0.22 Yards before contact in the running game.
Blank Stare replied to damj's topic in The Stadium Wall
So the opposing defense has to at least account for it a little bit in their scheme? That wasn’t really what I meant by that question. Of course they should run. They have to at least try it. But your coordinator knows the oline is struggling and does nothing to adjust to protect them. Just remains steadfast in his belief in his game plan. That stubbornness is not a great quality. You have to protect your line through different play calling. Been saying this all day in other threads. Eric Wood just said as much on WGR with Bulldog too. -

Then why keep calling runs? -
I thought he had a good preseason. Was bummed to lose him, but I understood it. Glad to see him back on PS.

That’s a tough question to answer without the benefit of all the information he has. I just don’t really see much creativity to counter or mitigate known weaknesses. But, my layman’s opinion would be sprinkling in more max protect when we see how poor the line performs. Why not roll Allen out more looking to throw on some bootlegs to shift the pocket to give him a tick more time or decide to take off. I’d rather do that than the delayed QB draws that are predictable and go nowhere lately. Force the ball to Diggs more. Less horizontal passes or slower developing deep shot plays or WR screens. Less stretch runs that take forever to execute. Get the guys moving up field with YAC opportunities. I think we need to run more crossing routes and short to intermediate routes. If you’re going to split Sweeney out wide, then get him off the field and put Gabe Davis or Isaiah McKenzie in. Hell, even Kumerow. Either are better from a pure talent perspective than Sweeney. I’d say go back to some play action, but that wouldn’t likely have worked much yesterday with how quickly the line was letting guys through. I’ve said it in numerous other threads, but if Brown isn’t back, I’m sitting Ford and playing Bates. I’m also sitting Motor and playing Brieda if Moss is ok. Moss and Motor are too similar from a speed/talent perspective. Need to get more speed on the field. I’d even consider cutting (or finding an IR reason for) Ford and activating Stevenson. Having Stevenson up, may allow them to feel comfortable using McKenzie more on offense (e.g., jet sweeps).

That’s fair. I’m not absolving the players here. They have to execute what’s called. But Daboll knows his weaknesses going into the game. He knows the line and backs are weak. Yet, he doesn’t call plays to hide some of their weaknesses. No Knox, no Brown, no Mongo and he keeps calling the same stuff. He has to be more self aware and call a better game. And, yes, absolutely the team needs to execute better on whatever is called. 100%.

If you have nothing to beat a simple cover 2, then fold up shop. Season is done. Because this is what we’ll get from every team the rest of the way. Even if those defenses don’t have perfect personnel to play it, we’re getting it. Where it’s more on Daboll to me is around game plan. Yes, our RBs suck, and injuries are hurting an already shaky talent level on the oline, but Daboll has to put his players in better positions to succeed. He has to. Adjust and stop being so stubborn, particularly when punched in the mouth. And I refuse to believe he has no plan that will work to attack a basic cover 2. This team is too talented at QB and receiver to have no answers.

I hate to say it … but the Pats are coming

Agreed. Once they “solve” this defense, next they’ll be telling us they struggle against prevent defense. I’m being facetious, but Daboll tends to lack a counterpunch far too often for my liking. Too damn stubborn with his game plan. Sad to say it, but so far this team peaked at the KC win. They built them up in their heads, finally beat them, and thought they could just show up and coast through the rest of the schedule. Saving their best stuff for more worthy opponents will get your ass beat.

Wasn’t happening earlier. Titans still up. But I do love watching him normalize on Vrabel’s watch. -

Here I was actually a bit worried about the Rams (prior to todays embarrassing loss). Titans having their way with them. -

I don’t disagree with what you said about Brieda. I’m not expecting a world beater there. He is weak running through contact. But this offense is in desperate need of a little more pop or speed at that position. Make Moss the lead back and Brieda 3rd down pass catching back. Either that or raid a practice squad for a back. Or shoot, bring up Antonio Williams. Guy ran a respectable 4.52. Which is way better than the 4.6-4.7 Motor and Moss ran. All I know is Motor isn’t the answer. It takes him forever to do anything. And he isn’t making anyone miss anymore which is really the only thing he had going for him. Not only that, he and Moss are too similar in the speed department. Can’t have two guys like that. -

Our RBs are slow as molasses. I said in another thread that we should sit Motor next week and go Brieda and Moss. Get more speed on the field. What can it hurt at this point? Despite the off season hype, Motor is still the same player as last year. -

Love Bob Woods. Miss that dude. Guy plays with toughness and fire. -

Titans getting this kind of production running on a line that includes Bobby Hart starting at LT. Yes, we could use a bump in talent, but it’s coaching folks. Bobby Johnson not getting it done. -

If Moss is ok, I’d like to see Motor sit next week. Despite all the off season talk, he’s still the same guy he was last year. Go with Brieda and Moss. Get more speed on the field. Praying Brown and Knox are back next week. I’d cut Ford and either raid a PS olineman from another team or activate Stevenson. Ford is done here. -

Jeffrey Simmons has turned into a Fletcher Cox clone. Disruptive. -
Williams got paid and shut it down. He’s been really mediocre this year. Mongo was never all that great, but I wouldn’t mind letting Morse go this off-season and having Mongo or Bates take over at center. Mongo has actually looked decent at center. Use the money from Morse to bring in a guard who is worth a damn. Then draft at least 2 OL.

The trade deadline has passed ... So now what ??
Blank Stare replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yeah, fair point. Rams probably aren’t the best example considering they are so unorthodox. Few teams are as aggressive as they are trading picks. However, I think a lot of teams overvalue mid round picks (including the Bills) and a shrewd team can take advantage of that by lifting proven talent for lottery tickets. -

Serious question - When does Beane go for it? All in on a particular season? I thought seeing our weaknesses, he would’ve made a move at the deadline. Like the Rams with Von Miller. Window wide open in a watered down AFC and we stand pat with glaringly obvious flaws. “Be patient”. “Build through the draft”. Great, let’s build through the draft. Hows about hitting on a few of these second round picks? I’d rather trade a 2 or a 3 for a proven commodity if we are just going to draft Cody Ford over far superior players or keep guys like Epenesa and Boogie Basham inactive each week. Especially, after we could’ve drafted oline with that Basham pick. Sometimes I just want to see Beane push some chips into the middle of the table and make a bold move. You already hit on the most important position in Josh. I’m not suggesting he get reckless, but you can take a shot/risk.
