$15M is pushing it.. Even in a completely over exaggerated market Edmunds would get $12M at the most.. Edmunds is the Jadeveon Clowney of linebackers.. Think we can extend him at $10M/yr fairly easily..
-
9 or 10 million is a lot of money for a guy who can’t stay healthy.. I think you only have room for one contract like that at LB.. I think you put that money towards Edmunds at this point.. Edmunds is a better option at OLB than Milano.. For the reasons mentioned in the post you quoted.. More durability, more size, more speed, better blitzer, can play all three LB spots instead of one etc.. I see Edmunds getting about $8M-$9M/yr when he’s extended.. I don’t think you sign both Edmunds and Milano.. Too much money wrapped up in the position to justify signing them both.. Not enough production either.. Our run defense has been average at best.. Milano’s injury history factors into it I’m sure.. but he has never been a big run stuffer anyways.. I think you add a versatile LB in the 2nd or 3rd.. A jack of all trades LB who can both cover and stuff the run.. Good luck identifying the Mike.. or figuring out where the blitz is coming from or who is dropping back in coverage.. Could be a lot violent and aggressive on D..
-
I mean, if he signed a 1 yr $6M deal I’d take him back.. that’s about the going rate for a solid starting LB.. Even then I may take a LB in RD2.. I think when we do add a LB, which I don’t think is a question at this point.. I hope we add someone who can play all three LB spots.. Edmunds and Klein to a lesser degree all have positional flexibility.. If all three of your starting LBs can play all three spots, it causes havoc on offenses when trying to determine the Mike.. Who is blitzing? Who is dropping back? Where is the pressure coming from? All these things factor into tormenting QBs, disguising packages and stopping the run.. We need someone who can play all three spots and then our defense can start to get really creative..

For the rest of the year.. Sure.. But I am completely mortified if we decide to hand out a second contract to Milano unless it’s a cheap 1 year prove it deal.. Some folks say that he’ll get $12M-$14M a year, I don’t think you do that.. I don’t like the idea of paying our LBs that much.. It’s not an important enough position to spend that much money on.. And our LBs have been underperforming.. I like the idea of us switching the MLB roles between Klein and Edmunds.. In running situations Klein plays Mike.. In passing situations and when we’re in the nickel defense Edmunds plays Mike.. Switch it up.. if opposing offenses can’t determine our Mike, it can be really confusing for them.. Ideally I’d like to see us pick up Edmunds 5th year option and we draft another solid LB somewhere in the draft... I think we are getting good value for Klein.. I’ll take that contract all day for who he is and what we’re getting.. $10M for Edmunds in 2022 is also a good gamble for us.. Not crazy money for a LB with his skill set.. Just draft another good player and our cap situation is in pretty good shape..

Let’s consider permanently replacing Milano with Klein.
ghostwriter replied to M. Wrotto's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Klein doesn’t replace Milano, he replaces Edmunds.. Seemed to me that Klein got quite a few snaps at MLB and Edmunds filled in at Milano’s spot.. I thought Klein did a good job.. If he were a step or two faster he’d be an elite player.. Yes, he is slow but he has very good instincts, he’s strong against the run and he’s a very good blitzer.. Klein is only making $6M/yr, which is the entry level price for a starting caliber player.. He is probably our only LB that plays the run well.. Edmunds did see some snaps at Mike as well but Klein got quite a few snaps there also.. So in 3rd & 1 and 4th & 1 situations, Klein is a great piece to have on this defense.. In obvious running situations, especially when our defense has an idea which side the offense is going to run to, you put Klein there.. Change up the Mike and SLB depending on what the offense is going to do.. It comes down to Edmunds vs Milano.. Edmunds is seemingly being pushed into Milano’s role.. Some folks are saying that Milano will make up to $14M/yr in free agency and in my mind you have to let him go if that’s the case.. Edmunds is far more talented, more size, better pass rushing potential, length and athletic ability and durability..Think you let Milano go, you draft another solid LB RDS 2-3 and you audition Edmunds at OLB over the next 5 games.. depending how well he does you either pick up or decline his 5th year option.. I think Edmunds will make about $10M in 2022 if we pick up his 5th year option.. that’s anywhere from $2M to $4M less than Milano’s projected contract.. Milano is also undersized and seems to get hurt a lot.. And with Edmunds size and length, he’s better suited at covering some of the bigger TEs in the league.. Basically if it were me, I’d pick up Edmunds 5th year option, he goes to Milano’s old spot... you keep Klein, he’s serviceable and his contract is dirt cheap and you draft another LB or sign another one in free agency.. Not rocket science.. -
Herbert is going to be great..

This is a hard league to win in....

