  1. The thing is, a new coaching staff bringing a new scheme should at least see what they have in a QB before ditching him to the curb.  He could've played extremely well, unfortunately, it didn't pan out.  But as a head coach, with a position like QB, you have to let him play and see what you have.  Now that you know, you can move on.  They still might be able to trade him for something, who knows.  That's if that is the direction they want to go

I am skeptical of using the word success with Dennison.  You are right though, Peterman may fit this system much better.  I don't like to stare over the cliff but if it is Dennison just sucks we need to get rid of him before we draft a "franchise" QB.

Well, I think that's what part of this move is about.  They aren't just evaluating Tyrod and Peterman but Dennison and his scheme as well.  Finding it out before the offseason starts gives them an advantage to come up with a gameplan moving into the offseason.  If Peterman plays well and we put a lot of points on the board, obviously it was Tyrod.  If Peterman doesn't do well, it may not be Dennison's fault but he will not be as comfortable in his position

It’s either good or a nightmare and the jury is out. They are dangerous both good and bad. This team has been gutted of talent but loaded up with draft picks. It is certainly different but it is WAY too early to declare it a success. It’s also a little ironic that the Carolina defense is now tops in the NFL.

I'm just happy that they aren't being conservative and actually have some guts to make changes when players don't fit even if they are talented in other schemes

Look at the Rams this season.  They put McVay with Philips.  I almost could have told you before they played a game that they would be a good team.  We year after year put a team on the field that doesn't compete on both sides of the ball and it almost always starts with coaching.  If they could have kept Gailey with Pettine or Schwartz with Roman or Lynn with Frazier now maybe we'd be somewhere.  I just have this terrible sinking feeling.  Hopefully I'm wrong and Peterson is the fit Dennison needs otherwise we will have problems until the jettison Dennison.

To me, it's pretty clear that Tyrod doesn't fit Dennison's scheme and Dennison's system doesn't fit Tyrod's abilities.  It really is all about if the system matches the players you have. Some players can play in multiple schemes, Tyrod is not one of those players.  Dennison has had success with guys in the past like Trevor Siemian who has looked like trash in a new scheme.  And let's not forget that the Rams have a ton of high draft picks at key positions...so there's that as well.

I've been reading alot on social media since it was announced that Peterman will start. Half the people are super excited and the other half think the bills are tanking

I said on Monday that listening to McDermott's press conference infuriated me. Lots of the "we believe in our guys" type answers. But we may finally have a coach who isn't just settling for mediocrity. We've done this song and dance for so long. I absolutely love that the change was made. We are trying to save this season

Just posted a similar thing not knowing you did the same.  Must have missed it on the boards sorry mods, but this new regime has some guts.  They aren't afraid to make moves and I for one find it refreshing.

Whatever system that puts 30-40 points on the board works for me.

A lot of NFL coaches refuse to run college systems like Houston has done because they aren't familiar with it.  Houston's head coach coming from college is a perfect pairing for Watson.  Not sure how he'd have done on almost any other team.  He really struck gold.

  7. I think it is more than refreshing to finally get a GM/Head Coach combination with some guts and that are on the same page.  Over the last few seasons, we haven't had our Head Coach and GM on the same page.  Now, these guys clearly look on the same page.  They are making quick decisive moves and quickly reshaping an old roster that doesn't exactly fit the scheme.  Everyone is being evaluated and kicked to the curb if they aren't what this combination is looking for out of that position.  Finally! Finally, someone who has the guts to gut a team of it's players that may be leaders on the team but they just don't fit.  While Whaley made trades as well, I'm sure the disconnect between him and Rex caused problems when it came to drafting or trading for guys.

I'm so thankful that this group has the guts to pull a QB in the midst of a wild card hunt knowing that it may not work out and may backfire, but take a chance for once.  Don't be overly conservative.  If a guy can be upgraded...why not give it a try?  San Fran pulled Alex Smith as they were kicking the league in the ash.  His back up ended up lighting a fire under the team and they went to the super bowl all because they took a chance.  I realize that one is now still in the league while another is not but in that situation, he helped lead that team to a Super Bowl.  That's a gutsy call.

Beane and McDermott's familiarity with each other and coming from the same team will help the team as they know what type of players to look for.  I've seen a wide range of opinions about the pairing so far but I think these two have some guts and don't just stick with what they inherited.  They are a couple of ambitious guys and I for one, am all aboard!

Watson had a 400 yard passing game with 50 yards rushing

Tyrod has a 56 yard passing game and a 125 yard passing game

    Thet are nothing alike.

Rosen or Rudolph is the pick I hope.

But coming out of college that is tough to evaluate.  The only reason Watson was so successful is because of the Clemson look-a-like scheme that Houston ran.  Tyrod is trying to run an NFL scheme and he just can't do it.  I don't know how Watson would run an NFL scheme.

I like a few QBs but the system we run requires a QB with some mobility.  Luckily, most QBs in college nowadays have at least some kind of wheels.  To me, it is important to separate the ones that just can run and the ones that can throw on the run.  I know he has looked rough in some games but Josh Allen has proven he can make all of the throws while on the move.  I wouldn't be shocked if they take a flier on him and see if they can coach him.  We have a good amount of weapons on this team for a rookie QB.  Whoever they get if they decide to draft someone, should be able to produce with what we have and I'm sure they will add more if they get a QB.

What do you think about Magnifico?

While he's been a better weapon for them this year, he's still only a sophomore and he's been playing as a complement player (which most tight ends do).  Next year, I hope he becomes the passing weapon on that team.  Unfortunately for him, Ferguson is a senior.  Would love to see him beef up a little while keeping his wheels.  He has a lot of developing to do but he will be on draft radars in the near future.  He's just not there as of now IMO

I believe this too when your an actual proven coach, not a rookie.

