  1. Gambling is an unhealthy addiction and will eventually lead to corruption as it has laready done in the past. This gambling venture is destined to undermine the game as well as many lives. It was a bad idea from the get-go.
  2. This might be a close approximation, but we'll address several positions in FA with average players and then pick BPA. I say that tongue in cheek because by the time we pick, there will be more than one player available at or near the same grade so we'll choose the one that addresses the greatest need. That said, clearly RT and G are big needs for us. I hope Spencer Brown will become a solid RT in a couple of years and we'll have to find a way to work him into the starting lineup, but if you think he's ready now, you aren't being realistic. I love his potential, but he still has a long way to go. Give me 2 big upgrades on the OL at RT and LG, then address NT, Edge Rusher and CB2 (Finally!). We could also use help in the form of better depth at TE2 and RB2. Upgrading the Punter position should be easy enough. I don't know what they'll do for WR2 and the slot, but I'll be severely disappointed if we use a #1 pick on a WR before the OL is addressed.
  3. McDermott is the reason that Buffalo is a destination for FA's. Before his arrival, there was a real penalty that the organization had to pay to get good FA's to sign with a perennial loser. Now we are set for the forseeable future and you want to blow it up and start over? No thanks.
  4. Good thread CSH. Josh has had a terrible fumbling problem even after pulling the ball down and running. This year he was much better though. He can still do a better job of squeezing the ball, but he's been thinking about it more, obviously. Also, fumbles come more readily when you're holding the ball up and focusing your attention downfield. Better blocking means fewer QB hits and fumbles. Now add a run game that can be dominant even in sloppy conditions and playoff games in Orchard Park become very advantageous. Heck, I'm more worried about just getting out of the AFC. The SB will be on a fast field, but if our run game is great, Josh will be even more efective with a few less pass attempts. I like that approach. Pull the safeties up and let Josh go over their heads more. I'd like an upgrade at G and RT. I like Brown a lot, but he's a project and we're in win now mode. In a year or so we could have 3 very good OT's. That's a problem I'd love to see happen. You could trade someone or slide a OT inside. Perhaps we'll acquire someone that can play C or G. I'd love to keep Feliciono as the first IOL off the bench, but at the right price.
  5. He's better than any of the G's on our current roster. His release was a mistake unless there's more to this.
  6. Remember that he spent the offseason weightlifting and adding muscle mass. He has already cut way down on the fumbles. I don't want to spend a 1st even a 2nd on a RB when we need a RDE, CB2, TE2, NT, OL and someone to challenge Davis or replace Beasley if necessary. Perhaps a FA? Moss should be traded if possible and Breida will probably be gone. Speed would be nice. I think Devin can handle the short yardage runs, but a big back would be great in the snow. That's what you want in those bad weather games. Play keepaway and wear them down. In any case, Singletary is a decent starter. In those last few weeks, only 3 other NFL RB's ran for more yards. On top of that, you can count on one hand the number of RB's that are better at picking up yards after contact.
  7. Rousseau has more than potential. In fact, he was much better by season's end than nearly all the 'experts' had predicted. We need to keep him.
  8. It all comes down to price and either way, we still need to bolster the position. I'm OK with Knox as #1, but I want a much stronger TE #2. Let's keep Knox. He's good at finding the EZ.
  9. Playcalling, the ability to hit plays that "hit 'em where they ain't." (To borrow a phrase from Ernie Nevers) is vastly underrated. I still remember a play Chan called on the 1 yard line. The defense came charging upfield and Fitz tosses this easy lob to Fred at the 1 surrounded by several OL on a middle screen. There wasn't a single defensive player on the TV screen as Fred walked into the EZ for the easiest TD of his season. Talk about getting set up! It's just too bad he fell in love with subpar QB's and incompetent DC's. He could have really used a better roster overall.
  10. If Davis hadn't had such a ridiculous game, I'd agree. Diggs was the primary reason that Davis saw so much single coverage. Allen smartly took advantage of the mismatches.
  11. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz... It'll be a good evening for a long nap.
