I like Foles as a bridge option, but my fear is those picks are too much to give up for this team. Not that it's too high of a price to pay, it's just that I think the Bills want to trade up to get their guy. That alone will be extremely expensive, especially if we try to get to the top 2 or 3. If you give up picks for Foles as well, you come out of the draft with two quarterbacks and pretty much nothing else.

Who makes the big jump in year 2?
ColdFront_USAF replied to GreggTX's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As funny as this is with him not being a player, he might actually be the most improved 2nd year Bill. If we can get a franchise passer, or even a mid level starter that is willing to actually throw the ball, this could completely change the way he coaches games. That insanely conservative style that had everyone mad at times was probably the only way he could see us winning games with the personnel we had on offense. A better qb would completely change what we could do as a team and I think McD would take full advantage. -
I get where you're coming from. I just think we've all done stupid **** as kids. Most of us we're lucky enough not to have the media constantly interested in the stuff we do and I'd be willing to bet nobody on this message board was ever THE most popular person on a huge college campus. It doesn't surprise me that every now and then these kids do something stupid and we all hear about it because the whole world is interested.

Agreed it's a possibility, but what exactly would they be smoke screening for? They have the second pick, they could literally draft any player in the entire draft except for one of them. The only thing I could think of would be convincing the Browns to hold off and pick their qb at 4, so maybe the Giants could have their pick of the litter.

Unlike some years, there's not much to talk about now
ColdFront_USAF replied to Shaw66's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I like the quiet, it's a lot better than debating head coaches and patiently waiting for the incumbent regime to be shown the door. I think the issue is that the rest of our offseason depends on who we target at quarterback. If we land Cousins, free agency is all but over and we can't afford to land any splash players. We also probably won't move up in the draft and can check off that box. If we get a bridge qb like Bradford, now we can afford one or two bigger names in FA, and the trade up scenarios will go crazy. There's simply too many questions right now to really speculate, we will just have to be patient. -
I think there's a chance he falls out of the top 6 (past the Jets) depending on who gets Cousins. I don't know if he falls much further than that, but if he's there around pick 10 I would be more than comfortable sending both of our firsts to jump up and grab him. Shouldn't need to add too much more than picks 21 and 22 to get up there.

I wish you were right, but I can't see how that happens. Drafting before us, the Browns, Giants, Broncos, Jets, and Cardinals are likely drafting qbs. That's 5 teams right there. There's also the questionable teams, like the Colts if they move on from Luck, and I wouldn't be entirely shocked to see the Dolphins grab one, or the Redskins to have someone to groom behind Smith. One team will get Cousins, and if the Colts decide to move Luck someone would grab him. Thats potentially 6-7 teams. Obviously I don't think there will be 7 qbs taken in the first round, but the lowest I've seen Mayfield ranked is 4th, behind Darnald Rosen and Allen. If even half of qb needy teams take one, Mayfield will absolutely be gone before 21.

Draft Wire Full 7 Rd Mock
ColdFront_USAF replied to Chris from Rochester's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is my problem with this years qb class. There doesn't seem to be a single analyst or armchair GM that ranks them the same as any other analyst. One guy on CBS has Rudolph as the top qb, rated the 10th overall prospect. Some have him going day 3. Some have Allen as a late first round guy. Kiper has him going first overal to the Browns. The true value of these guys is anyone's guess, and I don't know how anyone that hasn't spent extensive time studying film (with the necessary knowledge to adequately analyze them) could definitively say where in the draft they should be taken. -
Tyrod wants to “Continue to be accurate..”
ColdFront_USAF replied to stevestojan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Finally someone gets it. He knows he's likely gone without taking a pay cut, which he probably won't do, so he isn't going to go on tv and broadcast his weaknesses. I dont believe TT is a franchise qb, but the man has had to sit and watch guys like Osweiller get paid to be much worse. I can't blame him for trying to get a big contract from whatever team thinks they can turn him into a top 10 guy. Knowing the egos of NFL coaches, I'm sure there are at least a few that think they can do it, and in all likelihood someone will probably try. -
It really depends on the new regime for the NYG and how they feel about Manning's chances of sustaining success for several more years. Using Brees or Brady as an example is tough, because Manning has never in his career been at their level, at least not consistently. Not to mention, if they do see themselves succeeding with Eli, they likely aren't going to be picking top 2 again for a very long time, and the likelihood of it occurring in a class stacked with talented qb prospects is even less. They really might want to take advantage. And as much as the Giants hate the Jets, it would probably be better for them as a team to trade with them instead of us. They would collect a good amount of draft captal and still have a top 10 pick.

