Wow. Literally less than a year...amazing the impatience of fans these days. THIS regime has had less than....one....year. If you understand that all of the moves have been for the future, than it all makes sense. It's called a rebuild man...it'll take some time to get rid of the inherited players that don't fit
-
Kiser is too slow imo. Love Tegray Scales for Indiana, just as productive. I think they have too many other needs to address corner again in the first round. DT should be picked high, love Harrison Phillips for Stanford, Hurst from Michigan and a few other guys. I expect them to take a 2nd round or late first round offensive lineman and another some point in the draft. I think they may go after a faster wide receiver since they have Benjamin now. Or we may see Clay leave and they look to replace him with a guy like Mark Andrews from Oaklahoma? Who knows but another weapon will help whoever is playing QB next season. I love Nelson but I'm afraid he will be picked higher than us. But honestly other than safety, they can go pretty much anywhere. They need more talent across the board.

Draft prospects- defensive front 7. Who do you like?
The Now Moment replied to NewEra's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No I had this pegged as need as soon as McDermott walked in the building. Carolina drafted Lotulelei, Short and last year Butler in the first round, all of them are DTs that were for McDermott's system. The players we have are either aging or don't really fit the scheme well. And forget run defense for a second, what about the lack of pass rush from the interior of that line this year? There's a lot of factors that come into play and the majority point to a new set of DTs. That's what this regime has a history of. -
Bills D has quit on the fans
The Now Moment replied to Norwood for Wall of Fame's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's not a very talented group. Our entire linebacker core is slow and two are on the wrong side of 30. Our DTs both need replacing, they have held back our ends. It's not hard to figure out...it's not a very talented group. But a lot of draft picks and free agents will fix that. Most of the players don't fit the scheme...so...there's that. Tyrod had a fairly clean pocket yesterday. We rushed for a decent ypg, 15 carries for 69 yards. Yet, he couldn't pass for over 60 yards...that's embarrassing. We have Benjamin and had Clay back. Peterman looked better than Tyrod in preseason and still looks better than him now. The guy can throw an accurate pass from 10-25 yards. The only reason to not make the switch is Tyrod well liked in the locker room. They don't want to lose the locker room over benching a team leader in the middle of a wild card hunt. If we lose like this again though, you betcha he'll be pulled. -

Don't look at one individual game...The DTs aren't talented and neither are the linebackers besides imo Milano, who needs more playing time. Some of them don't fit the scheme and some aren't good enough. If they aren't removed this year they will be next year. However, with so many draft picks and salary cap, I think they will overhaul both groups. Most of our starters are free agents anyway I do agree though, a MLB should be one of the higher priorities -

That's what makes him perfect for this system. He's mobile and accurate within 20 yards. -

Harrison Phillips DT Stanford. 6'3" 295. He's a lot like kyle williams. Is a senior and has had two productive years including this season's 65 tackle, 10.5 TFL, 5 sack performance that isn't over yet. He Has 12 sacks in two years. Really like the kid. Smart, upstanding character and seems to fit the scheme well. Just looks like a McDermott pick. Tegray Scales LB Indiana 6'0" 230 lbs. He is the perfect player for McDermott's scheme. He has had 4 years of productive play in Indiana. Isn't a headcase and can lead a defense. his most productive year saw 125 tackles, 24 TFL, 7 sacks and an INT. He's showed he is fast and can cover down the field with his 7 career interceptions. He is a triple threat linebacker who can stuff the run, cover and get after the QB. Just like Luke Keuchly does in Carolina. Seems like a match to me. He's just a little undersized. I like many others but these popped out to me as really realistic options. Later in the draft Josey Jewell and the Washington linebackers are nice fits as well. Lowell Lotulelei later in the draft for DT. Defensive end is tough. I really only like the top few guys. Arden Key is one of my favorite prospects. He hasn't had a tremendous year trying to come back from injury but he is a monster when healthy. He plays with such passion it amps everyone else up. He and Bradley Chubb have caught my eye. I think they both have the potential to land high in the top ten so that puts us out of reach for now at least. Some of the others are very good but just not a complete package to me. There will be plenty of options though if they decide to go that route. I personally think DT and LB are bigger needs. However, it will be interesting to see if they draft a QB. If that happens in the first round, you can expect a few lineman with some of the high picks in the draft. So maybe, the front 7 won't be addressed a whole lot through the draft this year. Who knows what direction they take. They luckily have enough picks to give help to both sides a little. We do not have DTs. They will need two new ones. Washington is not good in the run defense and hasn't shown he can get to the QB. I'm all for developing young players but if they don't fit the scheme...there's no point. He had trouble with off the field stuff at the beginning of the year as well. Kyle Williams is old and has looked it. His contact is up, he may retire or stay on for nothing in a diminished role. The rest are backups at best...the DTs and linebackers are needs. Carolina draft a ton of DTs and LBs in McDermott/Beane's time there. He is addressing the DT, I guarantee it. -
Harrison Phillips DT Stanford is should be a riser as we approach the draft. I think his lack of outstanding athleticism will hurt him from rising too high. The 6'3" 290 defensive tackle reminds me of a young Kyle Williams having the ability to burst through the line with a quick first step. He can hold his own in the run game. This year he has recorded 65 tackles, 10.5 for loss and 5 sacks. That's a solid statline for a college DT not through a full season yet. He had 46 tackles, 10 for loss and 7 sacks in his junior season. I think he is perfect for this scheme. He might make his way into the tail end of the first round but will may fall to the second. He has the upstanding character, high production over a few years in college profile that McDermott likes. And he goes to Stanford...he's gotta be smart to go there. I think he should be on the radar
-
He started at left tackle. I wasn't paying attention to him. Anyone see how he did? It didn't seem like Tyrod was under a lot of pressure and Shady had a decent running game especially with his 36 yarder Dawkins way but other than that I really wasn't watching him. He seemed to play well there.

