  1. The issue with that may very well be money. I saw something yesterday that said the Bills were $4M to the good counting the top 51. In a few weeks the Bills have to have money for all 53 in their roster, plus the entire PS (another 3-4M I believe) on their salary cap. Plus have money for in season moves that will happen. And while the Bills do have some moves to make to get there, Teddy played for $6.5M last year. I would suspect (of course no way to know for sure) that would be around what he's looking for now. Even throw in a slight decrease for being a year older and I don't thing you get him for less than $4.5-5.5M on a 1 year deal. May be a bit rich for Beane this late in camp.
  2. Fair enough. But that's a deep room IMO. And when Miller comes back between him, Groot and Floyd there aren't going to likely be many DE snaps available. It's a good problem to have.
  3. How many 2nd team edge players get 9 sacks in a season? That seems a tad unreasonable. If you're basing his season success solely on sacks (say that out loud 3times), 6.5 for a backup edge player is actually quite good.
  4. Someone not comfortable enough with the assessment to attach his name to it.
  5. I'm pretty sure they can get Isabella onto the PS. Shorter is making the team. Beane even said after the pick that they see him earning a jersey on GameDay based on ST ability alone.
  6. You are more than likely correct, however very few things are 100% in this life. As I acknowledged, Neal is spectacular on ST. What I feel may come into play is if McDermott and Beane feel the new rules have devalued the ST position he does not offer enough if pressed into service on defense. I agree, the odds are very high on him being on the roster. But a team going younger/cheaper and with guys that are more versatile with upside is hardly uncommon in the NFL.
  7. There are a few guys that stick out to me as potential surprise cuts because of the finances. I don't think Morse is one of them. However I do think Neal is right there as a potential cut. I know how great he is on ST and the coaching staff loves the guy...but when forced to play defense last year he struggled. Just reading the tea leaves of what the Bills did in the off-season, I think he's been replaced. Rapp can do what they wanted him to do on defense...only better. They drafted Shorter who is reported to be a good gunner. As great as he is on ST (and he is one of the best in the NFL) I think the new rules make him a bit expendable.
  8. Outstanding post. Thank you for doing the leg work on this.
  9. Nope. Marty Lyons was the player punching Kelly. The ref misidentified his number on the call. https://www.espn.com/blog/new-york-jets/post/_/id/63658/famous-giving-him-the-business-call-from-jets-bills-game-turns-30-years-old https://fb.watch/mg77H9ULbQ/?mibextid=Nif5oz
  10. The continued disrespect for Brian Brohm on this board is ridiculous.
  11. He's on the Packers roster. From what I've seen online he stands a real shot at being QB2 there. Right now aside from the guys that are retired or rumored to be (Matt Ryan) the main guys I can think of that are FAs are Teddy Bridgewater and Carson Wentz. And some here will want those guys because "I've heard of him". But neither are much better an option than Barkley and Allen IMO.
  12. Tua in and of himself doesn't worry me. However, he is in a perfect system to maximize his skills with players around him that help his game. His accuracy is phenomenal between the hashmarks and Miami does a good job using the speed they have horizontally to set up vertical game.
  13. I saw another Tweet that I cannot find now but it broke down Kyle and Barkley's stats over something like their last 100 regular season passes. The numbers were almost identical. Now I know Kyle has some more recent starts and is younger and yadda yadda...but neither are really anyone that should see a field. Unfortunately, there really isn't anything left on the FA market that could be justified as an upgrade. Maybe it's just me, but Buffalo doesn't want Barkley as Josh's main backup. If they were good with that they don't try and grab Kyle Allen this year or trade for Keenum last year. Makes me wonder if Kyle flops in the first and second preseason games if they look into trading for a QB
  14. Part may still be Kyle learning the playbook and getting timing down with everyone. However, the snaps in the preseason are going to be interesting to watch.
