  1. It's an interesting thought. I think the Watson saga set Culley up to fail more than anything else, though. McCown reportedly said last year that he wasn't ready yet to coach. Then this year tells the Texans he's "all in" and ready. Issue here for me is let's see how all in he is. I think Lovie was hired because he will work with the Texans FO. Right now the obviously play for them is to offer McCown a spot on the staff for experience. Wouldn't shock me if Lovie had to agree to it before getting the spot. Now, if McCown joins the focus isn't setting Lovie up to fail as much as it becomes Lovie prepping McCown to be his successor. If McCown turns down a spot on staff (if offered) it would make me seriously question if he's will in to put in the work that is required of a HC in the NFL if he won't even grind to gain qualifications that may be required.
  2. Ok. The 2 picks deal isn't to reward a team for hiring a minority candidate. One issue for minority candidates was that they were not being mentored, groomed and set up to succeed. A claim was that they were not given the same opportunities to become qualified for the next steps. The draft choices given were in part meant help motavate teams to increase the opportunity for minority coaches to succeed once named to HC position. Much like comp picks some teams rake it into consideration while others do not.
  3. And yet.... Had the Dolphins taken Herbert over Tua there's a chance that they sneak into that playoffs last year. Flores isn't fired. He's still collecting millions form someone that allegedly tried to bribe him to lose and there is no lawsuit.
  4. Not weird at all IMO. I think if he doesn't file that lawsuit, Flores is likely to be hired by the Texans. Had the NE connections, was brought in very early in the search. He at least stood a good shot. However, it would set a terrible standard and give off the appearence that all you had to do to land a HC gig was push a lawsuit and you would be appeased. Would open the door for many other disgruntled minority coaches to potentially attempt the same tactics.
  5. Either that or the Fisher Price Laptop he's using failed to connect to the WiFi.
  6. Beane had to pounce on getting him back quick before Buffalo East made their move.
  7. Kyler didn't delete anything. He's too short to reach the computer.
  8. It would be a mild shock if they moved on this season. As the OP states, we have nothing on roster that would replace him. If we look to draft it would likely be a talent dip/cohesiveness dip. Plus you lose his leadership. Same could be said for most on them FA market...only then you would be likely paying a bulky sum for a top FA anyway. Not a smart move for a team that can push to win it all next year.
  9. It's nothing. Some writer wrote an article to meet a deadline. Included Toney's name to get people talking. Admitted in the article it was an extreme long shot. Posted it upthread. It's all just "this time year" banter.
  10. I believe he's a FA
  11. I found this article, which likely gave rise to some others stating the same thing. Which likely is what birthed this post. Not a bad read. No rumors. Just somebody spitballing.
  12. Getting close to that free lunch prize, myself 😂😂
  13. Ironically enough, if Lovie is hired and McCown is brought on as an assistant (which is extremely plausible IMO) then then it could easily be that Lovie is the placeholder while McCown gets his coaching experience.
  14. I think you are going to get a LOT of pushback on the Poyer comments. Doesn't mean you're wrong. It feels like the accolades he's getting now are more about making up for years where he deserved it. Now, he's still a solid player. A leader on that side of the ball. But tomorrow always comes and players get older. The thing that I think solidifies Poyer's spot is that our defense lacks playmakers...and he makes plays in the passing game. At least for this coming season.
  15. Running a scheme doesn't mean you run it verbatim, though. Coaches that have success run their scheme with wrinkles and tweaks based on players they have. I do concede that new coaches often find players that fit what they want. However, as said above IF Geiseki is brought back I would say it's because McDaniel has a plan in place on how to fit him in.
  16. A good coach adapts his scheme to fit his players. No one is saying Geiseki will be asked to do what Kittle can. He will be asked to play to his strengths if McDaniel is as good as people claim. I never understand the notion where people believe that everything must be recreated line by line when coaches take over new teams. Geiseki won't be Kittle. Waddle won't be Deebo. But both can be used in different ways to exploit matchups. And from what many say about McDaniel he is good at finding ways to play to what his players do well and not forcing square pegs into round holes.
  17. The 2 thoughts I had about this hire that I do not like: 1. If they retain Geiseki I think he finally gets used to his potential. 2. They will find many different ways to get Waddle the ball. He's not Deebo...but he's pretty dangerous with that speed. Hope we play them for the first time after week 5 or 6 so we have an idea who he uses in what way.
  18. Based off statements like this I have to believe many hate the rules because they don't comprehend why they are in place and what the team losing the coach is being rewarded for.
  19. That is a great point. Sometimes GMs don't want to hear about how bad their teams are. Point of pride, I suppose. I would think, however, a new GM fresh into the role would value his candor and knowledge. Be something that may move him up the list a bit. Case by case basis, for sure. I'm actually intrested now to see how often he has interviewed someplace with an established GM as opposed to someone new looking to retool. Looks like if I get time today I know the wormhole I'll be delving into.
  20. Lovie should get a lifetime contract and full control of the team just based off his beard game.
  21. I called it upthread a bit. Makes sense. There is no way they can offer the job to McCown. And if they hire Flores it would appear he got the job just to appease him. Would open the door to more lawsuits by minority candidates that may feel all they have to do is sue and they jump to the front of the line. Lovie has prior experience, is on staff already and would be a minority here...which would look better.
  22. Not sure. Since you bring it up could you do a breakdown of what players we have that have the skill set to play in the wide 9? Perhaps some ideas for replacements for those that don't that should be in FA and draft? Appreciate it!
  23. The only thing I can think of is that the Texans may have someone already on staff (Pep Hamilton? Lovie?) that they are considering promoting. I cannot imagine that right now they would be as tone deaf as to hire McCown as HC. (Why not bring him in as an offensive assistant or position coach?). And I just can't see them hiring Flores with all the distractions that would be thrown on top of the Watson continuing drama. Though Flores did say he informed the Texans of his intention to file his lawsuit during his interview. So it's nothing they were caught off guard with.
  24. Appearently it's down to Flores and McCown officially. This about to get GOOD.
