Percy Harvin ruined me on speedy, veteran WR's, who have potential. I hope you are right.
-
I didn't find the choice perplexing at all. The 1st read was a TD and it was there. Blocking didn't hold up. No denying Diggs was open hot but the play was drawn up to score and the throw was there.
-
Didn't say it was a given but I don't think it's above reasonable expectations to think he could produce similarly but over 17 games. I dare say it's projecting in a vacuum to say he couldn't do it.
-
Considering "last years WR 3" was our best receiver over the last 10 games I'd say we're half way there.
-
I absolutely agree but when you don't have anyone who's good at slamming up in there for 3 yards and you drop to 5 and 5 in the middle of the season the gloves come off. Pretty sure neither Dorsey or Brady were drawing up game plans where Josh was running 3rd and short 10 plus times but you have to do what you have to do. What I'm getting at is the team saying they don't want Allen running is different than having a big back and actually being able to do something other than run Allen. I haven't seen them run short yardage well with anyone other than Allen. Singletary on 3rd down against Miami running out the clock is etched in my memory and that's about it. Would love to see it happen.

I don't know Davis well enough. In short yardage Allen might be one of the best. That said there is a certain amount of abuse he takes doing it. If Davis is that good at short yardage he'd certainly be able to carve out a role. Pretty sure that's what Murray and Harris were supposed to do last season.

Would you deal? Treylon Burks for Kaiir Elam
Maine-iac replied to Kaenon's topic in The Stadium Wall
I might be wrong but he got benched for not coming up and tackling in the Giants game. He looked like a more motivated run stopper when he got back in there vs the Steelers. He was taking his lumps covering Ridley. Still plenty of potential there. He seems to come up with splash plays with some frequency. -
Stalky is great but 215 doesn't move guys on the goal line like 230 does. Singletary ran over people very well for his size and even scored a few TD's on the goal line when they gave him a chance. That said there's a reason that Josh runs so much in short yardage and that's because 240 pounds moves guys.

Already addressed that. I agree with you. As far as playing QB at a high level the Chiefs game might have been one of his best at taking the profit and keeping the offense on the field.
-
Unlike Edwards running the no huddle we've seen Brady's offense succeed and do it for the most part without much contribution from Diggs. So the hope that someone can replace that "production" is at least somewhat warranted. Leading up to the Broncos loss Allen had rushed 7, 7, and 8 times in the previous 3 games. We had already started selling out to win games and the pressure was already on for Allen to run before Brady took over. This was happening with Diggs on the roster. The difference maker we lack is a short yardage back. A lot of Allen's runs he's virtually untouched or sneaks out of the pocket and only faces a defender or two down the field. The repeated use in short yardage where he's taking big hits both on 3rd and 4th downs but also goal line is something I'd like to see get taken over by someone else.

Not Shakir related but looking at the roster just realized that Claypool is huge. He is literally as big as Kincaid. We have a lot of 6' 4" WR's but 238 lbs is a big guy on the outside.
-
As good a group of pass catchers as we had this January (maybe better) and we were a few defensive injuries and a struggling kicker away from beating the Chiefs. A team that speads the ball around is harder to stop. I'm with you on protecting Allen a little bit. I would like to see a decent short yardage back (someone over 220lbs) with some vision to make goal line less about Josh smashing it in.
-
I think Shakir might be the hardest receiver to stop in terms of game plan against us. He can play outside or slot so it's harder to just line up and jam him or put your best corner on him. If you are giving him that much attention that's where Kincaid and the other pass catchers have to win. I'm hoping he'll be Beasley with wheels. I'm also hoping they continue to run the ball like they did last year.

I apologize if I'm reposting stuff. Saw this and thought it was interesting. The guy isn't a Coleman fan and it's only mini camp but I like the video thought I'd share.

2015 Carolina Panthers: Have we ever been as good?
Maine-iac replied to Mikie2times's topic in The Stadium Wall
Haven't read through all 7 pages but if the theme is building a team like (or better than) the Panthers 2015 SB team then the last year has us closer than ever. That 2015 teams passing game ran through the TE which is where we seem to be headed. The Panthers were also a defensive driven team which is where luck/fate whatever you want to call it comes into play. I don't vividly remember injury situations from the 2015 Panthers but I don't think half their team was out for their SB run they had. No matter what team we build if half of them are on the bench or IR nursing injuries in Jan and Feb it's going to make things much harder. I'm not sure going down the roster tit for tat tells the real story of why we have or haven't advanced to a SB. -
Bring back George Wilson ............. he could play safety or wide receiver. Joking aside I'd love to have a young Gilmore and Dareus on defense. Gilmore was the picture of a shutdown corner for several seasons. Not so much under Rex. Dareus was great in the 4-3 with Schwartz and we saw a noticeable difference when the traded him away before we made the playoffs. I might be overly optimistic that Miller will show some return to form otherwise Schobel might get the nod over 1 of those picks.

Top 5 QB and Top 5 WR salary cannot coexist on a SB team
Maine-iac replied to Big Blitz's topic in The Stadium Wall
All had a few good seasons for the Bills. None of them led the team in receiving before 2019. I'll be honest I don't remember Lewis? So I went back and looked some of it up. Bill Brooks led the team in 95. So other than one season from Owens and Brooks you can go back to Frank Lewis (found the Lewis you must have referenced) before you find a WR who wasn't drafted by Buffalo and led the team in receiving. -

Maine-iac replied to Big Blitz's topic in The Stadium Wall
Before 2019 is there a receiver other than Owens who led Buffalo in receiving that wasn't drafted by Buffalo? I'm too lazy to look it all up but I can't think of one. Mind you I only remember back to Reed and Burkett in the late 80's. -

Maine-iac replied to Big Blitz's topic in The Stadium Wall
That's why you get a top 5 QB with a top 5 TE and mix and match veterans and draft picks at WR with team friendly contracts. NE and then the Chiefs working that game. Possibly throw in TB with Gronk and Brady to further that argument. Just realized Eagles leading reciever was Ertz when they beat the Pats in 17. -
Bills sign Chase Claypool, Smoot, Jones
Maine-iac replied to Dablitzkrieg's topic in The Stadium Wall
I have to believe with Brady that Kincaid and Cook are going to be the focus passing and running. Coleman fits a ball control passing game. Claypool can play the Gabe Davis field stretcher part if he has his head right. It's possible the loss of Big Ben and the arrival of Pickens cemented his demise in Pittsburg. Not many WR's leave Chicago better than they arrived. I'd have to hope he has more upside than Sherfield. -

Everything I didn't like about Claypool was between his ears. He has his head right he definitely is someone defenses have to pay attention to. -
Just rewatched the Cover1 report on Diggs getting traded and this segment here says a lot about how and why we ended up with Coleman. It might be part of a Brady makeover to have a big wideout who lends himself to RPO's and bubble screens. Definitely worth a listen.

Just make him watch AJ Brown and Deebo tape all day.

If the defense would show up but that's another can of worms ..................

Those damn routes Mike Evans runs where he cuts in then up the field and back out (can't remember what they call them). A big WR with good hands and a good first 10 yards can probably make money on that.
