6 takeaways from the Bills' decision to trade Zay Jones
Maine-iac replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I still wouldn't be surprised to see Zay turn out to be a good receiver. We are a defense driven team. We play in a lot of low scoring closely contested games. A wide receiver who can't make make a big catch unless the ball is thrown at him 10 times a game is going to have some rough weeks here. The Raiders secondary is trash and Carr is most likely going to be throwing all day in come from behind games. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Zay get on track if he gets the ball thrown at him 5 or 6 times a game for the rest of the season. He always had all the physical tools but for some reason he just couldn't put it together and most importantly he flat out dropped the ball too much. -
We need Josh Allen to be Tyrod Taylor for 3 quarters
Maine-iac replied to Strethor's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would say good point except Josh's QBR for the season is under 40 and you clearly don't understand how QBR works if you are trying to say he got a higher score during a game with a lead. QBR is win probability weighted by each play. In other words you are making stuff up. QBR explained -

I never have and never will understand the hate for Taylor. The guy played well for us here. A nobody free agent took a team with a horrible OC and no WR's and a part time TE to the playoffs for the first time in 20 years. Run out of town in the off season. Has nothing to do with Allen. I think Allen is great and will continue to be great. He throws that second pick 5 yards farther it's a TD and we possibly win the Pats game. I am not looking for or in any way advocating I wish we still had Taylor but I just don't get the hate. -
THE ROCKPILE REVIEW - An Emotional Loss
Maine-iac replied to Shaw66's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I've wavered back and forth on my feelings with Josh and the amount of turnovers. In some respects I feel like he is going to cost us in important games and the Pats game was a fairly clear sign. That said the guy is just dangerous to the opposing teams. Like an 8 year old waiving a gun in a crowded room dangerous. Everyone is on high alert. You feel like a big play could happen any time. On a bad day the Pats game is what you get but even with that, as bad as it was, you have to feel like if he gets his head wrapped around everything and settles down it will be a dangerous that only the opposing team and fans are afraid of instead of everyone in the stadium. That one pass makes it to Zay (the one that was intercepted) and there's a good chance it's a TD and we win. Winning is the great eraser. As bad as he played, for the most part, he throws that one TD and he's still a savior. -
An observation on Josh Allen's three picks
Maine-iac replied to Simon's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm not entirely sure there weren't short passes there to be had. On several plays I've watched replays of there are short throws Allen is passing up to look deep and then either misses deep or holds the ball too long. -

The LB covering the RB fell down on the second pick. If Allen was looking short instead of deep he could have hit the RB for a big gain. -
A Few Thoughts About the *Pats game, in no particular order

You could argue that the first two picks on Josh weren't even that bad a decision (can't believe I'm doing this). Even with the coverage if Josh throws the first one 5 yards farther Brown was behind Gilmore. He was covered but he was behind Gilmore. Same thing with Zay if the pass was 5 yards further it's possibly a catch. So I'm on board with don't lose the gunslinger mentality. That said if you are going to be a gunslinger who is off by 5 yards on all your deep passes it's going to be a long day. -

In keeping with this i will say if he actually gets that second interception to Zay it might have very well been a TD and there is the game we win. All that said you don't make mistakes and beat the Pats. So the current Josh Allen is going to have to learn if we want to go from good to serious contenders -

For the love of God. Yes their helmets hit. Josh was going down head first. Never said they didn't hit. But the defender did not lead with his helmet. His head was not down and he wasn't using the helmet as a weapon. Yes he was going to blow Josh up. Yes they hit helmets because as Just got tackled from behind and went down he went into the guy head first. If he was upright he would have taken a huge hit in the chest. He got it in the head instead. You get a penalty for that. I'm not disagreeing that it happened. What I will say, and anyone who is actually objectively looking at the video should see, is that the defender didn't lead with the crown of the helmet. -

Defender led with the shoulder. The helmet to helmet was Allens head into the defenders ear hole. Watched both angles. Allen was going to get blown up as a runner either way. Defender was going to light him up. -

Looks like the Pats player took it in the ear hole as much as Allen took the shoulder in the head. -
Will offense operate better with Barkley next week?
Maine-iac replied to GG's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
LOL ........... sure Allen won all 3 games by himself. He's also had some great come from behind wins ........ because his turnovers put us behind. Pats were the wake up call. We could have easily lost in the Jets game and Bengals game for no other reason than Allen turns it over too much. -

Against Tennessee? Unless Henry gets rolling there is no reason to think we'll need a bunch of points to win. I don't think anyone thinks Barkley is the answer. Allen needs to get his head right though. He's hurting his team. -

Look I'm on board with the Allen will learn from his mistakes cliche but he did it last year. He did it in preseason and let's face it we could have lost the Jet's, Bengals, and Pat's games all because he keeps doing it. We are lucky to be 3 and 1 right now. It is both a good and bad problem that we could be much better because we SHOULD be much better. Allen needs to learn from todays game just like he needed to learn from last year, this preseason, the Jets, and the Bengals. My question is when is he going to learn? I'm not done with him. I hope he's back next week. Let's home he puts this turnover problem to bed, for good. -

Allen's physical talent is being completely overshadowed by his horrible decision. Allen definitely has much more physical talent but when he's making 4 or 5 bad plays a game that you've been coached not to make your whole football career it's not hard for a journeyman back up to look like a better game manager. Allen is doing more to make himself look bad than Barkley will do to make to make himself look good. -

Funny thing is as much as I hated the interceptions I don't mind the mindset or throw. Just miss long and don't get picked. The sacks on 3rd down and in field goal range drive me nuts. This is QB 101 type stuff. -

I thought the offense "moved" the ball fine on the Pats. As well as expected maybe better. Certainly running the ball we moved it better than expected. We could have scored several times and didn't. What we can't do moving the ball or not is turn it over, throw interceptions, fumble the ball. Some plays you are going to get beat or guys aren't open. Get rid of the ball and play another down. -

Is Foster out? Imagine if we had two speed guys on the outside and both could catch better than Jones. I've seen enough of Jones to ever believe he's going to come around and put together whole seasons of good football. -
If Allen out, who backs up Barkley?

Bring back Tyree Jackson!! JK ........ definitely do not do that. -

If an O lineman sticks his leg out it's a trip no doubt. That close to the line of scrimmage why is it not tripping for a TE? Even without contact it was clear he stuck his leg out to trip him. -

I'm actually of the idea that if we hadn't made the mistakes and kept the game closer Gore could have had a big day and celebrated 15K and a win. He quietly had 100 yards as it was.
