It's not necessarily that some of us think the Bengals are a dominant force that can't be beat...it's that we know we have an incompetent head coach that generally is not up to the challenge in big games.
-
Yea. He had a lot more experience than him and still lost to him in the train fight. Not sure about this move.

Inspiring!

Was this the dude that was chirping at Allen during the game last year and actually kind of got in his head?

Bears CB Jaylon Johnson Requests to be Traded

It's strange that some of you think Elam helps this trade. I see it more like the part in Half Baked when the dude offers to pay even less for a Kenny Loggins album when the woman says he signed it himself. -
Best Bills Cornerback of all time?
HomeskillitMoorman replied to GerstAusGosheim's topic in The Stadium Wall
T-McGee! One of my fav all-time Bills. I think people are still underestimating his length -
I liked Sal back in his Justin.TV days…and he’s probably a good guy…but the dude is a total homer now. I’m not sure how anyone could deny that. Weird call from that dude though. But I used to listen to WFAN…people that stupid really do exist.

DeSantis For President in 2024?

We probably disagree on most things political…but we for sure agree here. If you do the same exact thing you rail against…you are no different than them. -

Setting aside the religious views of this dude for a second… How does this dude not sound like every other corporate warmonger Republican or Democrat? -

I did at your advice take an introspective look and reconsidered...but decided to in the future start a thread (which I rarely do anyway) if I have something different to share, even if you feel it's not. Thanks for the feedback though. If I was a Bengals or Chiefs fan, why in the world would I be upset about the Bills having a coach that would be my team's whipping boy?
-
Right. It’s a microcosm of how he doesn’t do anything to improve himself.
-
What besides that do you think would help him improve those shortcomings? It's not some kind of inherent quality that can't be changed. Experience, as we've seen, doesn't mean a thing unless you are willing to learn from your mistakes and shortcomings and put in the work to correct and improve them.
-
Oh God, lets hope not. That would happen a lot less if he was prepared for those situations. But that IS on McDermott. Dorsey is his guy that he could have/can replace, that's his leash, and he is in control to override any call he wants. That's part of being a head coach. His coaching IS the problem.
-
I think you can do that. I would myself say that McDermott has done a good job of developing some lower end guys that people didn't think would be contributors. But you can also say that and admit that his defensive units as a whole give it up consistently when the stage is brightest and the biggest games are on the line.

I haven't seen that when it comes to the same issues over and over through a long period of time. I don't see this as the same as physical performance where maybe a guy gets bad anxiety in the biggest moments and can't replicate what he can normally do well in that moment. You can literally map out your plans for those scenarios and especially if you are aware that you are struggling when it comes time to execute. I'm not a huge pure analytics guy because obviously this is a human game and I do think it discounts that to an extent..but I do like the of its philosophy on some of the aspects of game/time management, that it cuts the emotion out and maps out the best possible call when you methodically prepare for it before you set foot on the field when you are clear-headed and have looked at all the facts. But again all of this takes preparation and hard work. Think about his whole body of work, from the early years when he literally didn't know we needed a win over a tie in the Snow Game vs Indy, to the ways he's coached and all of his mistakes in all of our playoff losses - some of them recurring - it all points to a guy that just isn't prepared. He's not taking the time and putting in the work to learn from those mistakes that he's made.

I'm in, it works for me in Madden!
-
Right, I don't think we disagree on any of that. But I'm curious to know why you don't think this links up with discipline, preparation and hard work. Poor decision-making and game management is not some inherent, intrinsic characteristic. It's learned, it's worked on, and can be improved upon. On a 6 year timeline, it absolutely should be improved upon.

Regarding the bolded part, you mean like in the playoff games both years back to back vs KC? I agree with some of the other parts, Phillips had a terrible penalty and the game should've ended there. Not a fan at all of the timeout right before the pass to Evans on 4th down to give the Bucs more time though. And again that's something McD has done many times. The other recurring theme being the shotgun run at the goaline. It's all being attributed to Dorsey but first off that's McD's hire and McD can step in and interject on any playcall he doesn't like. It's his responsibility at the end of the day. And of course the Hail Mary which we were in a terrible position on. When I say recurring theme, it's that we're seeing the same issues over and over and over again. That is in my opinion a product of a head coach that doesn't take the time and put in the work to improve himself.
