No off course not. And Joe has always come across as a straight shooter. Coen pulled the move to get what he wanted. Maybe Joe did the same to see if New Orleans upped an offer or something else he wanted. More money to take on a bad situation, perhaps. I really don't think so, but until the job is filled there's always a chance.

AFC Championship Game Week Thread - Bills at Chiefs
BuffaloBillyG replied to BillsFan619's topic in The Stadium Wall
In a little less than 24 hours the board will be flooded with comments and threads about how we need to fire McDermott or how Philly is about to destroy us in the Super Bowl Even if we get nice things we don't know how to enjoy them. -
One thing is certain. Tomorrow we get to see Josh Allen do Josh Allen things on a football field. As a matter of fact, with these stakes I think we see a new Josh Allen. An "Ultra Allen". One that will leave us all in awe.

Is the AFC Championship the "actual" Super Bowl??
BuffaloBillyG replied to Special K's topic in The Stadium Wall
No. Not at all. I'd love to see the Bills win it all but can't wrap my head around how they would handle Barkley in the Super Bowl. Dude could legitimately break the Super Bowl rushing record against our run defense and control the game. -
Agree. They caught a bit of lightning in a bottle their Super Bowl year, but since then they steadily let talented players who fit their systems (especially on defense) walk away. To the point they replaced a well regarded DC because he couldn't make it work with duct tape and twine. Now it's looking like the purge on offense is due. Mixon last off-season, likely Higgins this one.

How aggressive do you want McDermott to be on Sunday?
BuffaloBillyG replied to Einstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
Typically, I would kick the XP and head to OT. However. At that point you are a yard and a half from the Super Bowl with the best football player on planet Earth running your offense. You also have James Cook who showed a real nose for the end zone. The only thing that scares me is the play call. In this situation the one thing you can't do is have Allen run. They will key in that. And don't call a read option... because Allen won't give the rock up in that situation. Would almost have to be a play where Allen rolls right and makes a play. As odd as it sounds...I look for Mack Hollins. On the flip side you have a defense that quite possibly would not be able to stop the Chiefs in OT. And you still have to hope Bass nails the XP to send it there. I'm going for two and not letting Mahomes see the field again -
The lateral pass wasn't planned. It was impromptu on Kelce's part. They used Worthy the same way against a lot of teams. What "wounds"? Crazy calls? They have those oddball plays in their playbook almost every week. Used mostly inside the 20. Have you never watched the Chiefs? They do this so they players get a sense of having fun. It's been talked about a ton. Andy has said many times throughout the years how much he likes McDermott. And if he doesn't who cares? For 3 hours Sunday love and respect go out the window.

Pete only got a 3 year deal (with team option for a fourth season). An odd contact for coaches I believe. So he may just be a short term culture setter. But if you see video of him in practice He's still got more energy than guys half his age.

I've seen that mentioned many times on this board about Allen being a mismatch for the Shannahan style offense but I'm not sure I agree. Early in Josh's career I would agree. But he's worked on a lot in the last few years and I really think where he is now, Josh Allen may just be a "System Proof" QB. He's gotten better at the short to intermediate. The one area I still think he struggles is deep ball accuracy and ball placement. I think with a little work on Josh's end and some small tweaks to the system, it could work.

True. But sometimes fresh eyes see the answers to questions the battle tested didn't know existed. In a situation bline this doubling up on information isn't a bad thing. Redundancy can be reaffirming. Be nice to know we see the Chief defense the same way other top teams do as well.

Great opportunity call the guy my that just prepped for the Chiefs defense a week ago to ask "What did you learn and what went wrong?" May possibly be a nugget or two we can use. If not a reason to touch base with him and feel him out as a potential Brady replacement should the Saints come knocking.

This is a reminder for all those saying Joe Brady would never take the Saints job. Slowik I thought did a good job. At various points this year he lost Diggs, Collins, Dell, Mixon to injury. They still made the divisional round. He even interviewed for a couple HC spots this cycle. And out of a job. You got a hop on jobs when you're hot. Bet on yourself and you just may go bankrupt for reasons beyond your control anyway.

So, he gets to rehab his image and the 49ers reap 2 more 3rd round picks when someone hires him? Win for both sides. Seriously, I don't think any team has taken advantage of that rule better than San Francisco. Can't be an accident.

I appreciate that. You're welcome, buddy! Happy to be of service! Go Bills!

Jesus, the guy was here better part of a decade and was an All Pro. How do you not know what his name is ...

Pete was in a similar situation with the Hawks. That was the year they signed Flynn to play QB and doubled down on Wilson in the 3rd. I can see a similar approach. Maybe Darnold as the vet and draft a QB like Milroe or Will Howard to compete on day 2 or 3.
-
I don't mind the hire. The Raiders need a new mindset and Pete can bring that. I view it as a "bridge HC" hire. This is almost like a Dick Vermeil hire to me. He doesn't have much at QB. But this is the guy that ran a Seahawks team that hid Russ Wilson for years and under his watch turned Geno Smith into a mid level starter. I don't think they need to get him much to work with. Maybe a Sam Darnold landing spot for me.

Pin the Head Coach on the Donkey....
BuffaloBillyG replied to GunnerBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
Honestly, I think the Saints job is McCarthy's if he wants it, Brady being next in line. Raiders hiring Spags away from KC would be fine with me. And a sneaky way to weaken (potentially) the top team in your own division. But I think Carroll is the frontrunner there. -
It's gotta be Von. If not now, when? It's why he was brought in. It's why he was paid really well and I believe it's why he was kept after his off field issues.
