  1. You could say that for a lot of GM's honestly though. Hitting on a QB is far and away the most important factor for a GM.
  2. I mean, Allen alone gives Beane a lot of leeway for other moves that haven't necessarily worked out. Not that I think he shouldn't be judged on anything else. But I still think overall even "aside from Josh", which is kind of hard to do, he's done a pretty solid job. I would agree that we haven't gotten great bang for the buck on some of the resources we've spent on D, especially high-end draft capital and I was a little perplexed we didn't do more for the o-line going into last season. All in all though I think if we're being real...this is a roster that probably should have won the title last year if not for McD's gag job in KC and we're looking pretty good to compete big this year and in the future. He's a keeper for me. EDIT: I also think he has the right temperament and approach to how to have a relationship with the franchise player which is pretty important. As both have mentioned before, they both run their opinions by each other and Beane does ask Josh for his thoughts on certain potential moves...but they have an understanding that it's ultimately Beane's call. This is obviously important given how we've seen some of the relationships between front offices and QB's have had an impact or led to trades or firings, etc.
  3. I mean most people on here won't even do it, I wouldn't expect one of his players to
  4. No, not necessarily a skeptic, but the "no matter what" part I think is what's even more bold than anything I've said. Like if he made a series of horrible moves that led to another playoff loss, you wouldn't even question if he's the right person to move forward with? My point was more that "no matter what" is basically saying there's no accountability or expectation for McD when we have an elite QB that leaves everything out there and has the ability to win a SB, multiple even. If that's the case, then yes, I think Josh's greatness is being really under appreciated or not being acknowledged. The second part you raise some solid questions. Obviously neither I or anyone here would have those answers and certainly some of those things would have to play in. Like I wouldn't want to lose Beane, for instance. There would have to be belief that a coach they possibly have in mind could be a leader for this group. I get that it's not straightforward. But I also don't think that means we should ultimately hang on to what we have "no matter what", in fear of that, if he continues to gag in these big games.
  5. This is a pretty amateur and childish response. I haven't mentioned any of those names, which just made up like 80% of your post. Manufacturing something and throwing someone in it as "people like you" or "you people" in direct response to someone who didn't say any of that is what people do in those really immature political conversations. If you look at my response, I actually read what you said and responded directly to your thoughts, I didn't create a different argument and lump you in with something you haven't said. We can agree to disagree, I'll move on to a more mature conversation.
  6. So in your eyes...the Lombardi would elevate McD's standing as a coach but not winning it with a SB caliber roster doesn't take him down any notches. Interesting. I don't see it quite that way, for me it's evaluating him regardless. If McD gags in the biggest moments for a 3rd postseason in a row but #17 bails him out and we win it all, as he almost did this past January, I don't think that elevates McD somehow. Just like if McD becomes a great in-game decision maker this season and has a great postseason but we lose for a different reason, I do think that would still elevate him. I can't agree at all that a guy that's made horrible in-game decisions in the playoffs two years in a row is a top 5 coach as it stands. But for you it seems like this only moves one way and there's really no accountability for him. We're all fans so it doesn't really matter in the end but it's just a strange philosophy to me. And yeah Allen is only 25...but these are still precious years and it is a big deal when a coach blows a great chance at a SB. I think you need at least a little bit of luck in terms of things like team health, being in the kind of zone Josh was in at the right time, etc and this postseason was one where everything had really lined up.
  7. I'm not sure the people that want McD here no matter what really appreciate how great #17 was in the playoffs and generally how great he is and can still be. I understand McD is part of the regime that brought him here...but I also know he's gagged it up in both of the last 2 playoff games vs KC. We've seen many times in sports where a team has had to move on from a coach who was part of bringing in an elite player to another coach to be able to take the next step. The coach that helped bring a team to contention isn't necessarily the right coach to move forward with. I think Josh is amazing enough that we can still win a SB with McD here...but I think it's going to be tougher and I think we'll be limited to possibly 1 title rather than a shot at a dynasty. As I've said before...it's only opinion and I have no proof as nobody does of what could have happened if not for 13 seconds...but I really believe we would've won the SB with a competent in-game coach. Unless of course he gagged in one of those games too, entirely possible. Realistically I don't think he's going anywhere unless we have a really disappointing season, it would probably be something like missing the playoffs with Josh being healthy or something drastic like that...so I'm hoping for the best.
  8. It'll always be a tough one to get over for me when it comes to McDermott. I don't know how anyone could have watched that game and the way #17 left his blood and guts out there only to have McD blow it, and they largely give him a pass for it. After he also got the pass for also coaching a horrible game the year before in KC. But that's pretty much the way it's been. It's only an opinion because we don't know what would have/could have happened next...I believe McD cost us a Super Bowl last season. And honestly, I think we'll end up with Josh winning a SB here eventually and it'll be amazing...but I'll always feel that we should have won more with the kind of caliber player he is. This coach unfortunately will probably limit our shot at some kind of dynasty.
  9. I guess everyone’s tightening their belts in this economy
  10. It does feel like we're still thin at OL. Probably CB too. But OL worries me more, I do wish we could have done more there.
  11. I honestly think Old Ralph was trolling us when he brought Jauron back for year 4. I remember him laughing on the call about it.
  12. Right. I don't think Beane would have had blinders on about what we still needed to address if we had won. The gameplan for the offseason should have been the same regardless.
  13. McD's like 50 and has been coaching for 20+ years...he had to learn to squib it there and that we didn't need to protect the sideline? That's what's scary to me...I don't think it was a learning thing, he just flat out choked in a big moment. He did it vs the Chiefs the year before too. If it's a learning thing and he didn't know any of that, I think that's pretty scary too. I still think people are actually way too easy on MCD. #17 left his blood and guts out there and our coach was unprepared and wasn't up to the task. He talks big about preparation and work ethic but I don't see that at a championship level from him. Hopefully we'll still be good enough and with JA magic we can still win it.
  14. I mean I think Beane did what he could to address it...but the biggest problem with 13 seconds was McD. That hasn't been resolved. We just have to hope another big game doesn't come down to his in-game management again.
  15. Are there any Youtube videos of him holding set to "Let The Bodies Hit The Floor" that I can watch?
  16. Their gameplan contributed to that. Also, McD has been given many years and really an abundance of resources in terms of signings and high round draft picks to build a D that can come up with a big stop or two and he simply hasn’t done the job. He hasn’t been up to that task or been able to adequately manage a big game and it’s hurt us so badly in both of the last two years.
  17. I think this is pretty accurate. He was a good coach for where we were when he came on board in terms of helping to build the culture. I do. think he's a liability for us now though in terms of game management and I'm terrified of having anything come down to his call/strategy in a big game. It's just an opinion because we'll never know for sure...but I'll probably always believe he cost us a Super Bowl this season. Not even just the 13 seconds, but I thought we really got conservative in the 1st half of that game But sometimes with a great player like #17 leading the way, you can overcome those liabilities and still win it all, and I'm just hoping we can do that.
  18. Honestly, I don't know what the right answer for any of this is. I don't necessarily like the idea of people being "forced" into positions...but on the other side I don't see how people think absolutely nothing is wrong and there isn't any kind of bias whatsoever when we literally have what, 2 black head coaches in the entire league?
  19. Bring back Bates! We need the production and depth on the o-line.
  20. Do no NFC teams want to win? There's such a great opportunity for a dark horse to make a SB run in that conference and it's like none of those teams want to land any impact players.
  21. I'll believe it when I see it. I still think there's some posturing here.
