I recall him saying that he didn't think they gave him a fair shot at the job... but I don't remember him saying they were 'racist.' That's an awfully strong thing to say and if he said that, it would have been huge news.... people (ie the media) eat those types of accusations up and don't take it lightly.

We are in the perfect draft position
Dawgg replied to BuffBills#1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think that is more attributable to John Butler than Marv. And John Butler showed in his very first move in San Diego that he's not afraid to make draft day trades, trading the #1 overall for the #5 and somem extra picks and players. And keep in mind for the great majority of Marv's tenure, the Bills were picking at the end of the draft -- hardly a place teams are clamoring to trade up for. I think (and hope!) Marv will have some help from Modrak in this regard. Unless a can't miss prospect shows up, I think we should trade down, just like Donahoe wisely did in his first draft here. This team cannot afford another high first round bust. We need an infusion of productive players. -
Regardless, it's unfair to blame that on TD... traning camp cuts are primarily the head coach's call.

Jerry Sullivan made a great point in his column

Dear FFS, I like your posts. I find them rather insightful. However, I simply cannot devote the time to read them in full. To me, that is a shame. I would appreciate it if you could make some efforts to post in a more succinct fashion so that I can enjoy them without devoting 10 minutes to read them. Sincerely, Dawgg -
Dick Jauron, when given a chance has proven to be a good coach. When the Bears brought in a new GM, he had NO intention of keeping Jauron. What did Jauron do during his make or break year? He led his team to a 13-3 finish and forced the Bears to begrudgingly give him an extension. And before you bring it up (because I know all of you will pounce on this), the next two seasons under Jauron were medicre and poor at best. What people fail to realize is that: - They drafted a QB who turned out to be a miserable failure (McNown) - They drafted a WR in the top 10 who turned out to be a miserable failure (Terrell) - They lost solid players to injury (Urlacher, BigTed, A-Train) Sherman, on the other hand, walked into a situation in which his team was one year removed from the NFC Freakin Championship. Put Jauron in his shoes and you never know what he could have done. Am I saying Jauron is the answer? I don't know the f***ing answer. But I find it rather amusing that people think we let this amazing coach slip through our fingers in MIKE SHERMAN. If he was such a great coach, why didn't he get a job with one of the other teams?????? In fact, more than half the teams with vacancies didn't even bother to interview him. I'd like an answer to that one.

Lads and gents, your 2006 Bungling Bills!
Dawgg replied to Grant's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
See, that's where I disagree. If you are going to say that the Bears were a dump after Jauron left, then you also have to agree that the Packers are a dump after Sherman left. Both Jauron and Sherman's teams suffered losing seasons for reasons beyond their control. Sherman lost a few linemen to free agency, his #1 receiver and top 2 running backs. Jauron lost the league's premier linebacker, his top 2 QBs (one of which was CADE MCNOWN), and his #1 running back. I'm not going to sit here and claim that Jauron holds the key to success. I don't know the answer to that question. But I really don't think that Sherman is that much better than Jauron. -

If we were talking about Bill Parcells vs. Dick Jauron or Jon Gruden vs. Dick Jauron, I would agree with you. However, we are talking about Mike Sherman. MIKE SHERMAN people. This guy had one of the great quarterbacks of this era and some solid offensive weapons, yet couldn't get his team deep into the playoffs. He took over a team that was two years removed from winning the NFC and managed to produce a winning record. Very impressive indeed and my hats off to him -- I would have loved to see him come to Buffalo. Jauron, on the other hand, walked into a dump of a team. It took years of drafting and free agent signees to overcome that. Sherman, on the other hand, was in a position to win right away. After serving one year as head coach, he was HANDED the general managers job after Ron Wolf retired. He must have had a great deal of front office experience, right? Wrong. Point here is that Sherman is not THAT much of a slam dunk over Jauron. Get over it. -
Its over, why bother watching this team?
Dawgg replied to Like A Mofo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well if all you care about is previous record then you will get no arguments here. Personally, I'm willing to look beyond that number because I realize that a head coach is only as good as his personnel. -
I love this. Please keep it coming.

