as great as I thought. He made one huge TD to win a game vs The Jets in 1990 but that’s pretty much his claim to fame. Kinnebrew had some nice season with Cincy but was fairly broken down in 1989. He too had a fairly indistinguishable. More like Harmon Kinnebrew Come on boys... I said all joking aside. Focusing strictly on his play on the football field

So my last “Top 5” thread was panned badly by some for being too negative. Speaking of negative many have said Fullback is a “dead position” in the NFL. Let’s take a second and remember the good times...or the good ones. Here goes a new attempt at a fun thread and a question that’s not easy to answer. Who was the best Bills FB of all time?!?!? Here are my Top 5 fullbacks from my perspective: 5. Corey McIntyre - All jokes aside this guy was the prefect blocking fullback. The ideal player to run ahead of Fred Jackson. 4. Jerome Felton Spencer - He was signed to a deal that was not favorable to the team but the dude could play FB. A punishing blocker who also could catch when given the opportunity. 3. Carwell Gardiner - when Polian drafted him in Round 2, I’m sure he saw more of a Tom Rathman sort of role in the K-Gun. But Carwell made some huge blocks for Thurman and Kenneth Davis and also made the Pro Bowl. He could carry the ball if he had to as well. 2. San Gash - Tremendous blocker who opened up huge holes and made average RB’s like Antwan Smith and Johnathan Linton look great. 1. Larry Centers - only played 1 year in Buffalo but had an amazing impact. He caught 80 balls as a FB. Unreal. Unfortunately his team was bad, but Larry is #1 in my book. Honorable Mention: Jaime Mueller (not that good but memorable) Nate Turner (Too many injuries) Tim Tindale (Could have been used better) Frank Sommers (meh) Patrick DiMarco (Overpaid and Underperformed) Mike Tolbert (Never again)

Why Did Mitch Frerotte Never Wrestle For WWF?
BuffaloRush replied to BuffaloRush's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I’m guessing it was due to injuries because I think he signed a decent FA contract with Seattle in 1993 (ironically along with House Ballard and Nate Odomes the next year) but never really played much. -
With all the talk about Rob Gronkowski potentially starting a career in acting/wrestling when he retired, if you're a long-time Bills fan you had to think of this. Do you remember Mitch "The Pitbull" Frerotte. #59 the guard who rocked the 80's mullet and the black face paint to match. In the same way that everyone mentions Harvard and wedding rings when Ryan Fitzpatrick plays, announcers would also talk about Frerotte's future career in WWF. I believe that the WWF even gave Mitch a shout out on Monday Night Raw the week before Super Bowl 27. Then for some reason Frerotte's wrestling career never happened. This always baffled me because it seemed like they talked about his future WWF career every week. The Washington Post even wrote an article about it (I forgot that Mitch actually scored a playoff TD in 1992/1993): https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/sports/1993/01/11/wwf-life-awaits-bills-pit-bull/6147908b-d147-4c18-9a03-6830ee4c3d78/?utm_term=.2e5a5969faff Anyone know what happened to Mitch's wrestling career that never happened???
