Rex Ryan had nothing to do with it. In fact this team had the same effort tonight that last year's Anthony Lynn/EJ Manuel one did against the Jets in the season finale. This team simply isn't good on the road or against division teams which is why we likely aren't going to the playoffs for the 18th straight season after another misleading start.

2011 certainly looms large because we were also 5-2 before being destroyed by the Jets in the first of 7 straight losses. Regardless this team has been trash in division play going 3-7 in the last 10 games. We aren't winning a wildcard if we can't even break even in division games and don't look like that will be the case this year with 4 games left against the pats and dolphins who were both playoff teams last year.

Major concerns loom large going forward

We didn't get blown out 40-0 but it was essentially the same type of loss. So I hope all the fans on here that have been telling me they suck and their season is over realize the same might be true about the Bills now as well. Regardless I said all along playoff teams have these type of games and Dolphins were one last year. Not saying we are one but if we can't beat the Jets how on earth are we beating the Dolphins or Pats? -

No matter what anybody thinks the season is on the line next week against the Saints. Because another loss and this team comes unhinged at 5-4 heading into 2 straight road games and then the Pats at home right after. And even if we upset the Saints and get to 6-3 we could still very well lose the next 3 in a row. This is why this game was absolutely critical to get to 6-2 and have a real cushion heading into the next month but sadly this team showed their true colors and played absolutely SMALL when they needed LARGE on the national stage. -

Might happen sadly and once again I fell hook line and sinker for this teams facade. Assuming we were going to win tonight I picked us to finish 10-6 with wins against the Jets, Saints, @KC, IND and @MIA. But after tonight we are definitely not winning another division game this year and I don't see another road win available for this team either. -
How do we not have a decent back up RB???
SaviorPeterman replied to The juice's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Other than the Carolina connection I'm perplexed as to what McD and this team sees in Tolbert. The guy has never been anything more than a short yardage type of back in his career yet we are giving him valuable carries at crucial times this season and rarely is he doing much with them. If this team does crash and burn down the stretch not having a Gillislee or Karlos Williams type of back is going to be the reason why. -
And by loom large, i mean LOOM LARGE: - Bills are 3 and 7 in their last 10 division games. Obviously this needs to change in a hurry if this team ever wants to seriously contend for a division title, let alone a wildcard spot. - Bills are 1-3 on the road this year including losses to two teams with a sub .500 record right now in the Jets and Bengals. If you can't beat teams like this on the road it's not a promising sign with games left @KC @ NE @ MIA & @LAC - Not have a legit back up running back is one of the reasons i think this team might fade down the stretch. I've said all along I have no problem with Tolbert playing the role of grizzled veteran but we are wasting valuable carries on this guy including some at very questionable times in games where McCoy should be getting them. - 2nd half schedule is very brutal and the Bills needed this one. Going to be interested to see how we respond against a Saints game that is likely going to be riding a 6 game winning streak when we play them next week. But unless major improvements are made 10 days to prepare won't matter. - Defense, I've said all along that 1) we aren't going to get 3 turnovers every week and 2) smoke and mirrors, bend but don't break, etc will eventually catch up to this team. Both happened tonight and proved that this defense is not very good, especially when it comes to generating a pass rush. In the end a game like this was coming, just like what happened with the Dolphins last week all teams have a bad loss at some point even if they are considered a contender. The question for the Bills though is what does this do psychologically because in 2011 after our last 5-2 start we also were dominated by the Jets and went on to lose 7 straight games. Not saying that is going to happen this time but the upcoming schedule is certainly not in our favor.

Gameday Thread Bills @ Jets 2nd Half
SaviorPeterman replied to Chandler#81's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's one thing if we would have loss a close game, but to go on the road on national TV and get dominated and embarrassed by a 3-5 football team who has lost 3 games in a row speaks volumes about how much of a pretender the Bills truly are. -

Bottom line, if you can't go on the road and beat teams like the Bengals and Jets, you certainly aren't going to win against the Chiefs, Chargers, Pats and Dolphins in their buildings. I've said all along this defense is not very good despite the turnovers which mostly have been lucky bounces in most cases. Regardless this type of game was coming as is reality for the Bills. -

