Jordan Phillips, I’m glad we got him back.
BuffaloBillyG replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall
What of significance is he going to accomplish in practice? He's winning his matchups (from what is being said) at a decent rate. I wouldn't say him being a potential PS stash candidate with a path to make the squad over a guy like Boogie is thinking highly. Especially to start the season of Vons still a week or more away from seeing the field. -

The Tweeters that Tweet Tweets have mentioned him a bunch as someone that is having a strong camp. Getting pressure and being in the right spots against the run. But as with all things Tweeted, of course, grain of salt rule applies. He's one guy I'm looking to see if he brings the juice in the preseason games. I think he's got a possible path to the 53 if he shows he can play. Ultimately, would be a guy I could see ending up on the PS if he's cut and clears. -

There's no question that Phillips has many positive traits. He works hard, plays injured (sometimes to his and the team's detriment) and is always a key guy to rev up the crowd. The issue that I see is outside his 9.5 sack season he's not been able to stay on the field both here and during his time in Arizona. I also think many see that season as a measure of what he brings to the table...and it's not. It's a complete outlier in a contract year. Outside of that one season he has 12 sacks in his career. Combine that with missing 20 games to injury the last 3 years. Yes, when he is out there he has made some plays. But he doesn't stay on the field and started off this camp in the trainers room. I do think if he's more in the 4th DT role and it saves him snaps that will help. But at 30 years old and $3M price tag, the Bills could have gone younger and cheaper at that spot and had a DT with a bit more upside. -
I think the biggest issues for Jackson last year was being CB1 for a large part of it. He's not that. As a CB2, he's better suited there. Both Elam and Jackson are said to be having very strong camps. This is a good problem to have. It's a long season and they will both likely make starts. As you point out, it's a passing league. So having multiple guys that present different skills is a huge bonus. It really doesn't matter who starts opposite Tre. What matters is what they do with the opportunity. My biggest thing when it comes to the position (or any camp battle for that matter) is that I want one guy to TAKE the position. Make it so the coaches have no choice but to keep him there. Who it is is not my concern. They all wear the same laundry.

More players than not were during the era. It wasn't until 1989 that using roids became a suspendable offense. "Both the NFL and the Jets declined to confirm that Gastineau twice tested positive for steroid, but pointed out that steroids use wasn't punishable by suspension until 1989, a year after Gastineau called it a career." http://static.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/garber_greg/1305782.html#:~:text=Both the NFL and the,Gastineau called it a career.

That was Marty Lyons not Klecko.

True, but that was for a short period of time. Over the course of a season or multiple weeks I think the story would be vastly different.

About as good as the Chiefs without Mahomes or the Bengals without Burrow.

I'm just here to time how long it takes when someone mentions Gabe Davis's name until @HappyDaysshows up out of nowhere to remind us all that Gabe sucks. The longest wait is currently 3 minutes 27 seconds FWIW. 🤣😂🤣😂

Doyle did really well in that "6th OL/Big TE" role 2 seasons ago. And who can forget playing in the Dolphins game with a torn ACL last year. Dude is a tough "team first" guy. Gotta respect that. Don't know if he makes the 53, but if not I'm hoping we can get him back on PS. He's the kind of guy you want to keep around.

With the way it's being reported that Tre White has looked in camp, a restructure or even small extension for him wouldn't shock me either.

I really don't think the overrun had much to do with it. Be it $500M or whatever it runs it's not actually coming out of Terry's pocket. The money he has to front will be reflected in the final prices for tickets, PSLs, concession and souvenir items. In the end WE are the ones that will be reimbursing those funds.

And Metcalf would look amazing catching passes from Josh.....Rosen.

And this is why we can't put too much stock into tweets from those in attendance. This is just an example of 2 tweets that set everyone off in totally different directions. Seems to be happening more this year than any I can remember.

Maybe it's just blind fandom...but I forecast James Cook making the NFL top 100 list next year if healthy.

Rumor inside the stadium is that Jordan Phillips is so hungry he sprinted all the way to the buffet line. Pulled hammy.

Well, moving up for Kincaid pretty much meant Beane wasn't moving up on day 2. Can't place the blame there. We walked out of the 1st 2 rounds potentially filling other big holes as well. As far as picking him in Rd2, 32 out of 32 NFL GMs decided that would have been too rich.

I can see that. Of course Simpson was picked 5 spots ahead of Williams and wasn't on the board at the time. Also, when it comes to Baltimore they have had their share of misfires on front 7 picks as well. So time will definitely tell the story, but I can appreciate and respect you having a firm name. He will definitely be worth keeping an eye on.

Thanks for your well thought out input. You really make some excellent points here. I may need to rethink my whole stance on the issue now.
-
It very well could. Flip side...Denver may just be juiced going against Hackett and want to prove he was the issue last year.
-
It may be even worse than that. Check out their early schedule. Vs. Bills @ Dallas Vs Pats Vs KC @ Den Vs Philly Now I will say it seems the schedule makers did them a slight favor. 3 of their hardest games at home in the beginning of the season. I see them beating Denver. I see the Pats game as a toss up. Then Buffalo, Dallas, Philly and KC are all games that they may struggle. 2-4 or even 1-5 after 6 weeks is not out of the realm of possibility....and boy that NY media will make it even more insufferable for them.

I'm rooting for a bad pass to clock either Watson or Rodgers upside the head...a total Thad Brown.
-
I knew it was either this season or next were his last under contract. Point remains. If we lose him to injury or other unforseen instances...perhaps we see more true 4-3 looks. Either way it's good to have options There are a lot of ways he sees some viable snaps this season. Yes, special teams will get him some. But I can see a path to him being on the field in certain groupings as well.

Josh's off season has been wild. Broke up with Brit and Dawson. Rebounded with Hailee and Dalton. This dude upgrades like no other.

Of course, that's providing there isn't a shift on defensive philosophy this or next year as well. Taron Johnson is (I believe) a FA next year. I could see a scenario where the Bills aren't able to resign him and he walks. If that happens do they stay a 4-2 team? Chances are McDermott will either continue to call defense next year, but if they do bring someone in...what will they want to run? We already have reason to believe the defense mindset and play style will adapt without Edmunds in there. What does life look like without Johnson in there due to moving on...or even injury this year? It's always nice to have pieces in place before you need them.
