How long will you give our new QB?
Maine-iac replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
A lot of this depends on the offense. If we draft a QB and Daboll has them throwing for 250 or 300 yards a game and we are scoring 21 plus points but he throws a few picks type of deal I will feel like we can get it together. If Daboll is super conservative and we push a rookie QB out there and he's throwing about as many times as Tyrod did but throwing more picks (because he's a rookie) and we are scoring 18 points a game and generally looking non competitive again I'm not going to blame the QB. At the very least I'm not going to start with the QB. Get an OC who knows how to run a competitive NFL offense. We have just as much riding on our pick at OC as we do any pick at QB. -
Will the 2018 Bills be better then the 2017 Bills???
Maine-iac replied to Scorp83's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You got me. Clearly I have failed to recognize the dynasty here. So new CB, LB's, DT on defense and then a whole new offense and outside of McCoy and KB an almost completely new set of players starting but other than that I suppose you're right. -

I can only hope that the board can forgive my carelessness. -

If I had your confidence ......... Not even being sarcastic. I've been doing this too long and feeling like they are losing the offseason like they lose the regular season is not fun. Wrong or right if I just felt like everything was great it would be nice. So sick of losing and then also feeling like they are going in the wrong direction. I'm all for drafting a QB but they've been outmanuevered as far as draft position and now we have little offensive line and no pass catchers. That's before we introduce a professional coach who's career point scoring average a little over 2 field goals. It's just too much. I need to step away. Come back for the preseason and hope the coaches and GM have made some fixes. -
Why is Kaelin Clay back on the roster?
Maine-iac replied to Foreigner's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
...... because they couldn't throw Thompson a bone. I'll be surprised if Clay is on the roster for more than a couple games let alone all 16. -

To double down on this the fact is even if we are running the ball at all and McCoy is healthy they only really have to cover KB because there is no one else except for the handful of games that our TE's show up. If we don't get a lead we are not going to throw for wins. Even if we somehow pull off moving up and getting a "franchise" QB, and god forbid we miss on that pick, the line is desimated and our OC has done nothing in the NFL to show he's capable other than be really really like-able for what that's worth. That's just the offense. On defense we lost the guy who while not spectacular was the QB of the front 7 and Preston Brown can be replaced but as of now hasn't been. Again it's much like the Talyor situation. Could we arguably do better? Sure. Will we? There's a good chance we don't. No telling if Star is any better than Dareous and if the D is any better. Sure the secondary should be alright. They were all right last year but that doesn't mean much when teams are running for 200 yards and mulitiple TD's on you every week. The whole "plan/process" seemed legit until the Jets beat us to the punch trading up into the top 5. Now without trading the farm we are not in the hunt for one of the top 4 QB's of which I only like about 2. I believe in two things. Talent and coaching. If you have those two things the law of averages will usually work itself in your favor. We have coaching on the defense but we currently lost a considerable amount of talent and it's arguable that Dareous was one move too many last year. On offense we've been on an absolute skid for 3 straight seasons. They have been hemorrhaging talent on offense. Double that with the losses of Roman and Lynn, say what you want they could do better than Dennison and most likely will leave Badoll in the dust also. So this is really only my first or second post in months. I don't want to B word. So I'll lurk and wait and hope that they pull out some magic and make everything roses but for now in my mind a couple offseasons ago we were a decent DC away from being a good team and now we are doing the same old switch a roo that we do every 4 to 5 years. -
Literally the most entertaining thread I've read in months.

Sal C’s “Dear Browns fans....” about Tyrod Taylor
Maine-iac replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This whole thing seems like a bad joke. A team that's won 1 game in 2 seasons gets a QB with a winning record that took his team to the playoffs for the first time in 17 years and we are going to tell them to hate that. He's been a decent game manager with scrub receivers and will now be throwing to Gordon and Landry. At the end of the day the Browns can try to get a "franchise QB" and still have a competent game manager if their draft pick fails or needs a year. They have pass catchers in place and a good 0C to help Taylor and bring a rookie along. Currently we have a questionable 0C, no QB worth trotting on the field, and will have to bring in players who have never been here before so at best we can only hope they pan out. I don't think we are currently in any position to be looking down our noses at anyone. -
Hey I liked Taylor but they turned a 6th round FA into a 3rd round pick. They need to get someone in here now. I wouldn't mind Foles.

