This bothers me more than signing Phillips. Klein was the whipping boy beforer Elam and he's not any younger or faster or better at covering anyone. Hopefully Dorian is even better is pass defense this year and Klein doesn't see the field.
-
If we beat KC last year there's two plays everyone would have remembered. Cooks goal line carry and Phillips blowing up the KC line for the big sack at the goal line and then pressuring Mahommes again 2 plays later.

Weird Pro Football Reference says we had a 70 QB rating throwing at White in last years playoff game. We were 2 for 3 for a whopping 9 yards. White gave up 200 yards on the season and 150 of it was with the Rams when he shouldn't have been starting because he was coming back from injury. I don't think White is the old Tre but I think getting our stories straight is a good start to figuring out what he can do now.

Walker is literally a 21 year old version of 32 year old Jordan Phillips. Maybe they just want Phillips to give him a jump start to playing as a big man that's not a 1 tech in the NFL. I'm certainly not going to crap on Phillips because he loves playing here. It's not his job to decide who's fit to be on the 53 man roster. He probably has as much to offer as anyone else after Oliver, Sanders, Jones, and Walker. Maybe they are going to trade Jones? Who knows.

Why Landon Jackson is the next MONSTER in the NFL
Maine-iac replied to MJS's topic in The Stadium Wall
Our coaching staff loves a high motor edge edge setter/pocket collapser. As much as our staff wants pass rushers they draft run stopping DE's and pass rushing DTs. Solomon being the outlier who probably has the most upside as a pure pass rusher. -
He did have a sack in his last game.

Good Night / Bad Night - Pre-season game 3
Maine-iac replied to GunnerBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
Considering how late they were signed I thought Alexander and Hollis Jr showed something. I can't say Dane didn't tackle well but he certainly isn't confidence inspiring watching it. He looks like he'll be on the injured list by week two. I can't say I'm not a little partial to Alexander, I thought we should have drafted him over Strong in the first place. -
Random ........... Justin Shorter just caught a pass for the Raiders.

Why did Buechele start and play the entire game?
Maine-iac replied to DeepPass's topic in The Stadium Wall
My guess is Trubisky is our back up and don't want him hurt and White is gone and we don't want him hurt. Beuchele is probably PS(?). -
I think he started outside with Dane and moved inside to nickel late on when the various guys they've signed came in (Alexander and Hollins Jr). He gave up a couple passes early and one of the TD's he was falling on his face as the guy caught it and got his feet in. I'm speaking to what I think I saw but this certainly isn't an all22 review or anything. The first couple of games I was getting numbers mixed up on guys and confusing the hell out of things. Hint the numbers under the roster link on ESPN do not match the numbers guys are wearing on the field.

I guess they've been trying it out this preseason. Didn't make much sense to me either.
-
I wouldn't have mentioned Hardy either but he was playing outside today or at the very least he started the game playing outside. I already mentioned in another post that I didn't know what he was doing out there.
-
Dane also looks like he's about two Henry carries away from being sidelined with his own injuries.
-
33 Alexander saw a decent amount of time. Gave up a big pass but was in coverage on several 3rd downs where we stopped them and forced the fumble that Ciarlo recovered. Not sure what the future holds for him Hollis Jr or Strong but I like that we have some young guys and honestly I didn't see anything from Dane that made me think he beats them all out. They probably just "trust" Dane more but honestly he's done nothing in the preseason worth puting on a resume.

I'll check the couch cushions and get back to you

I need a proof reader to check my posts before I hit enter.

I'd put Alexander, Strong, or Hollis Jr on the field and live with the growing pains before I'd start Dane or Hardy. I'd put Codrington the wouldn't roster group but being the KR give him some wiggle room.

Walker was in the backfield all night. Coverage was tighter and tackling was pretty good. Shavers made a circus TD catch.

Jordan and Poyer are both yes. They played CB before becoming safeties. Everyone else since are a hard nope. That's why I was so happy to see Hancock get a look at safety. He's at least played nickel and safety. I can't think of any DB's we have that are "good" at man coverage. Benford and that's it. Hairston and Hancock should help us be better in man situations and I think White can hold down the CB2 spot but if we go man we're asking for match up problems. Strong was drafted as a longer CB with press man skills but I haven't seen anything that makes me think he's going to pull a Benford and be starting as a rookie.
-
He can't be slower than Rapp and Rapp is our best safety.
-
Ciarlo drops 10 pounds play him at safety or nickel.
-
welp ......learning experience.

Honestly he was ranked higher on many draft boards than Strong and was considered a better zone defender than Strong who was considered more of a press man corner. All that said Strong was a sixth round pick so take all that for what it's worth. Alexander had a bit of injury history.