  12. I'll never understand people that must stop and insult anyone whose thread they aren't interested in. Allow me to enlighten you NewEra. If you come across a thread that does not interest you for any reason, simply move on to the next thread. You know? Like a grown up.
  13. My thought was that we could move someone inside, but you're right about the need for the IOL. I just wonder how much to expect in 1 offseason. WR is also a need. I can't say I disagree there either.
  14. These would be my offseason priorities. 1. Big upgrade at RT: I admire the effort by Spencer Brown and he may well have a bright future, but we're in win now mode and he still needs a lot of polishing. 2 probowl OT's would make the whole offense run more smoothly. If, in the mean time, Brown becomes one of our top 5 OL, great. Those are the problems coaches like. I'd have placed the DL as priority 1, but we've already invested in young talent there and Harry is starting to come around. 2. CB2: I commend Dane Jackson for how well he's held up, but he should really be our CB4 with Wallace as CB3. We probably can't afford another CB at White's level of proficiency, but someone halfway between White and Wallace would really help. Besides, White may not be back in 2022 if he needs the full 14 months to recover. 3. Power RB: If we're not building a dome, we need a tank at RB that can go toe to toe with, Henry, Mixon, Taylor in sloppy, cold weather. Stats show that in treacherous footing, heavier, stronger backs run relatively better than lighter, shiftier backs. I've kinda given up on Moss. He can play, but he can't handle that kind of load and generate the results we need. This would also help when Josh is having a bad game. Let the run game take some of the weight and give Josh a chance to ease back into the game with more play action and easier completions. Keep Singletary as RB2. 4.TE Depth: Dawson Knox has made big strides, but he's still not elite. Getting another good TE would be nice, especially if he's a decent run blocker as well as a proficient receiver. Sweeny may not even be around very long. 5. NT: With Harry's ascent, this becomes less urgent, but Phillips still has a long way to go. Star was overpaid. Time to upgrade and move on. Harry's not a true NT. We also don't really know where his ceiling is. We still need a decent true NT for those pound n' ground slugfests in high winds and snow. WR: Sanders and Beasley have been on a bit of a decline lately. Are Davis, McKenzie and Stevenson the answer or do we need more competition? ...And then there's Tremaine Edmunds and Jerry Hughes. ...Oh and get a darn Punter!
  15. I think Brian Flores will soon be showing the Dolphins the error of their ways. They should just trade Tua and try their luck again at QB, not fire a good coach. I think it will be a while before they mount a serious threat. I think he'll be looking for a team with a good, young QB next time.
  16. I'm not even sure what the right price is for him, but we'd be so hard to stop and we wouldn't just have to rely on Josh.
  17. I was guilty of giving up on Phillips too. I'm glad I was wrong. He's not all world just yet, but he's still on an upward trend. Same for Oliver. Now we need a couple young DE's to step up. I think Basham has a long career ahead of him. He can play. I just don't know what his ceiling is. Rousseau's pass rush needs a lot of work still, but he's still a rookie.
  18. Some of my favorites have already been buried, but Robert James still leads my list. Fred is #2.
  19. Run D - D - Allowed nearly 150 yards, but did enough and had enough timely stops to effect the outcome in our favor. Pass D - B+ - I'm kinda surprised that our pass defense is holding up so well without our best DB or any elite pass rushers. Overall - C - We really need to add a pure NT of considerable ability and work ethic. LB's must stop overrunning plays.
  20. I'm warming up to the idea of signing or drafting an elite RB, but I still like Singletary. I love his energy in recent games. Something lit a fire under him. There have been recent games where his numbers haven't looked great, but his efforts were key to winning. Let's help both the passing and run games and make a big splash this coming offseason at OT, DT, then improve depth at CB and TE.
  21. Obada has 2 sacks and 2 TFL. On offense, I think Singletary was a good choice. Honorable mention to Williams.
  22. RIP! The '64-'65 champions are dying off. Sad. They were my first team and still are. I was just 8 when they won that first one in '64.
