I don't think this offseason will be there spending offseason. I think the following offseason they will dip into the free agent market more and let the youth get another year to develop to see what needs are left. That being said, I expect them to go after a few guys. We shall see.

"Not a chance." - Rodak on Coaching Change

Agreed. The fans will not be happy until we have a winning season though. It doesn't matter if we look like we are going in the right direction or not, they will just criticize and call for more firings releasing their frustrations. And the cycle continues -
Trading down in the draft?
The Now Moment replied to The Now Moment's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You say there will...I'm just pointing out that there may not be. If a few of the qbs stay in school or the QB needy teams scoop them all up at the top...I'm not drafting the leftovers. Again, this was strictly scenario. I said it in the original post that I want the QB but it has to be available too. Sometimes it's not, then what do you do... -
Trading down in the draft?

Well, the options have to be there too. That was the entire point of the post. If the top QBs go ahead of us even if we try to trade up...what do we do? I said try to trade down and restock your picks for next year to give yourself the same position we had this year. We could fill in the holes and go into next year with only QB on our mind. Who knows if Allen or Darnold even come out. Do we really just want to take a QB just to take one in the draft instead of grabbing the guy you love? I think Tyrod is gone and they will be looking for another veteran to take his place until we draft our guy at QB. If we don't get our guy, I could see this regime passing and not settling for a 5th QB in the class. If they get the lucky chance to trade up for Darnold or Rosen, hallelujah. If not...this may be the best option -
Trading down in the draft?

If you read, I state that the top QBs could be out of reach if the QB needy teams at the top decide to draft them. There are more QB needy teams at the top than there are QBs that warrant that those draft spots. They could be gone and we may not have any say in the matter even with all of our picks. I am in the camp of trading up for a QB but sometimes it doesn't work out. I poised the idea if that scenario were to happen. But let's throw around insults. Can't even have a conversation anymore... -
I completely disagree. The NFL is a completely different game. While in hockey, yes, players can hit other players and check and all that good stuff. Tackling the other person in the NFL is an absolute necessity, checking is not. You are on a bigger stage of physicality in the NFL. You have bigger players who can hit harder in the NFL. Try letting 300 pound men that hate each other sort things out themselves...plus it's tough to fight on skates. All they can really do is throw a few punches. The players in the NFL don't have that restriction, it'd be a brawl. The NFL is way more physical of a sport to be messing around with allowing the players to fight a little. The NFL is way way more violent and when you let the players emotions dictate a "little fight," you are playing with fire. No offense at all but it would be a horrible idea.

Trading down in the draft?

If you can't select one of the top QBs, do you just select one out of desperation? That doesn't sound too great. I 100% agree we need to draft a QB. But let's take one we love, not one we are ehh about. Because those guys aren't long term starters...they are guys that can bridge the gap as an okay starter for maybe a year. The entire part of the post that people seem to be missing is we may not have a chance at the top QBs in this draft. This is an option if that happens. If Sam Darnold and Josh Rosen are gone, who here would be willing to trade multiple first round picks and probably other picks for Josh Allen or Baker Mayfield? Is that something you really want to do? If I'm giving up a ton of picks, I want one of the top tier guys and that's Darnold or Rosen at this point -
Trading down in the draft?

We will see how the dominoes fall though. If San Fran jumps back up into the 2nd pick...we are in business. I think they'd want to look to get as many picks as possible to surround Jimmy g with talent. Seeing that there isn't a lot of top wide receivers or offensive lineman in the class...they should be the target. Just need the Giants to win We ended up with Tre White after we traded down last year...and this year, it's not like the top talent in the class is really really special. By the time we pick in the teens, it'll be around the same type of player we could get later in the first. The trade partner must be there though -

Honestly, I couldn't give a crap if it's bad luck. I'd rather do my due diligence then believe in some superstition -
Trading down in the draft?
The Now Moment replied to The Now Moment's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The thing is, they might not have a choice. Look at the QB needy teams at the top of the draft this year. Cleveland, the Giants, Denver, Arizona is ahead of us, the Jets are ahead...who knows is we even have a chance at a QB. We can all sit here and say let's trade up let's trade up but if the QBs aren't there by the time we can trade...what do you do? That's what I proposed in this. If the Giants stay at number 2 in the draft, Darnold and Rosen could be off the board with the top two picks. Then, would you really want to give up mulitple picks for Mayfield or Allen at this point? That's up to you. I say, restock the draft picks for next year if they don't get into that top two conversation and fill out the rest of the roster as best they can. Maybe they could bring in a guy like Case Keenum or Bradford to bridge the gap. The QBs have to be available too. BTW. I'm all for trading up if that option is available. However, I'm not trading multiple picks for Mayfield or Allen. Not worth it to me -
We've heard all the hype around rbs like Barkley and Guice but what about Kerryon Johnson for Auburn? He's been quietly a monster and the key to Auburn's victories over Alabama and Georgia. I think he could be a guy that rises into the second round conversation if he comes out this year. I hope he's on Buffalo's radar even though I think 2nd round is too high to take a back for Buffalo. With such a deep class, Buffalo can take a back in the middle to later rounds and get some quality production out of the guy. Our late third or 4th round pick should be used to take a back. Who knows, with a crowded running back class we could get a really good back in one of those spots.