Well, the Browns have 1 and 4 overall, and more holes in the roster than any other team. Let's assume they get their qb at #1, the giants take whoever they don't take (Rosen or Darnold), and the Colts take Barkley, the consensus best player in the draft. What do you do if you're the Browns? Sure you could take the BPA, which would probably be a tackle or edge rusher. Add one more big piece. Or, you could trade down since you already have your QB, take what would probably be a kings ransom for your pick, and put probably 3 more impact players on the team, likely another in next years draft. Flip that to the Bills, and you could see why this is possible. If someone told you we could draft the best qb available in this draft without trading a pick, and then leave the draft with 2 more firsts, another high pick, and a high pick in 2019 I think every fan would be on board.

Why doesn't the NFL change Defensive PI to 15 yards?

I really like this idea on paper, but these officials can't even handle the rule book they already have. Frankly I don't think anyone could given it's complexity. -
Todd Haley for Offensive Coordinator?
ColdFront_USAF replied to ColdFront_USAF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good points, that's why I asked! To be honest I know very little about him as an OC, besides the fact that the Steelers offense is one of the best in the league. But yeah, can't be too hard with the talent they have there. -
Todd Haley for Offensive Coordinator?
ColdFront_USAF replied to ColdFront_USAF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Done! My bad, I didn't really think about how misleading that was until you pointed it out. Sorry for the scare! -
At this point this is nothing more than a rumor, but it's been said that Haley will likely be moving on from the Steelers this offseason. Is he a guy you would like to see in consideration for our OC position? I don't know much about his style compared to what McBeane is looking for, but Big Ben certainly did improve after he took over for Arians in 2012.

Depends what they want and who's available. Barkley is probably the best player in the draft, and will be available to them if the Browns and Giants both take a quarterback with the first 2 picks. They could also take the top tackle in Connor Williams, a consensus top 5 player that fits a massive need for them, especially if Luck can make a return. Might be hard to sway them to drop back almost 20 spots and miss out on both of those guys.

Sort of 3, if you count the game winning drive against the Texans. Cooks caught a TD pass to cap off the drive that was exactly the same catch as the TD they overturned for the Steelers. If I'm not mistaken he caught it, toe tapped in the end zone and then dropped it on the way to the ground, so it did not "survive the ground". Refs magically got the call right when the Steelers did it, after incorrectly overturning a Jets game winning TD and calling one back on a bs OPI call against the Chargers, as well as overturning Benjamins catch for no good reason. At least KBs mystery overturn was before the half, and not at the end of the game. Ive said it before and I'll say it again, the '17 Cheats are the worst 13-3 football team I've seen in my over 20 years of being around the sport. Should have been 10-6, easily could have been 9-7/8-8 with proper officiating.

Article from Yahoo Sports on Mayfield
ColdFront_USAF replied to DefenseWins's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They definitely could go either way, agreed. That's why I'll be watching them closely during the offseason. If they don't sign someone we would have to trade with the Colts to get a top qb. -

Im not saying that will happen. It was just an example. The point was that Denver IMO is more likely to go the veteran route at qb, which would make them a potential trade target. The semantics of who they trade for what qb or what they pay someone in free agency is irrelevant. -

Maybe if he could take some draft picks or talent away from them in exchange for a quarterback that he knows how to beat better than anybody in football. Sounds like a good deal to me if Mahomes is ready. Take some picks from Denver and make game planning for them a lot easier. -
Agreed, but I still think qb is more of an issue. If we trade up to get our guy at qb, we will probably have to wait until the next draft to land a top wide receiver. Besides, I think the separation stat posted earlier has a lot to do with TT not being a good timing guy, and that caused our WRs to get covered as the windows closed by the time he threw.
