Bills' Situation Reminds me of Atlanta
HomeskillitMoorman replied to Back2Buff's topic in The Stadium Wall
I agree about McD being problematic…but 17 is too good to let the rest happen. We’ll always be at least good while Josh is here and healthy…but whether we’ll be good enough at some point to be able to mask McD enough to take it all the way will be the question. Hopefully the answer will be yes. -
McDermott end of season press conference

I didn’t and don’t. Was offering up a suggestion in case there wasn’t a block feature, I’ve never used it so I have no idea. -

It’s ultimately just a game, but if my takes bothers you so much you can just not read them when you see my name. Have a good one bud. -

Thankfully we didn’t need McDeerInTheHeadlights to make any big decisions with the game on the line in that one. -

The whole thing was a mess. And that was after timeouts too! It’s not even like it was just total chaos with no timeouts, not that it would have been an excuse either. But this makes it even worse. -

Welp, I guess we can all be disappointed together then -

He really hasn't gotten better in 5 years, I'm not sure what's going to change now. He coached scared in last year's game in KC as well. He's still horrible with timeout usage 5 years later. He still has that deer in the headlights look in the biggest moments of the game and screwed up with the squib and the scheme late. Also 5 years in and his D can't come up with a big stop late. This is also so much about preparation. Just like his first year vs the Colts when he didn't know that a tie would have eliminated us from the playoffs and punted late, he wasn't prepared for the 4th and short decisions last year and wasn't prepared for the late situation this year. Credit to him for being part of the decision to draft #17, no doubt about that. But if we stop holding the standard to comparing this team to the teams of the drought and look at it in the sense of what can we do to maximize this time we have with an elite QB, I'd want a coach that matches the preparation and fearlessness of Josh. -

That's not what micromanaging means though. He's the head coach, he absolutely should be part of all those decisions. Micromanaging is a daily thing, like if he didn't allow the coaches any kind of freedom on a day to day basis with the players. It's his job, just like every head coach, to be part of everything on gameday. It's kind of like how I felt Pete Carroll somehow avoided the kind of vitriol Darrell Bevell did for their horrible play call in the SB against the Pats when Carroll was involved and didn't object to it. It's ultimately on the head coach for me, they're the head coach for a reason. -
Haha I'm still in Kansas City, it's worse here. I actually still had a good time though, but this one will always hurt. I don't think the path will ever line up quite like that again with this lineup of young QB's in the AFC now, but hopefully we can win it one of these years with a tougher road.

McDermott end of season press conference
HomeskillitMoorman replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
Clearly he is since he keeps saying it's an execution thing. It's like that episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm where Ted Danson is an "anonymous" donor at a charity event but everyone knows it's him because he implied it, but they're all talking about what a great guy he is because it says anonymous. -

How many chances does McDermott have left?
HomeskillitMoorman replied to Igotbills's topic in The Stadium Wall
And who was it that decided against a squib kick and went with a poor scheme for the 13 seconds? Josh left everything out there, McD didn’t. -
McDermott’s defensive timeouts have jumped the shark
HomeskillitMoorman replied to Einstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
It’s scary that McD had those timeouts, used them, and still did horrible things with that extra time. -

But the decisions all go through McD himself. I don’t really understand the desire to fire Frazier and wanting to keep McD. That makes absolutely no sense to me. If anything, McD was worse because not only was he part of the defensive scheme, he was a part of the call to kick it deep too. I would understand it a little bit more if it was an offensive playcalling issue because he’s not as initimately involved there but I don’t understand it at all when it comes to the D. -
Haha well we agree on some of that. I disagree though that some things shouldn’t be attempted to be fixed. I think we both agree with how special #17 is and what he puts in and what he gives us and leaves on the field. Literally everything. I don’t feel that way with McD. That guy does not give his team their best chance to win on game day. It’s been a problem since he got here. He is probably a good teacher of the game but he had cost us big on the biggest stages again and again. The blunders yesterday, coaching scared in last years AFC championship game, not knowing that a tie would have eliminated us vs the Colts in his first year…a lot of this is about preparation and work ethic. That’s not even getting into the depths of his awful timeout usage, horrendous history of challenges, and scheme issues late in games. This was year 5 and he still makes rookie mistakes as a HC, he really hasn’t grown and developed all that much. I think most coaches could get to the playoffs yearly with Josh. I give credit that he was part of the decision to draft him and he’s been part of developing him…but I don’t think that means we should settle moving forward. I want a coach that brings the same level of preparation and work ethic and has the fearlessness of #17. That guy is clearly not Sean McDermott.

This is probably the most accurate answer. I made the trip to KC and am still here, and as devastating as it was last night I got up this morning, got some exercise and some coffee and breakfast and talked to some locals and had a good time and it sucks to not get to celebrate and plan going to Buffalo or the Super Bowl but now I’m just planning other things. While some fans take it harder, I imagine a lot of us just get on with our lives for the most part. I mean I’m still here posting while I’m working but obviously that’ll fade since we’re out. For the players this is their everyday job. I still imagine it’s harder on them if I had to choose.

Anybody welcome the team back from the airport?
HomeskillitMoorman replied to Westside's topic in The Stadium Wall
It should be McD moreso. His soft D and bungling of in-game decisions. -

Josh and a few others deserve a Heroes welcome. McD and a few others just somehow need to be excluded from that. -

The players yes. McD I’d want to throw a sweet potato at. -
It’s amazing that people here are still defending McD after last night. After our QB put together an all-time clutch performance on the road and left his sweat and blood on the field the way he did only to see his coach bungle in-game decisions to lose it and perhaps a Superbowl. Again, we will never win big with McD here. He coaches scared, unprepared, and flat out stupid in the biggest moments and you can see it on his face with the deer in the headlights look. Josh is amazing and if you want to credit McD for being part of the process in drafting him thats fine…but what’s the point of keeping him moving forward when he’s become so detrimental to this team’s hopes of winning a Super Bowl? Last night Josh needed for McD to help orchestrate a stop or just make obvious, logical in-game decisions to lock up one of the greatest games ever. He did neither. Again. On the biggest of stages. He can not handle this type of pressure. For the Bills standard now that #17 deserves…the McD era should absolutely end.

Nice! Before angry people write back in all caps about using the search feature, here’s a link to one of the known tailgates that they’re talking about on the Kansas City Bills Backers Facebook page: https://www.gamedayhospitality.com/buffalo-revenge-game-playoff-tailgate-2022-kansas-city/

Anywhere close to midfield and further with 4th and short I think we have to go for. The net positive from punting in those situations just isn’t enough vs an offense like this, and isn’t worth giving away a potential longer drive and more points.
