Remember how nice a change of pace Karlos Williams was his rookie year? Dillon would be a nice addition on day two. It also wouldn't hurt (no offense to Singletary) to have a back who can pass block when you need a blitz pick up.

Tyrod Taylor Could Be Chargers New Starting QB
Maine-iac replied to ChevyVanMiller's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He had a better record than Mayfield and lets face it that tie was on the kicker/OL. Mayfield throws for more yardage and god knows everybody just LOVES 300 yard games. Mahomes might be the only QB that doesn't need a defense. The rest of the league needs a QB that plays decent turnover free football and a defense that doesn''t suck. For years we gave Taylor a defense that sucked and asked him to take lemons and make lemonade. Not saying he's any teams next "franchise" QB and the guy for the next 5 years but he's a decent QB that could start on a lot of teams. -
Baltimore's pass catchers (outside of Brown's circus catch) have been dropping a bunch.
-
As good as some of those catches were it's entirely possible to fault the recievers and all their drops and tips leading to interceptions for helping the Titans have the ball as much as they have.

Divisional Round: Vikings @ 49ers
Maine-iac replied to EmotionallyUnstable's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's how you put down a third and long. No running to the sticks there. -
Jordan Howard or Brieda might be guys with something to prove that don't need a huge contract but could carry the ball enough to keep Singletary healthy. If Ty Montgomery ends up looking for a job he's an interesting prospect also.

John Brown failure to toe drag
Maine-iac replied to Lieutenant Aldo Raine's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The number 1 receiver argument is almost as good as the "franchise" QB argument. Speaking of which when are we going to dust that off again? Make more plays than the other team and win games. Just because Brown doesn't out muscle guys like Hopkins doesn't mean he isn't a play maker. Give him that ball 10 times and he'll catch it and get his feet in 9 times out of ten. Give this defense a 3rd and 18 and they'll stop them 9 times out of ten. Put Milano and a DB in the backfield and we should have the sack 9 times out of 10. There were too many plays that were made most of the year that weren't made Saturday. Brown will be back making plays next year and probably put up even bigger numbers next year ......... whatever you want to call him. -
John Brown failure to toe drag

8 or those top 10 were not even in the playoffs. I guess the Saints with Brees and Thomas scored one more point than us and that's something. -

We don't NEED better receivers per se any more than we need a better QB. What we need are a few less mistakes per game and we got that most of the season and then in the playoff game we had more mistakes than usual (offense and defense) and it bit us in the a#@. We need Allen and the WR's to be a little more surgical and hopefully that is just a matter of time. We need the OL and RB's to get better at blocking things up and Allen at recognizing pressure pre snap. There is no reason to think that the exact same unit we fielded this year couldn't put up more points next year just by Allen having another years experience. -
Daboll Brutal Down the Stretch
Maine-iac replied to billsfan_34's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Buffalo emerged as a defensive team in the seasons before that. We started winning as a defensive team. Then Thurman emerged (88 or 89) and then Lofton and Beebe came along. We started winning as a defensive team and were still a very good defensive team. The offense was the icing on the cake and certainly a large part of going from playoff contender to SB team but that said argue all you want, we started as a defensive team. -
Josh Allen - PLAYOFF GAME report card

Probably most of those are losses also. First time in the playoffs I'm not down on Allen or his play in general but we could have won. https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2019/01/09/nfl-qbs-making-their-first-playoff-starts-have-mostly-stumbled-will-patrick-mahomes/?arc404=true -
NFC Playoff Games: Seattle at Philly, 4:20 EST
Maine-iac replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Jennings TD that wins it for the Giants started with Bradham missing a tackle at the LOS. PS I thought about all the Tyrod haters as I watched this video and realized what I already knew and that is he wasn't that bad. When Rex was here Billsy was a weekly thing. Won't let me embed the video (thanks NFL) but just one of the many painful self inflicted losses we had during those years. https://youtu.be/mZjmEE1RQjU -

