Rd 5, Pick 148 (5): WR Khalil Shakir, Boise St
GreggTX replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
Love this pick. His 3-Cone was dissappointing so I wonder if he can shake free of NFL CB's. The hands and leaping ability are elite. Decent speed too. He was successful in the slot so maybe that 3-Cone time (7.28 sec.) was a fluke. His 1st vertical was 34.5. He then jumped to 38.5. That's some serious air for a 6'0" guy. If he can be a decent route runner, he could have a very high ceiling. I also expect Davis to flourish with more snaps. -
If any of these UDFA OL are any good, they have a real shot at this roster. We have 3 solid OL on the roster (Dawkins, Saffold & Morse) but after that, nothing much to speak of. The talent level drops off precipitously. If any of those top 3 OL go down, things could get really ugly. I figure at least 1 or 2 rookie OL can make the final 53.

Poll: How would you grade the Bills overall draft?
GreggTX replied to Lost's topic in The Stadium Wall
Good picks, but I just don't get the lack of attention to the OL. C, LG and LT starters are solid, but there's a HUGE dropoff after that. I sure hope Beane has another trick up his sleeve. I was decidedly underwhelmed by the Quessenberry signing. Great story, but still a backup caliber player. I sure hope Brown takes a gargantuan leap this year. Kromer really needs to earn his keep this Summer. -
Rd 6 pick 185 (6): CB Christian Benford, Villanova

Another day 3 pick that should make the roster. White, Elam and Johnson are solid, but after that, the cupboard is bare. All he has to do is show up LOL. -
Round 6 Pick 209 (31): OT Luke Tenuta, Virginia Tech
GreggTX replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall
This guy makes the roster. The right side of our OL is a mess and the depth is nothing special either. If he's any good AT ALL I don't see how he can miss. There's no competition. -
Rd 2, Pick 63 (31): RB James Cook, Georgia

This guy could have been taken in the 4th round. That was a long reach. -
Rd 2, Pick 63 (31): RB James Cook, Georgia

I don't see how this pick helps us. I guess we're just going to run left all year. Maybe we have a big trade coming to upgrade the right side of our OL. Beane just has the worst luck in round 2. Well, I guess we have a good depth RB. He'll be an ok 3rd down back, but I hope he won't be taking carries away from Singletary or this will be a wasted pick. I was hoping for someone that could upgrade a starting position in round 2. Oh well.- 786 replies

G or OT please. I won't cry if Beane likes someone else, but a 2nd round talent at WR, RB or TE isn't going to help us much. A solid OL on the right side fills a huge need, but I don't know the value of the remaining players. I just know that even an average starter at RG or RT helps Josh a LOT. I don't want to see a player in round 2 that isn't a noticeable upgrade over the current starter. A solid RG/RT combo would leave this team with no real weak spots other than a couple depth positions.

Sanity prevails. Excellent speed too. I read that he needs a little coaching up, but he's coming to DB University. Elite athletic skills. Now OL and RB and a WR on day, I hope. I predict we draft a punter on day 3. We also need a Sam LB, but that's not urgent. I was expecting Booth, but I trust OBD on this pick.

Well there's a good chance that our 1st round pick will be a CB or OL, but I agree that he'll want to sign a capable vet sooner rather than later. The cupboard is bare if Trae isn't ready and I don't want him to be rushed and risk a setback. 2 studs at outside CB with an improved rush would make this D a LOT better. They play great against bad QB's, but that won't help us in the playoffs -- especially in the AFC. Now if they'd only bring back the bump and run.
-
M'eh. OK. I don't know why anyone thinks he's very good. He's above average, but nothing special. His level of play has been slightly above average since day 1. I think this is what he'll be for years to come if he stays healthy.
-
We simply must add a couple outside CB's, but I'd still be OK with a G or OT for the right side of the OL at 25. A better OL would be the 1 thing that would help Josh the most given last year's performance. Josh in a clean pocket gives us our best shot at the Lombardi Trophy.CB or OL. Last year our biggest need was DE and we took DE's with our top 2 picks. Somehow that was twisted into proof that Beane doesn't draft for need.
-
We are in BIG trouble if we go WR/RB in this draft. I don't want to see us take either position on day 1 or day 2. Beane didn't address OL until round 3 last year and we paid a big price. I hope sanity prevails.

