Rasul Douglas contract restructure... saves $2.5 mill
Jerome007 replied to Dablitzkrieg's topic in The Stadium Wall
Of course we all don't mind when cap space is freed up, and the player gets his salary as a signing bonus. But do these restructures simply free up cap space... or kick it down the road in future dead cap space? -
I'm a HUGE JA17 fan. He is THE main reason the Bills can remain hyper competitive, even with the current salary cap woes. But I agree with you. This last season, he had a very good OL, a running game, little injuries on the O side, etc. Diggs was, for sure, a #1 WR. Just look at the stats! He did falter in the 2nd half of the season, and Davis was on and off. But Kincaid came up. Perfect? Of course not! Far from it. But let's look at the damn Chiefs. They had a great OL, a much improved defense... but don't tell me their WR core was spectacular! Yet they won again. Any improvement is welcomed, but no team has a perfect roster. Fans focus on all the woes.

Even if Reid and crew are better, what do you want the Bills to do? I'd say McD is Top 10 at the very least, close to the Top 5. So yeah, a few coaches are better than him, I don't doubt that. But if you fire him, then what? 49ers fans are saying the same for Shanahan what Bills fans are saying for McD. Yet they lost in the Superbowl in overtime! Only 1 team out of 32 is happy come the end of the season. Bills lost by a tiny margin to the SB champs this time, and well, while that 13 sec fiasco is on the D coaches, they had lost in OT. As if that was a sign they suck or something. Chiefs find a way to win, Bills have to do the same. But they sure can do it.

Smallish "victory" for later giving up half of your earnings...

Babich has done a tremendous job for position coaching, for the players on his watch. Back ups were always ready and performed, not confused and whatnot. Will he make a a good DC? That's a different story. McD wanted some help, promote a guy he likes and that doesn't threaten him. That's fine you know. Joe Brady earned his job with real world tests. It's true it doesn't equate for much coaching shakeups does it. But McD has "only" eleven playoff games with the Bills. People judge quick, and in a way they should, but that's not much. That 13 second is on him though. But the rest, it was close games except the Bengals. Reid was always seen as the good season coach but bad playoff one. Now that tag is gone for good. Can McD do the same? Let's hope so! Do I think there are better coaches than McD. Yes. But who would replace him? With all the wins in a row come crunch time, he earned his stay. We'll see if it's for good or for bad. But so far Josh Allen Bills have only lost in the playoffs to the very top teams. Is it frustrating and all? Of course. But it's not something you scratch it all and start from zero again! It's like so many fans expect 17-0 seasons and a Superbowl everytime. Yes, we all want ONE. Just ONE please! (We'll get greedy after ha ha). But asking for major upheaval is almost weird. Beane has to manage the cap well. He has a tough one ahead, and he will decide a lot of things. More than anyone else probably for next season.

Leslie Frazier interviewing for Dolphins DC
Jerome007 replied to Buffalo_Stampede's topic in The Stadium Wall
That's the thing with the Rooney rule: hard to know if the Fish are serious or just want to satisfy the quota... -
I was POed last few years at all the praises constantly thrown at Spagnuolo (Chiefs DC) as, well, their D was the weak point and often bottom of the pack. Look at what he can do this year with good players! I know people love to say it's the weakest Mahomes team but I disagree. Their WRs core sure is the weakest on his tenure, but the OLine and defense are top now. To all the "Beane hasn't surrounded Josh with enough weapons", meaning WRs, who KC has got that is so good? Who is better than Diggs over there? McD is here to stay, but yeah, better coaches would get more results than he did IMO. BUT, that being said, there is no shame in being bested by the very best coaches. And before getting rid of any coach or player, you have to be sure the replacement is better. Mc D is a Top 8 IMO.

So using a 1st round pick on Kincaid, drafting Torrence, getting McGovern, that was minor stuff? Some of you act like if superstar WRs are just on some shelves, waiting to be signed. And as if the salary cap was just a nuisance. ALL teams have weak links. Diggs was a top receiver, one of the very best. He's had a subpar end of the year, and we don't know why, but let's not pretend Beane could have predicted this.

It seems most speed fast twitched guys are also more impulsive, adventurous and all. And no, not a race things. In pro cycling (Tour de France...) the sprinters are usually the crazier ones. WRs are also divas who want the ball, so even if most QBs are at the top of the totem pole, many top WRs will hassle them all the time to get the ball.