Peters just olay'd some DL for the Seahawks. Always thought that for all the physical talent that guy took plays off and I wasn't sad to see him go. -
Daboll Brutal Down the Stretch
Maine-iac replied to billsfan_34's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Can't agree with this. The 4 SB teams rose from Smerlas, Smith, Bennett, Conlan, Kelso, Odomes ect ect. In the SB years the offense came around and gets the credit for those SB's but it started with defense. We are starting with defense and i certainly can't argue that we should stand pat with the offense but I have always and will always say play good defense and find a way to score points. Having a top 10 offense certainly wouldn't hurt my feelings but I'd settle for scoring 23 or 24 ppg which shouldn't be unthinkable next year. -
Smith and Gore are "reliable". There are a number of plays where no one was blocked. I want to know who's causing that. Is Allen not responsible for spotting that? If not Allen then who on the OL is not spotting that? Why are people running completely unblocked into the backfield as much as they are. The number of plays (running and passing) that blockers completely fail to block anyone is alarming. Granted outside of Morse and Dawkins I'm not sure we have an OL player I'd pencil in as the starter for next season right now. I'm no OL coach but many had Ford projecting as a guard and he was fairly well regarded when drafted but I'm going to say I sure hope we draft a tackle early next year. People are going to break it down with stats both on offense and defense. Truth is we could have won. One or two plays on offense or defense and we could have won. That is what the Pats had (I love saying it in past tense). The killer instinct to take the victory. If you didn't absolutely put your foot on their throat they'd find a way to win. It was there, we just didn't take it.

Daboll Brutal Down the Stretch
Maine-iac replied to billsfan_34's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
First off it is true that Allen is young but he has almost 30 starts and two seasons of NFL experience. The mistakes he's making aren't even rookie mistakes. They are just bad football plays. He has undeniable talent and has had us in position to win every single game this year including this one. Daboll is much the same. I'm not sure how many awful plays he called because frankly the execution of some of the plays is so bad I can't blame Daboll for the outcome but being the coach I'll still give him some of the blame. Regardless just like Allen, and his flaws, Daboll called enough good plays to win this game. Points were left on the field and turnovers helped the other team and only a sliver of that is on Daboll. -
Gore : 8 carries for 22 yards
Maine-iac replied to Returntoglory's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If you watch some of Singletary's blocking you will see why Gore was in the game from time to time. I didn't watch every down but there were at least two twists the Texans ran and Singletary missed his guy. Although if he's running it more I suppose pass blocking is a non issue. -
McDermott: Josh Allen 'tried to do too much' in loss
Maine-iac replied to wppete's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Maybe it's putting too much on the defense but that's seemingly the build right now. Defense keeps the score nice and low and Allen pulls it out. The defense didn't get the stops on plays where they seemingly had stops and Allen and the offense "made plays" to get into scoring position but then took sacks and penalties that took them out. They just didn't finish. -
Post Playoff Game - Is Josh Allen the Bills Franchise QB?
Maine-iac replied to Bakin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Allen showed he can learn after the first Pats game. He will get better from this, it's just a shame he had to have so much to learn from in this one game. -
Josh Allen - PLAYOFF GAME report card
Maine-iac replied to rayray808's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Forget the running this guy or that guy or pass this or screen that ........... if we could just stop with the huge negative plays in scoring position we'd probably score another 3 or 4 points per game and I'm not even sure I'm exaggerating. -

No I agree the defense had a hand in this loss. I mean really Hauschka might be the only one who shouldn't be hanging his head after this one. -
Josh Allen - PLAYOFF GAME report card
Maine-iac replied to rayray808's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't have a problem with the scheme or even the play calling. The execution is horrid. If you want to blame Daboll for that I can see that a little but there are plays where you just know either Allen or the OL were beat before they even snapped the ball. If it's true that Daboll isn't coaching that then OK but for me it's not the play calling.
