US birth rate: 30 year low
BeginnersMind replied to BeginnersMind's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Abortion isn’t something to celebrate. If you want it to be legal, so be it. But let’s not be happy about it. -
Behold the fruits of progressivism:

More fruits: People living as “homeless” in boats off SF to save on hosing costs. https://www.wsj.com/articles/housing-in-san-francisco-is-so-expensive-some-people-live-on-boats-11557999002?mod=mhp -

What is better, no guns, or more guns?
BeginnersMind replied to Security's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Because that would be so terrible. I haven't posted a poem in months but thanks for the reminder that we need a few to brighten up the place. Feel free to add to PPP! -

SAT (yes that one) to add adversity scoring

Not sure why you are Obama-obsessed but he was very book-learned. The schools are struggling with the unprepared applicants though. -

Thank you for your reply. I am sorry to make this a less desirable place for you. I shall not retweet 63 times today. -
The Media's Portrayal of Trump and His Presidency
BeginnersMind replied to Nanker's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Your reply doesn't follow mine. Soon there will be states that number 270 electoral votes that will cast their electoral votes to the winner of the majority vote. If a candidate wins by one vote nationwide, they will win. Not in 2020, but probably by 2024, assuming no state drops out. -
The Media's Portrayal of Trump and His Presidency

No one will eliminate it but enough states (including some red ones) will soon band together to cast their electoral votes with the winner of the majority vote nationwide, effectively sidestepping it. -
Going through the college process right now and it's astonishing how different it is in many ways. The question on everyone's lips is "Are you a first generation college student?" Because if you are, boy do colleges want you! Add this news, that the SATs are adding something called an Adversity Score this year. (The ACTs have one coming, so no worries: All the tests will have it soon.) It will take into account the following factors to give a weighted score for admissions offices: I couple the above with this WaPo article (I can't read this today because I'm over the 2-per month article limit) about how colleges are struggling to keep their first generation college students in school. As I recall the article, students are struggling in spite of having a lot of support network. It turns out (shocker!) that they just weren't quite ready to be at Harvard.

This Brennan Center Report has been getting a lot of traction lately for the reason that the Rs and Ds have shifted their positions on incarceration substantially in the last 4 years. Whether it’s more rehabilitation, less privatization of prisons, better programs for those returning from prison, different sentencing guidelines...the answers are not clear but the desire for changing the system reaches across party lines (praise Jesus!), and we may see this as a bipartisan (Hallelujah) issue in the next couple of years. Seeing a thoughtful publication like this that has both Koch and Bernie is good news. The one by Mark Holder might be interesting for PPP folk or Kushner second.

Thank you, O great one! I needed your 63 Tweets yesterday. May I have another 63 today? You’ve outdone B-Man in spamming this board and made it your personal campaign to blast anything that crosses your Twitterfeed here. Interesting stories you write Kemosabe. I’m downloading my instructions from the Deep state into my 14 usernames right now and will get back to you. So no beer? -

The Retweet News Network is closed for the next few hours and Cartoon Network (with occasional stories) will be posting its copyrighted materials shortly. I encourage all posters who can’t use Twitter or their own news outlets to post 47 Tweets per day and also 19 cartoons here. PPP is your new source. 47 tweets/day * 20 active posters...~1000 tweet-posts a day on PPP. That would be so great. We can do it people. Follow your leaders. -
I’m not the moronic group making up stories about all my identities, and that I’m paid to be here. I think I’m up to 10 identities but it’s fun to talk to my other one, right? Or are you one of my identities too? Maybe you like getting your news filtered via Twitter and then PPP with 59 tweets posted here an hour. I commented on the trend. It’s B-Man *2000.

I don’t see it as a problem. This was meant to provide very good news. The article is about the US, but we’ve followed Europe and most of the rest of the world is on a trend where education of women and contraception access further reduces birth rates. The population isn’t going to zero just because birth rates are declining, but fewer total people on earth in the long term may not be a bad thing. -
I’d be disappointed if Arya does that. She already saved the world. To give her another moment like that tips the balance of all characters to be all about her ability to make assassinations. I don’t believe Martin would do that. Not or saying she won’t play a role but it would be lame to have her behead two monarchs in 4 episodes. Dany needs to go down another way. I suspect it will be when Jon says, with that heavy hearted look he gets, “Dracarys” and melts her on the throne.

Agreed. Unless there's a late moment of comic relief, I think we've seen the last of him. As well as Bran, Sam, and Tormund...unless they are just there for some final coronation/celebration scene. I can see Asha arriving with whatever is left of the Iron Fleet but I don't see her playing a big speaking role. And I wouldn't be shocked if Brienne arrives with Sansa and an army from the North. I do not expect there to be another battle though. I think the end turns on Jon somehow turning the dragon. As the last ep made clear, you have to have the dragon.

The birth rate in the US is now at a 30-year low without much end in sight. The trend worldwide is similar, with higher income correlating to lower birth rates (and most closely correlating to education of women). The higher incomes result mostly in lower birth rates among the young(first child birth age in the US has gone from 21 to 27 in the last 50 years)--meaning the biggest decrease is for young and unprepared parents (mostly moms), the result of which is more "wanted" kids, with better prepared parents. This can only be good news. As India's economy and education rise, and maybe even someday Africa, our world population is projected to peak somewhere in the mid 2000s and then begin to gradually decline. The elbow room on planet earth should be OK for our kids! WSJ Article
