  1. I fear this is going to be exposed in a major way starting this week in Carolina. Better defenses are going to shut down McCoy and the running game and invite Taylor to make a play against them. The problem is though he can't as demonstrated throughout the last few years. And in his defense though this is the worse group of WR's he's had since being in Buffalo which also doesn't bode well for him.
  2. I simply don't agree. And that's another point, the Bills chose to be content towards the end and sat on their 9 point lead which is similar to what happened to the Raiders last year after they came back from a double digit deficit and still beat us handily. Obviously the Jets weren't the Raiders but if we continue to play that way it will come back to haunt us should we be in position to beat a much better team. You need a killer instinct in the NFL and we certainly didn't have that against the Jets. And speaking of the Raiders, since they play the Jets at home this week that will be another good gauge compared to what we did to the Jets. Because if the Jets are also competitive against them for most of the game that might just mean the Bills are a good team and the Jets aren't as bad as most think. But I tend to believe the Raiders are going to destroy them and the game will be over by mid 2nd quarter at the latest which will also be telling depending on what happens with us against the Panthers.
  3. They were lit up but Alex Smith and the Chiefs so no surprise there. However this is a the perfect case of reading too much into misleading stats after week one, because if there's one thing I'm sure of it's that a Bill Belichik defense isn't going to finish dead last in the NFL after a 16 game NFL season. Guarantee they are no worse than top 15 in yards allowed. Same deal with the Bills, would love to see a top 5 defense but that's likely not going to be the case as we start to face better teams and QB's in the coming weeks.
  4. Let's see what Taylor does against a real team and defense on the road this week. Not trying to be negative but I suspect he's going to struggle big time especially if the running game doesn't have the type of game they did against the Jets. At some point Taylor supports are going to need to accept he's not a viable long term option for this franchise.
  5. If so that's a big blow to this team. Gaines has actually looked good and PFF had him rated as the #1 DB after preseason was completed.
  6. I don't think the Panthers are close to that 2015 roster unless Newton returns to that form. But still think they are far more talented across the board compared to the Bills roster which is to be expected since they really aren't in or close to a full blown rebuild like the Bills. Vegas nailed the Bills/Jets in week one with a 9 point spread and they will likely be close in this one too. I don't think the Bills lose in a blowout but the Panthers should be a TD better at home which should be close to the margin of victory.
  7. I wish we played in a division of like the AFC South because the playoffs would be a real possibility even during a transition/rebuilding type of season like the Bills are in the midst of.
  8. Bills will be dumpster diving all year which is typical for rebuilding teams but I hope these aren't players they are looking at for the active roster.
  9. Even if we were to somehow start 5-1 or 4-0 it would be no different than 2008/2011 unless we sustain it over the course of a 16 game season and actually make the playoffs. Remember this team dominated the Colts in week one of 2015 in Rex Ryan's first game and everybody thought we were a lock for the playoffs because the Colts were a playoff team with a franchise QB. Beating the Jets with Josh McNown is a far cry from that and we didn't really dominate them.
  10. They are 2 years removed from one of the most dominating seasons ever that resulted in a SB appearance. That team from 2015 was very 90 Bills like especially how they dominated the NFC playoffs. Yes Newton isn't 100% but he don't need to be with defense the Panthers had and nobody can argue their week 1 performance was much more impressive considering they won by 20 points on the road against a team on the same level of the Jets, if not better than them. We can keep this game close if we go after Newton and he struggles but actually winning is a different story.
  11. I would feel a lot more comfortable with these numbers if we would have beat the Jets by 17+ points but something still feels off since the game was very close into the 4th quarter. Bills cannot leave points on the field to have any chance of winning in Carolina.
  12. It was great to take care of business and beat a team that many expect to land the #1 overall pick in next years draft. But the next three weeks will essentially determine this teams fate for the rest of the season. On paper the Bills should lose against the Panthers, Broncos and Falcons which would translate into a 1-3 record. But thankfully the games aren't played on paper. And as of right now I still think the Panthers and Falcons are guaranteed losses by default since they both road games against vastly superior teams and QB's. Denver looked pretty good last night but it was at home and I don't think Simian is anywhere close to the type of QB's Newton and Ryan are. Still thinking 2-2 is best case which would ensure the season isn't lost by Halloween, but if we do lose all 3 then it's time to start thinking about the bills own chances of landing the #1 overall pick next year.