Would you rather have a manager like Rex or Marrone?
Maine-iac replied to Another Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Marrone reminds me a lot of Caughlin and Rex reminds me of Glanville if people remember him. I think Marrone will be more consistent and probably over his career successful. Rex had his flash of stardom. He's lucky he had the co-ordinators he did and the talent. Either people caught up to his defense or he isn't that good of a coach but his run of success slid off the rails and I'm of the idea you'll never see it again. -
What The Heck Happened With Karlos Williams?
Maine-iac replied to BuffaloRush's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think Williams tied a record for consecutive games with a TD. Gillislee took that role over the end of that season and the next. A tackle breaking one cut runner is such a great change up with Shady. -
The Top 5 Buffalo Bills Fullbacks Of The Past 30 Years
Maine-iac replied to BuffaloRush's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Tell me the last FB we had that ran for 120 yards. Kennebrew was a monster. He didn't have moves he just ran people over. I'm not sure if you are just looking up stats and regurgitating but for anyone who was alive and watching he wasn't week in and week out like Thurman and Davis but he was a beast and was fun to watch. -
The Top 5 Buffalo Bills Fullbacks Of The Past 30 Years
Maine-iac replied to BuffaloRush's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Mueller was a pretty damn good FB. I don't know I'd add him to the list of best FB's but Larry Kennebrew destroyed some team we played back in the day in a game that's stuck in my mind ever since. -
5 Bold Predictions For The Bills Offseason
Maine-iac replied to corta765's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I might be understanding this wrong but the numbers look like there is no way we'd cut Clay. He's a good starter and from this site it looks like we'd take a huge dead cap hit. http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/buffalo-bills/charles-clay-7893/ -
Buffalo no longer WR purgatory once TT moves on
Maine-iac replied to dezertbill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well I clearly remember two seasons where we just needed a better defense and lo and behold we get a better defense and playoffs .......... go figure. That's even with letting every single starting caliber receiver leave and the replacements all being injured. I've heard rumors of Cousins and even Luck on here and if you can get an upgrade who wouldn't want that? People forget though, we could do a lot worse. -

The real reason the PATS will win - -
Maine-iac replied to Punt75's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Everyone talks on and on about Brady but the Pats win SB's when their defense is holding other teams off the scoreboard and there they are again in the top 5 in defensive ppg. That is why they will win another SB. Pats are holding teams to 18.5 per game. I bet Pats win 28-21 and that's giving Pederson some credit believe it or not. -
THE ROCKPILE REVIEW - The GM's QB Decision Tree
Maine-iac replied to Shaw66's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think without Shurmur the Vikings and the success they've had with QB's there might not be a story. It's very possible that the selection of Daboll will be as pivotal to the QB position and McDermott's future as any decision they make on QB's. There is a bar. A fairly low bar set with Taylor who everyone thinks is an awful QB. The hope is that we get a QB and everything is fixed. It will be interesting to see if this QB march paired with the what seems to be a fairly risk averse run first coaching staff is going to come out and wildly hurdle that low bar and create a passing attack that outscores a Tom Brady led Patriots team. -
Interesting take on the QB movement. It will be an interesting offseason. I don't like the idea of 3 first round picks for anyone.
-
I don't agree . There could be some reasons for and against but am done explaining. You've got your opinion. I have mine. Did they pay him last year? Same argument people had last year. Look I don't care if they do move on. Just bring in someone better. This is the part where all the trolls jump in and say easy, but it's not.
-
I'm saying any team is always trying to get better. Trying to bring in good QBs. The Packers had Favre and drafted Rogers. Niners had Smith and took Kaerpernick. I'm saying we try to get better. That doesn't mean we have to keep Taylor or get rid of him. You play who you feel is the best player you can put out there on the field. I am saying that, again in my opinion, the coaching staff here is not adept or proficient enough in the passing offense to either know which QB needs to be out there or create a top 15 passing attack. If you have your heart set on throwing the ball all over the place next year you may be disappointed. If they signed Cousins it might make everything easier dumping Taylor. Drafting a QB in the first round though, all bets are off.
-
I'd draft a QB .......... would have done it earlier last year. I'd sign Cousins if he'd sign here and the money worked. I am all for improving the QB position. I definately think we could do a lot worse than Taylor. I don't think the coaching staff here will know, in the case of a rookie, wether they have a better QB than Taylor or not. I don't think they will produce the passing game that every one here so desperately craves. I am not advocating keeping Taylor except to say I don't think the coaches are QB experts and I'm not sure anyone is going to get what they want.