Want facts? Here are some facts: He was defensive coordinator for Detroit, not head coach. Detroit spent all of their first round picks on OFFENSE, including receiver for 3 years in a row. He worked under one of the most inept personnel guys in the NFL in Matt Millen. He won a division title in Chicago and had the #1 defense that year. He got fired after a season in which he lost Shane Matthews, Rex Grossman, and Brian Urlacher to injury for the entire season. -
Now start one more negative thread.

i have resolved to be happy with the hire
Dawgg replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agreed. I am quite optimistic about this hire. -
Amen to that. It looks like he has learned his lesson. Instead of going after, past-their-prime vets, he is hiringr top-notch coaching talent.

If you could keep just one TD draftee . . .
Dawgg replied to Orton's Arm's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Haha once again, we get the patented FFS enumarated list. Last time I saw one of these, you were arguing in favor of Mike Williams. I think it's a question of value. While I don't think this season is a true reflection of WM's ability, I think you have to take into account how replaceable these players are. The fact of the matter is good running backs who move the chains are much easier to find than explosive receivers and this has been a major trend of late. The Bills managed to get Travis Henry after the first round and he was a productive RB for quite some time. Backs like Larry Johnson and Kevin Jones were late first round picks. While WRs are in abundance in every draft, a smaller fraction of them end up performing the way they were touted to perform. Bottom line, productive running backs are easier to find. Teams often have a surplus of running backs. Baltimore had Jamal Lewis and Priest Holmes on the same roster! Carolina had Stephen Davis and Deshaun Foster. Pittsburgh has the Bus and Parker. Receivers like Lee Evans are hard to replace and for that reason, I have to agree with Holcomb's Arm here. -
This joke is hilarious. Let's keep posting it. In fact, I'm going to go ahead and start a new thread right now.

The Bears had horrible personnel. They had no offensive weapons, their defense didn't have the players that they have now. Jauron did what he could with that talent. People once thought Bellichick sucked after his stint with Cleveland. If Marv thinks he'd be a good coach, I wouldn't mind seeing him come to Buffalo.

I hear you... Last time I posted something based on what I heard from someone on the team, I was also villified.

I strongly disagree with the statement that they were a good team last season. Teams they beat: Miami (twice) NY Jets Arizona San Francisco Cleveland Cincinatti St. Louis Only three of those teams made the playoffs (Jets, Seattle and St. Louis) and the record of the opponents they beat was 42-72 with a whopping .368 winning percentage. While the win streak was certainly impressive, this team was the fortunate beneficiary of a powder puff schedule -- a benefit that they did not have this year and it showed. -
He coordinated a top 3 defense 2 years in a row. He'll definitely get a coordinator job somewhere.

Hey AKC...You Were Balls-On Accurate About Brady
Dawgg replied to IDBillzFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Most definitely. I think everyone was hoping for Marvin to wear the red white and blue. He was a local product out of Syracuse and it was no secret the Bills coveted him. One can only wonder how Harrison would have fared with the Bills' tenuous QB situation... and extending that thought, how Moulds may have fared in Indy. -

Fair enough, I do buy your argument that a comparison of two players in different systems is often an apples to oranges comparison. Although I'd still take Harrison (who is still one of THE best route runners in the NFL) over Branch in a heartbeat, I definitely do see your point about Corey Dillon and the role he plays in the NE offense as opposed to the one he played in Cincinatti. -

I'm just stating my opinion. Harrison and Wayne are FAR better than Branch and Givens. Edgerrin is a much better all-around back than Dillon. -

This is where I have a problem with Donahoe and his regime. It was well known for a long time that Jennings' contract was up and there was not a single, viable replacement on the roster. A good GM will forecast this and draft someone to take his place. Perhaps that's what he had in mind with the likes of Marques Sullivan and Sobieski.. but both turned out to be busts.