  15. Agree to disagree. Strongly in this case. Every penny that Terry fronts will be made up. Using a poor Buffalo economy is pointless because they get millions funneled in from other areas and out of towners as well. And let's face facts, the dir hard Bills fan bringing a family of four out to a Bills game or two is no longer the target demographic. There are plenty of people in the area (and out) that have disposable income and will pay whatever the price is to be where it "it" place is. I've seen the shift more and more over the years. If they pop prices up...they will still sell as long as the Bills are winning. There will be a waiting list of people to take turns throwing their cash at Pegula as a matter of fact.
  16. Yup, and that is fair. That's why the actual games will be telling both in his production and how much he's on the field and when. This is the most recent mention I have seen...and says Ray looks good but fails to mention how. Pass rush? Run defense? Just a handsome fella?
  17. I'm not saying the guy is a roster lock or the guy is going to start. I'm saying that if he shows out during the preseason games he's got a shot. Yes I trust the coaching staff. Same coaching staff that has given him a lot of praise. Some of it unprompted. That also speaks volumes on how they view the guy. The DE spot is going to be hard to crack. Floyd, Groot with likely AJE and Lawson is my bet. I believe we kept 5 last year? That leaves 1 spot and that's Von if he's good to go week 1. If not that opens something up short term for someone else. It's not beyond the realm of possibility that Ray takes the spot with a strong showing in the preseason games. It'll get settled on the field for sure.
  18. What of significance is he going to accomplish in practice? He's winning his matchups (from what is being said) at a decent rate. I wouldn't say him being a potential PS stash candidate with a path to make the squad over a guy like Boogie is thinking highly. Especially to start the season of Vons still a week or more away from seeing the field.
  19. The Tweeters that Tweet Tweets have mentioned him a bunch as someone that is having a strong camp. Getting pressure and being in the right spots against the run. But as with all things Tweeted, of course, grain of salt rule applies. He's one guy I'm looking to see if he brings the juice in the preseason games. I think he's got a possible path to the 53 if he shows he can play. Ultimately, would be a guy I could see ending up on the PS if he's cut and clears.
  20. There's no question that Phillips has many positive traits. He works hard, plays injured (sometimes to his and the team's detriment) and is always a key guy to rev up the crowd. The issue that I see is outside his 9.5 sack season he's not been able to stay on the field both here and during his time in Arizona. I also think many see that season as a measure of what he brings to the table...and it's not. It's a complete outlier in a contract year. Outside of that one season he has 12 sacks in his career. Combine that with missing 20 games to injury the last 3 years. Yes, when he is out there he has made some plays. But he doesn't stay on the field and started off this camp in the trainers room. I do think if he's more in the 4th DT role and it saves him snaps that will help. But at 30 years old and $3M price tag, the Bills could have gone younger and cheaper at that spot and had a DT with a bit more upside.
  21. I think the biggest issues for Jackson last year was being CB1 for a large part of it. He's not that. As a CB2, he's better suited there. Both Elam and Jackson are said to be having very strong camps. This is a good problem to have. It's a long season and they will both likely make starts. As you point out, it's a passing league. So having multiple guys that present different skills is a huge bonus. It really doesn't matter who starts opposite Tre. What matters is what they do with the opportunity. My biggest thing when it comes to the position (or any camp battle for that matter) is that I want one guy to TAKE the position. Make it so the coaches have no choice but to keep him there. Who it is is not my concern. They all wear the same laundry.
  22. More players than not were during the era. It wasn't until 1989 that using roids became a suspendable offense. "Both the NFL and the Jets declined to confirm that Gastineau twice tested positive for steroid, but pointed out that steroids use wasn't punishable by suspension until 1989, a year after Gastineau called it a career." http://static.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/garber_greg/1305782.html#:~:text=Both the NFL and the,Gastineau called it a career.
  23. True, but that was for a short period of time. Over the course of a season or multiple weeks I think the story would be vastly different.
  24. About as good as the Chiefs without Mahomes or the Bengals without Burrow.