  13. Will be interesting to see if this team still plays hard for McDermott later in the year as the losses mount and we are eliminated from the playoffs.
  14. It's one game against a pathetic team that will probably finish with one of the worst rushing offenses in the NFL. With that said, Lawson is a guy that needs to emerge for this defense to be what McDermott and Beane envision long term.
  15. If Dareus don't earn his $100 million contract this year he never will. And next week is a golden opportunity against an elite QB who is currently not firing on all cylinders.
  16. Yet the Panthers still won by 20 points on the road against a team that is possibly marginally better than the Jets, at worse on the same level. I know the koolaid is flowing strong because it's only the 2nd week of September but there is a good chance we get blown off the field by the Panthers even without Newton playing close to the elite level he can.
  17. This was the same team we've seen the last few years other than a better rush defense. We still don't have an NFL caliber QB and passing game with Taylor starting which is what you need to make the playoffs and actually win games there. The only thing that excites me about this season is the prospect of seeing Peterman start at some point later this year.
  18. Only chance the Bills have in this game is if Newton continues to struggle and the defense can create multiple turnovers. If not we will likely lose by 14+ points similar to what the Panthers beat the 49ers by. Also the whole idea that McDermott and Beane give us an advantage is somewhat overblown and I've never given much credence to coaches playing against their former teams being more motivated or being able to craft some sort of 'inside' game plan against them.
  19. I actually wouldn't doubt this is true, but if not this pass rush wasn't that great against a team it should have dominated. McDermott and Frasier no doubt will blitz like crazy against Newton who did not look good at all against the 49ers and still nowhere close to being at full strength because that's the only chance we have of winning this game in Carolina.
  20. Fans aren't idiots because they realize the Bills had the best possible match up to start the season in a Jets team widely viewed as the worst team in the NFL fully capable of going 0-16 this year. But on a positive note, yes it was great to see McDermott get off to a good start and hopefully be able to build on this. But make no mistake about it, the real 2017 season begins next week in Carolina and I suspect this team is going to look much different against a vastly superior team, coach, QB, etc on the road.
  21. I know the Bucs haven't played yet but I still think that they are going to be a top 10 team this year and might be in the same class as the Raiders in terms of QB/offense so it won't be an easy game. One thing is for sure though this team needs to start being more dominant at home and yesterday's game should raise concern because the Jets kept it way too close for far to long. If this team somehow manages to be 4-4 or 5-3 at the midway point it will be because they've stayed healthy and vastly overachieved.
  22. If yesterday wasn't a mirage the Jags are definitely going to be a dark horse team this year with that defense. And they play the Titans at home this week who are the only real threat to them in that division. I still think it's kind of weird that Marrone has had such good defenses in the NFL when he was supposed to be an offensive guru but his coaching style seems to work regardless.
  23. Panthers win on the road against another bottom feeder team was much more impressive than what we did at home against the Jets. And Newton played like trash for the most part which is telling, but Panthers defense certainly looked great and we aren't going to do what we did to the Jets to them in terms of running the ball so the passing game will need to be much better. This game will be the true barometer of what to expect from the Bills this season.
  24. I'm still not sure what to make of this team but all they did yesterday is beat a team everybody expected them to and it was probably a little more closer than it should have been. The Bills are early 8.5 underdogs next week in Carolina which indicates most experts expect the Panthers to beat us fairly easy similar to what was expected with us against the Jets. If we can win this game or lose a close one it will likely be a positive indication that this team might not be in the running for a top 5 draft pick but until then I still think that might be the case in terms of the 2017 Bills fate.
  25. Taylor looked like the same QB he has always been, but I have no issues with his play yesterday and the INT wasn't really his fault. He was more than good enough to beat a hapless Jets team. But something tells me his glaring flaws and deficiencies will be on full display next week in Carolina against a much better team and defense.
