Was trading for Cornelius Bennett the right move?
BuffaloRush replied to Buffalo86's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is an interesting thread and I love questioning some of these historical decisions. I do wonder if some of the veterans will give you crap about not posting a thread about college QB’s or posting a “we have too many holes to fill” in the headline Overall I would say that the trade was worth it, considering that he was a cornerstone of a team that went to 4 straight Super Bowls. Clearly they did bypass some exceptional talent, and perhaps their combined accomplishments are greater than Bennet individually but but I think this was the right trade for the Bills. -
THE GREAT DEBATE: Was Mario Williams A Good Signing?

I misread your thread. I thought you were asking which guys took games over and had a bigger impact that Mario. Those 2 players certainly did. -

JJ Watt and Khalil Mack LAMP thread? Thanks for being such a diva @LabattBlue. I will post whatever I want. also I don’t recall this being a Buffalo Bills Current Events Message Board. The history of the team in free agency is topical and I will continue to post things Ike this -
Ironically McCargo, as bad as he was, played 5 seasons with the Bills. Quite the long tenure for a player who was injured and underperformed regularly. Maybin had about a half-season run with the Jets. He racked up 6 sacks as a pass rush specialist which is not bad, but certainly not worthy of his draft status. Though many on this message board would disagree if he did it as a Bill

THE GREAT DEBATE: Was Mario Williams A Good Signing?

One outlier season? He was the 1995 Defensive MVP and had a quantifiable improveable for the defense. Funny even during his best season, I don’t remember Mario ever in the discussion or getting one single vote for for DMVP. -

LAMP thread? maybe I should just start a new thread about rumors from WGR’s B-Team DJ or start yet another thread about how the Bills have “too many holes to fill” before drafting a aQB. -

Who cares? Because the guy wasn’t worth the huge salary we were paying him. That money could have been spent on several better players. Remember the 2012-2013 that Mario played on were still among the worst in the league. His presence alone didn’t have the drastic improvements that you would think a player that commanded that kind of salary would. IMO Bryce Paup in 1995 was a much better signing for the Bills than Mario -

No, You said the topic was not debatebable as to indicate that most fans felt the same way. He fact the the poll is around 50/50 shows that this is, in fact, a very debatable topic. Based on this poll, I think Bills fans would rather have a DE -

Because it was 54-46 when I posted. I think many of us who voted “no,” don’t feel that he lived up to his contract as being the highest paid defensive player in the NFL. I can’t recall anyone saying that Mario was one of the best players in the NFL, yet he was paid like one -

Funny because, go figure, not all fans feel the same way you do. -

You are in the minority, because when you take a look at the polls its nearly split 50/50. There's no doubt Mario had a few great seasons, but keep in mind he was the highest paid defensive player in the NFL. Do you really feel that his performance lived up to that monster contract? -

Yeah I agree with you here. I wouldn't call the deal a bust, but I never thought that Mario played like the best defender in the NFL as he was paid to do. -