I expected a W here... but that Herbert kid is going to be a top 5 QB in the NFL right up there with Allen.. we WILL be seeing a lot of these guys over the next 5 to 10 years... And Bosa is a manimal.. they’re more talented then people think.. they have some nice pieces.. And I’d take Lynn back in a heartbeat if he gets fired by San Diego.. GREAT coach! -
Flores: Tua benched, not hurt

I question his arm.. he does have nice touch though.. not as athletic as Murray or Jackson but has solid mobility.. Think it’s pretty obvious at this point that the Dolphins should have taken Herbert.. -

Mitch Morse will start at Center
ghostwriter replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think it had to due with his concussions.. now I’m sure that the fact that our line played so well without him factored into it.. but I believe McDermott and Beane wanted to give Morse way more time than necessary to heal up.. Why? Because they’re going to get rid of him first chance they get this offseason.. If Morse were to get hurt to the point where he couldn’t play football again, Buffalo would be on the hook for millions and millions of dollars.. If Morse is healthy we have an out in his contract this offseason and he can be released without much of a hit at all.. -
Cody Ford out for the Season
ghostwriter replied to PirateHookerMD's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think you’re right to a degree.. I agree to a certain extent.. I see what you’re saying, I really do.. I think 60% of the money should go to offense and say 40% go to the D.. With that said, I’d kill to have one of the Bosa brothers or Myles Garrett on this team or an Aaron Donald or a young n healthy JJ Watt.. that’s where I draw the line.. especially at DE, CB, SS or MLB — I’d spend money for elite players at this position.. Donald is the exception at DT though.. I’d prefer space eaters at that position.. And those guys usually don’t cost much.. Tre Day and Poyer is money well spent though.. But sure.. most of the money should go to O.. -
Cody Ford out for the Season

I’m a firm believer that complete football teams win Super Bowls.. For a team like Buffalo, since we have a dominant defensive oriented staff whom can draft defense very well.. I think you pay more of a premium on offensive talent.. Pay your stars on offense, they’re harder for you to come by.. If McD can find guys like Milano and Levi Wallace and Dane Jackson later in the draft then it makes no sense to overpay players on the defensive side of the ball.. Sure, I can see a few big signings on defense.. Poyer, Tre and perhaps a stud DE if we can find one.. but don’t lock up too much of your assets on that side of the ball.. Keep drafting them and cherry pick the exceptional talents.. -

Cody Ford out for the Season
ghostwriter replied to PirateHookerMD's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In the short term it matters none.. In the long term it matters some.. Ford is just a guy but he has a high ceiling and his contract is cheap.. McD and co are hoping the light’ll turn on for him.. Guess we’ll have to wait till next year.. -

While most of what you said is true.. especially the first paragraph.. I’d argue though that Allen’s ceiling is higher than Mahomes’.. as crazy as that sounds.. I still expect a Championship out of Allen.. He makes throws that not even Rodgers or Mahomes can make.. that same strength though is also a weakness in the sense that he makes ill advised throws because he has too much faith in his arm.. He may wow you one moment and then the next moment you wonder wtf he’s doing.. Allen is very Brett Favre like.. Needs to clean up the turnovers while driving the ball down field.. even if it means we see slightly less production out of his TD total.. with that said we need to see more production out of our running game and defense for that blueprint to work...

The Packers have always been ridiculously good at drafting QBs over the years.. Starr, Favre and Rodgers.. Steelers always seem to do well too.. Ravens obviously with Ozzie Newsome who was fantastic..

2021 Premature Draft- List your top 3 positions of need
ghostwriter replied to MClem06's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well.. you have to figure that Star will be back.. that helps a lot.. but to be honest, I’d like to see another big fat NT to plug in next to him.. People forget that Pat Williams, Sam Adams and Ted Washington did get a fair amount of pass rush.. sometimes 3 or 4 sacks a year... that’s a lot better than what Ed Oliver has done.. DTs that post 10 sacks a year or more are unicorns.. gimme another hog to plug in next to Star and watch our run defense go into the top 5.. Draft a DE RD1 and see if Hughes is willing to take a 50% pay cut.. -

Don’t forget that Star Lotulelei will be back.. that will be a huge boon to our DL.. but of course we could use another hog to plug into that DL.. Dalvin Tomlinson in free agency would be a solid option.. dump Butler, Jefferson, Addison and Hughes.. draft a DE with that 1st pick and we’re cooking.. -
2021 Premature Draft- List your top 3 positions of need
ghostwriter replied to MClem06's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
1. DE - Ideally a talented pass rusher falls into our laps with that first pick.. Someone we can plug into RDE opposite of AJ Epenesa whom I feel will be a talented pass rusher for us.. We’d have Daryl Johnson rotating in but would still be in dire need of depth.. will Jerry Hughes take a pay cut? 2. LB - Ideally you sign Milano to a one year prove it deal.. you decline Edmunds’ 5th year option and the two compete for an extension next year.. Draft a smart cerebral type of MLB who can play chess against some of the top QBs in the NFL.. Someone who can stop the run and get our defenses in the right formations.. 3. C/G - Feliciano can play either guard or center.. I think you dump Morse’s contract.. very expensive and he’s at risk of being permanently injured and out of the NFL.. We can get out of his contract in 2021 and we should do so.. Take the best interior OL prospect available here.. Draft even more depth later on.. (Still need: NT, return man/speed WR, CB, CB, more OL depth) -
I hope he gets brought back.. I feel good about RCB with Levi Wallace and Dane Jackson over there.. I’m not saying we shouldn’t draft a few corners though.. If another Tre White caliber of corner is there at 28 though you take him.. wonder if Levi or Dane could take over for Taron Johnson as the slot corner..