Every Nate Peterman throw from the Saints game
The Now Moment replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Maybe so but at least he made accurate passes. His throw from the 21 to Thompson in the endzone was a really nice ball but Thompson was getting mugged. He didn't make the ball uncatchable like so many of Tyrod's throws to the sideline. Plus Peterman took an endzone shot...Tyrod doesn't do that a lot. The kid seems accurate. His preseason was accurate and players were playing for their lives then. He showed a nice chemistry with Peterman in a few games in the preseason. I am running out of things to say about Tyrod that are positive. If he throws up another dud...Peterman will be warming up. -

It's inevitable...just how long do we have to wait. It'll happen. Tyrod's days are limited -

I feel the agony too. But if Tyrod keeps throwing duds, the locker room might look somewhere else and then...the change can be made -

He seems to pass the 10-25 yard ball really well and on target. Haven't seen him throw the ball down field a lot but that's already a step up -

Exactly. There's a ton of players like him. Just needs to get some players in the locker room behind him and get this bandwagon going. Otherwise, it's Tyrod until we are mathematically eliminated. The coach doesn't want to lose the locker room over benching a highly regarded player in the midst of us being in the wild card hunt -

Chad Pennington...I'll take accuracy any day over a guy who can heave it but isn't accurate enough. -

I think you nailed it on the head. Pick the QB with our first pick and fill in holes after that. If they grab a QB, I'd expect the oline to be addressed twice early. -

The Now Moment replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Anyone else notice he took an endzone shot to Thompson and didn't heave it out of bounds. He through a really nice ball that fell incomplete because the defender was all over Thompson. How many times has Tyrod one: thrown it to into the endzone outside the twenty and two: made a catchable ball when throwing to the sideline. He gave the guy a chance to catch the ball...sure it's an incompletion but that's a nice ball. -

The Now Moment replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Anyone else notice how many different receivers he threw to in his short stint? He hit a couple different wide receivers, hit his tight end a few times and utilized his running back but didn't drop it down to him too much. This was the perfect performance for Peterman. It could've only been better if he hit a bomb for a touchdown. In the preseason, he displayed a nice chemistry with Zay Jones as well. To me, the only part that makes this decision hard is Tyrod is the leader of this offense. We might not think so but he is highly regarded in the locker room. It's tough to displace someone who is a leader when we are still in the wild card hunt. But I think we need to do it. If he's better, he could lead us to the playoffs. If he's not, we will suck the rest of the year and know that QB is top priority. This coaching staff after 9 games knows what they have in Tyrod as QB. It's time to see their draft pick, Peterman. To me, he fits this sheme perfectly. Not asked to do too much but can still throw the ball with accuracy and get it out quickly. He also has the mobility to do a boot play or evade rushes with his feet. Let's see if Peterman can throw to the wide receivers. We all know Tyrod had a very difficult time with that. Peterman in this short little opportunity, granted in garbage time, showed exactly what we saw in the preseason. He's accurate and decisive. I think giving him some playing time now will help his development as I believe he is ready for his opportunity. Let's turn this high potential offense around -
They didn't even get a full offseason...he will be replaced this offseason. Again, they bridge the gap with players from the last team until they fill the need. We have a ton of needs that need to be filled and a ton that needed to be this offseason, it can't all be done in one offseason man...it takes time

Whither Preston Brown?
The Now Moment replied to Freddie's Dead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Humber, Brown and Lorax don't fit the scheme. Take a look at Carolina's linebackers...all fast, can cover and blitz well. They also stuff the run. All of our linebackers need to be replaced but I think Beane and McDermott know that, that's why they draft two linebackers. Brown would be the only one that some might consider but he's too slow. Humber may be resigned for depth or if they don't get to replacing him as we have many holes but eventually all should be replaced -
He didn't buy into the system and when a leader on the defense doesn't buy into the system, you have the chance to lose a lot of other players that look up to him. Making that move now, while it doesn't help this season, was the right move. To them it is all about culture and chemistry. Having a guy that is questioning everything on the team will not help you succeed, it will just be a distraction. Plus more cap space. The front office doesn't care how we do now...they are making moves for 3-4 years from now when they have replaced the majority if not all of the roster they inherited. They are rebuilding...
-
I realize that, I was one of the first to say he needs to be replaced but through the draft. The only reason he is on the team is because he is familiar with the system and McDermott/Beane. That's what coaches do, bring players from their last team to slap on as a bandaid until the position is addressed. Tolbert will be replaced but not this season. Some fans can't forgive that for some reason and don't see that it's all about the future. Whatever happens this year doesn't really matter to the front office. They are looking to get the right guys for 3-4 years from now. How many players did Rex bring over when he came from the Jets? Those were bridge players, it happens with every coach haha. To them it's one less guy they have to bring up to speed and teach their system to. It makes sense, just Tolbert is old and not playing well

For those calling for FO and coaching change
The Now Moment replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The problem is, fans overreact so quickly and can put pressure on Pegula to make a move. All the moves they've made have clearly been for the future and some fans blame them for "the roster they built" for this year when they clearly inherited most of it and just need time to replace the bridge players and the players that don't fit. Just hoping the impatient fans don't run this group out of Buffalo