Trading down in the draft?
The Now Moment replied to The Now Moment's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As I stated, in this scenario they didn't find the right trade partner to move up. I suggested they find a guy like Bradford or Keenum to play as the bridge QB for next year. I'm with ya, I want the QB too but sometimes there's just too many QB needy teams that pick ahead of us. RIght now, the Browns, Giants and Broncos look like they all might draft a QB and they draft 1, 2 and 4 respectively. The QB thing might not happen this year. So I say trade down again if they can find a trade partner and try to fill in the majority of the holes. They have a nice chunk of change to play with in the offseason as well especially if they ditch Tryod's contract. They did a nice job of adding Poyer and Hyde who have been pretty darn good in the secondary. I expect we go after a few more free agents this year as they will be letting most of the past regime's players walk in free agency and get their own hand picked players in the building. This will be a totally different team next year if they can do this offseason well. -
See the thing is, you expect a "little fight"...the steelers and bengals aren't gonna have no "little fight." Rivalries aren't gonna have little fights. It will be a brawl. Maybe not every time, but if you allow it...it will blow up into big fights. Not a good idea at all in my opinion. Wouldn't protect head injuries.

Trading down in the draft?
The Now Moment replied to The Now Moment's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It is a real possibility. If they miss out on one of the top guys, this might be the best option. If they got something similar to what they got from KC, I'd jump for joy. I'm just suggesting another likable path that has a possibility of happening -
Trading down in the draft?
The Now Moment replied to The Now Moment's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm saying if they don't get the chance to grab one of the top players. I want the QB too but sometimes the trade partners don't want to trade or trade to someone else. This seems like a nice consolation prize -
We've all discussed the idea of trading up in the draft for a QB since we acquired all of the high draft picks we have in the upcoming draft. What if instead of trading up, they decide to trade down. If Buffalo's first first round pick is around 10, I could see them trading back in the draft again if they don't find a trade partner in the draft. If they traded to a team like Jacksonville, the Saints, Minnesota or Pittsburgh who all could be looking for replacement QBs like Kansas City did last year. If Buffalo doesn't get the chance to draft one of the top QBs, I think they could be looking for a trade down like this. They could acquire more picks and fill out the roster with talent more. This would be my second favorite option if they don't get the QB they want. See if you can trade down and fill in some other holes. If they traded down with say the Saints, who could be looking for Drew Brees eventual replacement. If they got another haul similar to what we got in the KC deal, I'd say go for it. Keep stacking up a lot of high draft picks. They got Tre White after trading down...that's a pretty solid talent to grab after trading down so far. Why not try to do the same thing but maybe they draft an offensive lineman or someone for the front 7 on defense. This isn't my favorite option. I want to try to go get the QB but sometimes the trade partners just aren't there or don't want to trade down so far. If the trade up doesn't happen Buffalo could trade down and keep stacking 1st, 2nd and 3rd round picks that will help this rebuild go faster. If they went this direction, we would see one of the "traveler" QBs here for a year. Like Keenum or Bradford...Not my ideal but I don't think it'd be a bad option. We'd have plenty of picks to attempt to patch several holes. This is an option that may happen come draft day.

Great analysis, I look forward to seeing how he plays. One thing though...never compare a player to Reggie White. That's just unfair -
Early signing period: December 20-22
The Now Moment replied to YoloinOhio's topic in College Football
I consider signing day a part of the offseason and don't like it to be before bowl games. Either way I'm excited to see where the prospects land... -
While I like Mayfield, he still has a lot of flaws. He may sneak into the top ten but that's as high as I see him going. If he has poor interviews or a less than stellar draft process, he would find his way to the second round. He's really hit or miss with me. Not my favorite QB prospect this year.

I think a roster turnover is what we needed. Plus, I believe the defense got a little better. Besides those 3 games they'd be around the top 5 in points allowed. Obviously you can't leave those games out though. But adding a few pieces to that defense to get them to consistently play like they did in the first part of the year would be huge. The regime got Hyde on a 5 year 32 million dollar deal and he has 5 INTs and has been on of the best defenders on the team by far...Poyer has had some great games himself on a 3 million and change salary. I don't care if they don't have any big contracts, if they find contributors with lower salaries...I'm all for it. Who cares if we don't have big salaries. You can't overhaul an entire roster in one year. It won't happen. It will take a few years if they nail a couple of draft picks and FA, we could be sniffing our first playoff action in some time with the looks for long term success if we grab a top QB. I like what they've done to position themselves to get the franchise QB, hopefully they find the right guy

Yup nailed it. Fans are just impatient... I think this regime has given themselves an opportunity to be successful long term if they find the QB -
You really think the league would allow that? We are trying to get less violent and allowing players to sort it out...isn't going to lower injuries. I think they need to up the suspensions if they really want to make a difference. There is no place in the game for the crap that gronk and others have done this week. Absolute garbage. I don't really care if it was part of the older league, the league is changing and has changed. Gronk should've gotten 2 games suspension and a third game equivalent fine. I don't want to see fighting on the field and I don't think the owners do either

Strongly disagree. Leslie Frazier has done a nice job with a lot of aging players on the front 7. Not much talent there right now. The system relies on pass rush from the front 4 so the secondary can feast. The team did well at times this year. We had a decent pass rush when we were getting turnovers left and right early in the season. A couple of fresh faces on the front 7 will help a lot. Our defense has been a bright spot most of the year in terms of holding teams to few points. With the lack of talent we have...that's pretty good. I think you aren't giving Frazier enough credit. He also did fairly well against Tom Brady, we sacked him a few times and got pressure on him. He definitely deserves another season. Don't be so quick to fire everybody...too much turnover can hurt development