2008 and 2011 Bills, as soon as we played the Jets we had an epic collapse to the season. 2017 Bills...hold my beer. -
Deshaun Watson tore his ACL in practice
SaviorPeterman replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think they were the favorite anyway but it's good for us because Dareus pick automatically turns into a 5th rounder. Plus if we finish with the #5 or #6 seed (which I think is happening because we aren't catching the Pats for the division) a trip to Jacksoville would loom LARGE facing St. Doug in the 1st round of the playoffs. -
Pundits and so called experts are split on this team, and even if we win tonight many 'pretender' and 'overrated' labels will continue because the Jets are very good. That's why the second half the season looms LARGE for this team with games against powerhouses and serious contenders like the Saints, Chiefs, Pats and Dolphins.

Wow terrible news and crazy when these injuries happen in practice or non contact. In any event AFC South now down to Jags vs Ttians with the runner up not likely getting into the playoffs as a wildcard due to records. -
Yes but that wasn't a division matchup if that's what your implying. But Chiefs are one of the teams that have gone 5-3 in road TNF matchups so far this season.

They are certainly going to be in the running for a QB in next years draft which is shaping up to be pretty deep at the QB position. -
Good news for the Bills because on paper the Colts game is the only 'easy' game left. But it could have been totally different with Luck playing but this is a smart move by Indy since their season is pretty much toast now anyway.

It's not that I feel the Dolphins offense is a juggernaut (it's not), but the their comebacks this year have been LARGE considering the circumstances (down 17-0 @ ATL and down 28-14 against the Jets, they also came from behind to beat the Chargers on the road). Either way it's time for some here on this forum to move on from the unhealthy obsession with the Dolphins. I get they are also a hated division rival especially after they swept us again last year but let's worry about them come December assuming the matchups are even relevant for both teams at the time. I'll say this though, if we can't beat the Jets on the road tonight it certainly doesn't bode well for our chances against much better division teams in Mia and NE, home or on the road.
-
Actually road teams are 5-3 so far this year in TNF games. Ironically though in the 3 home wins on TNF, 2 of them were division games (Raiders over Chiefs and Packers over Bears). The only TNF game where a road team won in a division game was the wild week 3 game with the Rams winning at San Fran. Definitely concerns with tonight's game but this is the point of the season where you start to see true separation and all the ingredients are in place for the Bills to dismantle a reeling Jets team that has lost 3 straight.

Of course but this is still a league in which true franchise QB's are few and far between. I guess the crux of my argument is most other teams would have stuck with Simeon, at least the rest of this year. Just don't understand the mindset of making the change they did because Osweiler has proven to be terrible with multiple teams now. Just shows how desperate some teams truly are for a spark midseason. -
Secondary is fine, although I think the jury is still out on Gaines simply because he can't stay healthy so we have to make a decision on resigning him or replacing him. But the front seven still needs work. This might be KW last season and even if it's not we need a true beast in the middle of the line since Dareus obviously wasn't going to be that guy here. Lawson has been solid in run defense but doesn't appear to be a disruptive force as a pass rusher. LB though is the main issue, while Zo Alexander is still solid as a pass rusher hes' no spring chicken and we need a better coverage guy. Milano has shown flashes but appears to have an uphill battle with Humber apparently getting back his starting gig. Humber is also not the long term answer. Overall depth has not been terrible but let's not kid ourselves into thinking this defense is set and McD has no areas of concerns going forward.
-
Classic bulletin board material. I actually think we can have tremendous success against the Jets secondary tonight if we choose to open up the playbook and come out aggressive throwing the ball downfield. But we should be able to have success on the ground regardless, oline has been LARGE in recent weeks.

They are not content with a guy like Simeon even though his metrics haven't been terrible since he's been the starter there the last few years. They also drafted Paxton Lynch with a high draft pick but he hasn't been good enough to start for various reasons. But this is no surprise for a franchise that has seen all time greats like Elway and Manning win championships there. -
This is what makes me truly believe McD is finally the right coach for this team. He's working wonders so far with a roster that is still devoid of big time playmakers and quality depth, at least on the defensive side of the ball. So assuming a big time talent infusion with all the picks we have in next years draft and the sky is the limit especially if we can land a big time LB, DT and pass rusher to go with what we already have.
