Double edged sword for me. On the one hand, it would probably (IMO) take multiple day 1 and 2 draft picks to get him....and we need those picks for a lot of hole filling on that defense. On the other hand, Beane's early picks have been mediocre the last few years. So not sure he would spend them on the right guys anyway.

What was the quote from Beane a few years back about the speed Tyreek Hill has? That as much as he loves that kind of speed those players don't just grow on trees and "if you know where to find someone with speed like that let me know". Then last draft he's sitting there staring the fastest player in the history of the draft in the face with his pick up...and moves it content with Coleman and his cement shoe 40.

After hearing Von and the management speak after the season...I think they approach him with the option of a pay cut. Not a restructure. A straight up pay cut. If he takes it he will likely be back, if not then they release him.

And to me this is the big thing that separates the Bills and Chiefs. Kansas City has experienced coaches that have been doing it a long time. Both their OC and DC are former HCs in the NFL. So, while they have basically a HC, a HC on offense and a HC on defense....the Bills promote inexperienced guys from within. Spags knew that in today's NFL and especially games like this it comes down to one play at the end of a game. He spent the entire game showing this look and setting the Bills up to fall for it at a key time. At no point in any game did I get the sense that Babich had the foresight to call a game like this. To set up a team for the end of the game. Babich was decent enough for a first time coordinator...and first time coordinators are great for teams like Indy or Arizona. But when you are a Super Bowl contender...that extra experience helps overcome.

Why? He didn't from the plays the year before. This years low light real contains the NFL's first kickoff return for a TD under the new rules and TWO converted fake punts against us in addition to another smattering of big plays allowed. Maybe, IDK...get someone that's already learned those lessons and knows what they are doing.

Yes, and spoke to the offensive trades he made. Douglas made a nice impact last year. Was fairly mediocre this year.

See the difference there is they don't need to go that route because they actually have the ability to identify and draft impact players...and aren't afraid to make a big jump up the board to acquire them.

In his time here he's brought in ONE big time free agent in Von...and paid a ridiculous overpay to do it. Trading for Cooper is actually on point. He seems to make a trade near the draft almost every year. More times than not it's been a move for an offensive player that doesn't work out well. And the last two (Cooper and Hines) offensive players we traded for were very underused. Again on point.

I am so tired of the "run it back, focus on re-signing our own at the cost of getting quality FAs, promote from within" mentality of this franchise. We tried that. It didn't work. Maybe time to try something else. These guys are so afraid of any kind of change.

What I think happens is this. Babich obviously returns with the Bills hoping his year will serve as experience to help him get better. Growth mindset. I think not much changes to open the year. McDermott has stated several times he does not want to take over play calling again as it diverts his attention from other things during the game and the week in prep. But if Babich struggles over the first month, month and a half next year I think Sean would take it back over if/when he felt it was for the good of the team and Babich would then ride out the season and be replaced with a more experienced defensive boss with play calling experience.

It is a complete joke and for those unaware they mainly do "Skills competitions" these days with a flag football game mixed in. I do wish he would at least go as it's a great opportunity to schmooze with other good players and maybe convince them to come to Buffalo. Play the recruitment card.

I agree with most of this. I was calling for Smiley to be gone last year. Special Teams has bye and large been poor most of McDermott's tenure...but extra bad the last 2 years. Von should go. Milano and Samuel would be approached for pay cuts if it were me. The only thing I disagree with is Hamlin. I think he should be upgraded as starter if one is available, but would gladly keep him as a depth player. He's young with a lot of starting experience in this system and shouldn't cost a ton.

Actually that is a big part of my point. The margin is razor thin. Based on things Beane has said post draft they have a group of players they like. They are content with getting any of them. But what they fail to do is be aggressive and identify and go after the best of the bunch and are happy letting others have first dibs then figure out who is left. They allow other teams to dictate who they take rather then get they guy at the tippy top. That's how we end up with Elam and Coleman instead of McDuffie and Worthy. In a game that was razor thin both of their guys in this instance made plays. Ours were a net negative and a disappearing act. I like Brandon Beane. I just think his philosophy is a bit too passive. Being so very close to the Chiefs it would be great to see him run up the board and grab someone that can make an immediate impact instead of waiting to grab the guy that may be good 2 years from now. And no, I don't mean jumping 3 spots because there is only 1 guy left on their list. Especially in the first couple rounds.

If those are the right guys, we have little way to know. We don't see the work they do or the results. Very behind the scenes stuff. But if they aren't it's up to McDermott and Babich to assess and change if needed. Regarding Bishop; coming out of the draft I had some high hopes for the kid and would have loved to see more, sure. But I think we also have to be realistic. Kid misses a substantial amount bof time hurt in TC and camp. He had to learn the defense and all the communication on the back end once the season started. Especially in McDermott's system the communication is really the key back there. So realistically we got what we got. I do come away with the hope that we saw some really good things out of him late in the year and that will transition well to year 2. I think he's a plus starter to begin the year next year.