It's a different approach and honestly after all of these years, a different direction isn't a bad idea

Belichick has Pioli before he was “Belichick.”  Personally, it seems like too big of a job for one person.  Chip Kelly won 10 games his first 2 seasons. He then got all the power, made stupid moves possibly personality moves like cutting Desean Jackson and trading McCoy, and he promptly got fired.

i really don’t know too many first year coaches who have gotten the power SM has. Who is there to check him? Certainly not the GM he essentially hired.

And McDermott has Beane who seem to work together as a team instead of fight each other on decisions like we've had in the past with coaches and gms...that should be a good thing.

  11. I love the people who are predicting how Peterman will suck.  How many QBs have we as individuals predicted in our own heads to be great or to suck and they just don't turn out that way.  Russell, Leaf, Cousins being a solid starter as a fourth round pick, Tom Brady...the list goes on and on.  Yet, each and every one of us has it all figured our right?  Who knows what will happen, but I'm rooting for Bills either way!! All aboard the Peterman bandwagon!

If he becomes the next guy, all of those fans that went to last week's game didn't just witness a horrid game...but the start of a new era...Peterman.  Let's hope for the best instead of thinking the guy will suck...he's shown promise

Tate is a very good returner. Still. After a long time doing it. And if he gets hurt while returning it? Oh well he is the 5th or 6th wide receiver.

While he's been okay, there has been very little excitement on returns.  I liked McKelvin even though he fumbled, he hit the home run a few times.  Our starting field position has been horrid.

  13. Tre White has proven to be a solid football player over the course only 9 games in his young career.  Why not expand his duties a little and let him return punts or kickoffs?  In college he had 3 kick returns for touchdowns.  We have seen a few decent returns this year but why not give this kid a shot too?  Who knows, he could become the next Patrick Peterson if he excels...or maybe he doesn't.  Worth a shot?

  14. If this team switches QBs next year and starts to pass more or at least more efficiently, a guy like WR Anthony Miller from Memphis could be a weapon they add.  He'll likely wind up between the end of the first round and the middle of the second.  He's a huge playmaker with the ball in his hands.  Can run routes well or take a screen or handoff.  He can also return kicks.  He's very fast and could be extremely productive in the slot.  To me, he's the missing offensive weapon for a QB.  He's a potential direction, especially if we grab a QB high but we do have a lot of other holes on the team that need to be filled.  We will see how they prioritize those needs soon enough.

he's Trent Edwards, I am not sold on him yet, throwing comeback routes against a prevent defense does nothing for me.  He is a good backup and we shouldn't fool ourselves that he is anything more than that.  Tyrod is better, but I think Tyrod is a back up, placed into a starting role.

So you agree we know what we have in Tyrod.  If we get smoked again, what's the harm in seeing if Peterman is more than Trent Edwards.  If he's great...then you keep developing him.  If he's not, we know we need to draft a QB in the draft.  What's the harm in seeing what you have on the roster before investing another draft pick or potentially more in another QB?

I am not quite sure the difference between DT and DE as far as talent....  There are vets, undrafteds and first rounders on both positions.  Neither has been particularly strong but the difference is the DTs are not counted on for putting pressure on the QB in this defense.

Yet in McDermott's Carolina defense, Kawonn Short was drafted and had double digit sacks...I completely disagree with the notion that DTs don't need to create pressure in this scheme or in most schemes for that matter.  The DEs have been by themselves in trying to get to the QB if you watch closely.  Hughes has had pressures, just hasn't gotten there.  The QBs that we've played against have been way too comfortable in the pocket.  The DTs need to provide interior rush to push the QB out of the pocket into the arms of the DEs but they haven't provided even the slightest bit of push all season really.  We have very few sacks as a team.  We also do not have any first rounders at the DT position right now.  Washington was a third and isn't playing well.  Both Shaq and Hughes were former 1st rounders and Shaq is still developing.  One fat run stuffer and a DT that can get penetration is what McDerm had in Carolina in Lotulelei and Short.  They even drafted another first DT in Vernon Butler...3 first round DTs.  I fully expect that trend to continue now that he is here.

Scales is tricky prospect.  He has so much potential, but his game is so raw.  He shows high level athleticism but lacks any sort of aggression and simple linebacker traits like a consistent tackling ability.  He's a project player that I personally wouldn't want Buffalo to take in the first two days.

I have yet to see Phillips and I do like Hurst.  My issue with defensive tackle is that we need more of a traditional, run stuffing defensive tackle but everyone in this draft seems to be a quick pass rusher.

As for Mark Andrews, I love the talent that he presents.  However, I don't think our coaching staff will like it.  He's a very reluctant blocker and mainly used as a passing threat which isn't what we're looking for.  We want a tight end that can play in a 7 down lineman set and open up the running game for Shady, or whoever our running back may be going forward.

Scales is someone I'd take in a heartbeat.  He can get to the QB, run stuff and intercept passes.  He's proven it throughout his productive 4 year career at Indiana.  He has a lot of potential, needs to keep developing just like every other young player

I was when they were 5-2, are these guys different.  You can say we lost Dareus but he missed a few games and was rotational for the rest of them.  The DTs are tired and need help.  The embarrassment was the LBs.  Not one shot the gaps and everyone was tackling behind them.  Could the DTs done more sure but they weren't the big issue

This defense wasn't about interior pressure, remember this is Frazier's defense not McDerm's.  Why exactly are the DEs not held accountable for pass rush?

Everyone should be able to create pressure along the dline not just the DEs...They have potential talent there still, DT doesn't
