And the Segway is going to revolutionize human transportation. Hype is easy. Longevity is hard. Tell me the long term vision. Blockchain is and will be a valuable idea. It’s unfortunately not all that monetizable on its own (perhaps an application agnostic platform like Ethereum may succeed in making some $$ as middleman to provide a blockchain platform for developers). But no matter what, the real question is what of value will be the end result of blockchain. The currencies may float around but they are storage vehicles at best right now and nowhere near mature enough to take seriously as a currency. And even as an investment vehicle, they are off the chart risky. F This is is a field full of noise and hype. Every startup I meet these days says blockchain in their pitch. The same way they said machine learning 2 years ago but had no machine learning tach. The same way they said internet of things 2 years before that but had nothing to do with iot. The same way they said social media two years before that but didn’t create social networks beyond a Facebook link. Some leader may emerge but unlike those others, right now I don’t see it. Everyone and their brother touts blockchain. It’s a great idea. It really is. But anyone can do it. And when an idea is so readily available, you have to look to see if anyone can either monetize that idea or build a successful company that would not have been possible before that idea arose. I am waiting. For now I see a thousand vuvuzelas heralding the second coming of PT Barnum.

Until it's accepted for purchase, you will keep measuring its value in govt backed currency, and that is its problem. Bitcoin is not the first alternative currency to make the claim of making a run at government backed ones. Not even the first digital one.

Fair point. Let me restate so there’s no misunderstanding. I have serious doubt about the currencies: I see them as a most dubious prospect. The blockchain technology has widespread application.

Philadelphia Victory Parade on NFL Network
BeginnersMind replied to Fadingpain's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Schools are closed. Courts are closed. Will be fun. But a logistical nightmare if you want to do anything other than the parade. -
I have no problem with this argument and it backs what I’ve been saying. No one values bitcoin or its alternatives. You can use it to make a small number of trades for services but not many. 99.9999% of transactions still require a medium directly related to govt backed currency, which is why this was a senseless bubble. Can it become an accepted currency? Sure. But despite blockchain technology, it’s currently following a well trodden path of wildly unsuccessful attempts to dethrone government backed currency. I wish it luck but if the digital metals-backed currencies didn’t catch on, I have serious doubts about the blockchain currencies, except in very narrow sectors.

I root for corrections. But with the government running up the future’s credit card at an increasing rate, there’s no telling when this one comes. 2008 is not that long ago so when it comes, it could be a precipitous drop as people will flood the exits.

There IS butter on the popcorn. How much more do you need? And that moisture they put on the popcorn? That ain't butter. Movie popcorn butter is to butter as jolly rancher apple is to an apple. There's no there, there.

I have no idea why my post reposted. I logged in to my phone this morning and had a strange TBD screen about a saved response. I clicked through it and had not noticed this was the thread it posted to until now. What posted this morning was not a new comment from me but an older one. Not really interested in this at this time. Just a passing amusement to see the hype machine froth.

Maybe. I doubt it but if it’s so, so be it. I am happy to make money. Let et us know the day you make your next purchase. You guys are a lot lot more active in this thread when Bitcoin has a good day! Welcome back.

Eric Wood has career-ending neck injury; will retire

They have the center already. Hopefully they were already drafting guard help. -
What type of razors do you use for shaving?
BeginnersMind replied to Another Fan's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Any blade head with a few blades should work just fine. The rest is advertising and hype. I use Harry's because I use Harry's. No better or worse than any of the others--just less expensive than the Mach 20s of the world. If HArry's went out of business tomorrow, 18 others could take their place in an instant. -

BeginnersMind replied to Another Fan's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I used the single blade razor for a couple years. Cheaper yes. Cleaner shave not really. More cuts 100%. No matter how good you get at it, you will cut yourself. I now use Harrys. They work well and are cheap. -
Didn’t they already do that crappy movie twice before? Is this like Transformers? Keep trying and maybe one will be good?

Seriously? They have to do this in Philly?
BeginnersMind replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Disagree. Been to many Philly team games. Nothing ever happened that I haven't seen at New Era. Worst experience is that one time I was with my teenage daughter and we were in a crowd of Bills fans. Watkins caught a long TD and we all jumped up and high fived. Nothing obnoxious. Some fan threw a beer at all of us. My daughter got splashed. I turned around and challenged the guy for throwing a beer at a kid. The fan base all around us, all Eagles fans, verbally attacked the guy into a shell. When we were leaving (after Bills lost!), the guy came into the aisle, grabbed my hand, and personally apologized. Are there knuckleheads? Yes, everywhere. But Eagles fans are OK. They clearly aren't Vikings, Packers, or Chiefs fans but they are fine if you're not a jerk, ie, Cowboys fan. -
You shortchange Tyrod. He’s been a solid QB when you add his rushing yards and lack of turnovers. I don’t want him as starter but he’s not Johnny Manziel. I don’t want the Bills to give the farm for Foles. But if they got him in a reasonable trade, he’s about all I expect this off/season. Tom Brady isn’t out there as a free agent people. And in the draft, the Bills pick too low to get a monster. It’s going to be a retread. Foles. Smith. Bradford. Of those three, I pick Foles with an eye on Bradford.

100%. Dareus came to play. Always liked him but he had a bad contract. It was the right move and of all the departed, I wish him the best. He’s had s tough road and I want him to do well.
