Why even play Devito. Play another running back and just go full option offense. -

Daboll reliving 13 seconds ............ -
I thought Hamlin played pretty well least year when Hyde was injured. I'm not sure where he's at post injury this year because he hasn't been on the field much. That said to my eye Rapp has been terrible in coverage at times and Lewis is tiny so if we had an actual injury to Hyde or Poyer and Hamlin was still inactive I think that would be pretty telling.

Why is everyone focused on the Offense here?
Maine-iac replied to PatsFanNH's topic in The Stadium Wall
Remember last year vs the Bengals when we had injuries and couldn't stop the run to start the game and then made adjustments and couldn't stop the pass the rest of the game ........... that's us with back up DT's. We have to scheme to stop the run and not the pass and all of a sudden guys are getting open and B list QB's are having good games. We were doing fine against Tua now we are almost losing to Tyrod and Mac Jones is balling out. -
Was re watching the game earlier and as you mentioned this I was picturing cam lewis (#30) whiffing on Douglas on some sort of Jet sweep. I'd call it a broken tackle but Lewis literally got nothing.

Unfortunately it's not just a single player. This game it was Jones and Oliver. The drop off from Jones to Phillips or Oliver to Phillips is significant but he can play beside one or the other and we can still play our defense. Remove both Jones and Oliver and now you are starting Settle or Ford beside Phillips and neither of them have shown an ability to make the necessary plays in our defense. The way NE started out reminded me of Cinci last year. We couldn't stop the run and then once we were chasing our tail we couldn't stop anything. NE is no Cinci so we made a few plays but ultimately with a healthy roster I have no doubt we would have flogged NE.
-
Sure after the first the first two drives where they ran it down our throats and scored twice we adjusted to stop the run. Now ask me why Jones had open guys to throw to might have to do with us having to play the run.
-
If you DT's are not clogging the running lanes then you bring guys in to help stop the run. Then you have less coverage and the QB has throws available to him that he normally wouldn't and your DE's don't get there because the QB isn't holding the ball.
-
Healthy Jones and Oliver I doubt the Pats come our running like they did. Jones is looking at 3rd and longs and the nwe heat him up with just our front 4 and play coverage. Just so much harder to play our defense when we get beat at the LOS so much.
-
Our DE's look much better when there is a DT attacking the middle and chasing the QB to them. Can't get Oliver back fast enough.
-
It's amazing how good a QB looks when you come out running the ball down the other teams throat.
-
I was at the game and it seemed like Josh missed a number of throws. Watching the game now at home on DVR. Some harder than others but Josh missed a few throws we've seen him make before. The Pats came out running the ball down our throats. Not really surprising given our injuries but I have to wonder if they didn't try to coach around our inability to stop the run and in turn got Mac Jones going. Totally reminded me of Cinci last year. Can't stop the run and as a consequence makes the pass that much harder to defend. Not sure averaging 9 penalties a game (the last 3 games) is helping either.

Simms: Gabe Davis is a good player, but he's not a number two
Maine-iac replied to SydneyBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think they are on the right track with 12 personnel and more running game. I'm optimistic that Kincaid will look like a great pick by the end of the year and between the running game and finding the TE's and RB's more short we'll be moving the chains better. I think they are find with Davis doing what he does and they can easily get the production they need from other places. They're still learning how to do that. They have to walk before they can run but I think they'll get there. -

Maybe we should have brought in Julio Jones ............. hell bring back Anquan Boldin that worked out pretty well. What we shouldn't be focused on are the positions that are not producing at all like slot or TE. -

I mean just because Davis has more catches and TD's than Hopkins is no reason to think Hopkins might not have been much of an upgrade. -

Name me the majority of the teams. I can think of 3 teams that might have a better number 2 than Davis. I can think of one team that did win a SB that doesn't have a single WR that is better than Davis. -

I'm with them. Like I've already said, I don't think we have a Davis at #2 problem. We have a "don't use our other weapons" problem. Beyond the TE position I've also wondered why our screen game is for the most part horrendous. At least our run game is improved. Now if they'd just lean on it a little more. -

So why aren't people crying about the TE's? -

6, 8, or 10 years ago ................. Pats from 2014 to 2016 had one WR over 1,000 yards and won 2 SB's. Brady was king of the short passing game and knew how to use TE's and RB's in the passing game. Chiefs didn't have a WR with over 1,000 yards last year ......... won the SB. It isn't on Davis that this offense sputters sometimes.