Which QB do you want to win the Super Bowl?
Jerome007 replied to Joe Ferguson's topic in The Stadium Wall
This I have a deep competitive near-hatred for Mahomes and Lamar now. I'm not a jealous guy at all in my life, but I can't stand one of these two teams winning the SB, at least until the Bills and Josh doe the same! It remains a TEAM sport. If Josh himself crumbled and played bad, it'd be one thing. Anyway, we don't control who will win, so put little energy in this. I'd rather it be Purdy and then he gets a huge raise so weakens SF in one way or another. But at the end, any winner should fuel Josh and the Bills to want win it all! Shutting the noise is a motivation. Of course, they don' pay THAT much attention to it, but it's so non-ending and relentless that they can't ignore it either. -
O sack. And I think just 1 in the Pittsburgh game. And with a LOUD crowd that certainly helped to make opposing OLinemen nervous and deaf. Against KC, what was even worse than 0 sack, was getting gashed with the runs inside. LBs were decimated, but Klein is good against the run. Good enough that if the DLine did its job. they would have stopped a lot more.

McD played SAFE??? What? That (horrible) fake punt was playing safe? Instead of running at the end to at least wind down the clock, they went for passes, for the TD. It failed, but that's not playing safe! That narrative has got to go. Chiefs did more tweaking in the 2nd half, and yes I do feel they were coached better, but you guys act like the Bills were blown out. Did McD dropped passes, did he miss the field goal? I am NOT saying he is the answer. I too feel sometimes he is not clutch and might be very good but not great. But he IS very good. Nothing like your own fanbase to find all the faults of their own players and coaches, while thinking other coaches and players are so awesome. Just like a nagging wife.

Josh is real leader. He didn't say much, but the way he said i was perfect. Some people on this board could pick some of his outlook.

Can We End This Nonsense About Homefield Advantage Now?
Jerome007 replied to K D's topic in The Stadium Wall
Home field IS an advantage, but not a "sure win" one. WTH is the point? Ask the Dolphins if they liked going to play in artic KC instead of hosting a game? It helps, it's just no guarantee. -
Maybe the most incredible stat of the night
Jerome007 replied to QB Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall
What is puzzling to me, is that the LBs and secondary were banged up bad, and thus we could expect a Kelce and passing fest from KC. Instead, the healthy DLine, and backup LBs that are good against the run, got destroyed on the ground. The Bills run offense also destroyed KC's defense but they had more stops. I think KC had 7 plays of 20+ yards and the Bills.... ZERO. These dropped passes of course matter but still, that was the difference. Even if the Bills outgained KC on the ground, and had lots of 7-8 yards gainers, they also had 0 yarders, while KC seem to run at will, even at the very end when it was obvious they would. I just can't understand why the Bills run defense was again awful as in the recent past. Is it the schemes or the players? -
I meant overall this season. And KC did punt it. Bills D had to stop the KC O twice thanks to the refs. But they couldn't stop the run or sack Mahomes.
-
It's a tough loss and here am I defending McD and co. Didn't you notice ALL the injuries they had on defense? It's crazy they could perform so well. What was frustrating in THIS game though, is how they couldn't stop the run, just like 2019-2022.
-
That's what they said about Reid for years. Even about Peyton Manning too. in 2021, that 13 seconds cost the Bills a real shot at glory - and THAT was a firable offense. This year, it was just so close. It's obvious thar any of the last 4 remaining teams AND the Bills could win it all, but only 1 of the 5 will. It just sucks so bad, but nope, I can't fault McD here.
-
That's true, and that's also what sucks. They COULD beat any of the remaining four on any given Sunday, yet winning t all is so tough, and damn it, will they ever win one before we croak? They were so close, just like in 2021.
-
The usual crowd. I am gutted, so disappointed. This, like 2021, felt like THE year. But this was a super close game, almost equal everywhere. Reid and co did a great job, so did the McD and his staff. This is not like the Bengals outclassing them last year, nor the awful 13 second idiocy. This just... sucks, but it's a coin toss almost.

NFL Previews on YouTube: Who's the Narrator?
Jerome007 replied to Amarillo Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall
He is pretty good, for sure. The content as well. -
Yes, I get that. But he could still lead by example, by showing intensity, coaching other players with energy, etc. His lack of physical prowess has not erased all the status he's earned as a player and leader. IDK how he is daily, but on gameday he seems mentally off, like he is just checking in to get a paycheck.

Mitch Morse on McAfee - We're begging that ****** to slide
Jerome007 replied to Draconator's topic in The Stadium Wall
Good stuff from Morse. I don't watch McAfee often, mostly bits people select like this one, but he obviously has a knack of making his guests at ease. Even Marshaw Lynch was ha ha. Peyton was on a video call with the show going to HIS HOF coronation! -
What irks me, is that he doesn't seem to play with any intensity. And he was a leader in the past, not just a star player, but a leader that set an example.
-
He almost retired last year. Yet he is still playing at a pro bowl level. The awful end of the season must have helped him decide. It must not have been fun going to work these last weeks!