Haden is finished. Fuller would be nice, but I don't know where we'll get the money. If Bouye could stay healthy, he'd be quite good. His recent injuries might make him affordable on a 1 year deal. IF he can stay healthy. The right side of our OL is really bad. Saffold is an average pass protector. I don't understand why some people don't understand that. Josh Allen under pressure is much worse than Josh Allen in a clean pocket. According to One Bills Live, his passing efficiency rating was 30 points higher in a clean pocket. That was the biggest difference among starting QB's last year. Granted, Quesenberry is better than either Bates or Brown, but he's still just a typical backup OL. If we don't address this effectively it will cost us dearly as in 2-4 wins less. I'm going to hope the Bills make a bold move in this draft to address CB and RG with 2 worthy day 1 starters.

The Lamonica trade was symptomatic of the malaise the Bills franchise has suffered for most of its existence. He wasn't good enough for us, but immediately upon his arrival in Oakland, he took the Raiders to the SB. I don't even know what we got in return, but that had to be our worst trade ever. He was clearly better than Jack Kemp too. It was 6 preseason games and 14 regular season games.

Bills Sign former Titan OT/OG David Quessenberry
GreggTX replied to MAJBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall
He's a backup at best, but still better than either Bates or Brown. Still, we need big upgrades at RG and RT. -
Joe Haden should retire. He's still way better than Dane Jackson, but I don't care if neither of them play for us. This just shows how bad our CB situation really is. The right side of our OL is just as bad. I don't see how we can say we are approaching this draft without needs. A WR, LB, TE, DT or RB at 25 is a mistake that will cost us. I'd trade a 3rd for Bradberry in a heartbeat, but can we afford him? Does Beane have that much magic? I'll be singing his praises if he pulls that move off.

I can't believe he isn't there already. The guy was on the All-Time AFL 1st team. He was phenomenal.

New Bills stadium deal is bad for taxpayers, according to Yahoo!
GreggTX replied to JPL7's topic in The Stadium Wall
All stadium deals are bad for the taxpayers. Billionaires avoid taxes then make the taxpayers foot the bill. That's money better spent for greater needs. Nothing new about this. -
A 5 time probowler to fill our gaping hole at CB would have been a real difference maker. Our odds took a hit when he signed with Indy. Oh well. We'd better get that CB position figured out quickly. As it stands right now, our CB corps is going to cost us a few victories. We won't be able to enter this draft with BPA in mind when we have such a big need at this important position. Also, if the coverage is poor, that gives the pass rushers less time to get home. We also must do more for the right side of the OL if we want Josh to continue playing at a very high level.

Are boneless wings with ranch the best game day dish?

No. Do you know what they put in those things? Ugh! I won't eat them if they don't have bones. -
Buffalo Bills roster - Ascending, descending, shocking, packing
GreggTX replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
Ascending: Rousseau, Basham. I like them both. Gabriel Davis for sure. I think Howard could have his best season yet if he's healthy. We could see a lot of 2 TE formations in '22. Hopefully Spencer Brown will take a huge step this year because he's got a long way to go. He will need help protecting Allen from our TE's, RB's or FB. That limits our options on offense. Singletary was playing the best ball in his career at season's end. His fumbling wasn't an issue either. He'll never be great, but the biggest problem with our run game was the blocking. Everyone is writing off Moss. He can be a solid #2 if the right side of the OL is upgraded considerably. Both Moss and Singletary payed the price for a weak OL as well as Josh. I think Bass is 1 game winning FG away from greater recognition. Also, Gilliam isn't special, but he's still one of the better FB's in the league. Stuck in neutral: Oliver, Edmunds. Edmunds has reached his peak. He doesn't have elite instincts and he's a so-so tackler. Oliver is decent, but hasn't shown significant improvement even if a few people talked about him taking a big step last year. Neither is a bust, but they aren't what I was hoping for. Descending: I am not a fan of Bates or Boettger. They're just OK as backups, but both could be easily replaced. I hope neither one has to play in '22. Dane Jackson will make the roster, but if we add a couple CB's in the draft, he'll be riding the pine nearly all year. Shocking: No one. Packing: Ford. He actually played OK last year in limited snaps, but the die has been cast. He will be replaced in the draft on day 1 or 2. Sweeney may get the axe too. Same with Jerry Hughes and that will be a tough one for the fans. After all, he's been here the longest. Haak is gone.
