He actually had a pro day, and ran a 4.53 40. I didn't see any other stats. That is a good speed, but not off the charts. It looks like he's real tough with great balance. It will be interesting to see if he can make the transition. There are things that look similar about the two games, but there are things that are very, very different.

I am not an Arcega-Whiteside fan. I think he lacks the athleticism to separate and be successful in the NFL. I'm OK with Gary despite his lack of college production (I think that can be explained by the way he was used. I like Oliver at TE. Last 3 picks? Meh, but at the tail end of the draft you may not get difference makers any way.

Buffalo Bills 2018 MVP... Whitney Mercilus
TigerJ replied to Inigo Montoya's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think the point of the thread is to call Mercilus a hero for his hit on Allen, but to suggest that circumstances worked out to the advantage of Buffalo and Allen in terms of his development. I don't know that Allen would have developed in quite the same way last season without the injury, but I do think that he would still have had significant off season development (he still will) and he still would have had franchise QB potential. There was an additional advantage gained by Buffalo. It's not Anderson as he was signed before the injury, but had Allen not been injured, Anderson would not have played, Buffalo would not have signed Barkley, and we never would have learned that Barkley might be an outstanding back up QB. Admittedly, Josh Allen's development toward greatness is not a sure thing, but I'm about as comfortable with Buffalo's QB situation as I could possibly be with a young starter. -
I don't agree. If you need a QB, fine, but if your have a QB you're happy with, and a decent backup, it just doesn't make sense. You suggest drafting a QB high. That will make it hard to recoup value by trading in the future, particularly if your starter stays healthy. Your young backup is is going to get few opportunities to develop on the field. He would need those opportunities to increase his value in a trade. Young QBs usually are not going to look very good in their first few starts. Patrick Mahomes is the exception, not the rule. Arizona picked Josh Rosen top ten last year. In trade buzz this year it's been suggested the most the Cards could expect in a trade is a second round pick, despite the speculation he could be better than any QB in the current draft. Historically, QBs drafted high have a pretty hefty bust rate. I don't think drafting one to be developed as a backup for future trade bait will change that. To me, it makes more sense to draft players who have a higher probability of contributing.

Personally, I think the Bills are more settled at the RT spot than at one of the guard spots. I think Nsekhe starts and I think we'll be pretty happy with his play.

You say you're all for BPA, but do you mean it?
TigerJ replied to Logic's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Once you get past the first round, there are likely multiple players available for whomever is picking at a given spot that will be graded equally, or so closely that you can't fit a razor blade between them. It would be highly unlikely for there to be only one player that fits into the category of BPA when Buffalo is picking at #40. It's more likely that there will be 4 or 5. That being the case, at least one or two in that group will fill a need. -
Chemistry and cohesiveness on the o-line are certainly an issue. Beane knows that, and noted that last year's problems stemmed less from a lack of talent and more from a lack of chemistry. Except for Morse, the guys Beane brought in look mostly like band aids. They may be better band aid's than we had last year, but the fact that most got short term contracts tells you Bean is hedging his bet on their ability to make a long term difference. I think Nsekhe is pretty good. I think he'll start at right tackle and handle things pretty well. Greg Cosell thinks Spencer Long is a quality guard. I'll defer to his expertise. If we assume he starts, along with Dawkins, Morse and Nsekhe, it means there is really only one spot that needs to get settled, the guard spot opposite from Long. I don't know that they will settle on the starter at that spot before training camp, but if they at least nail it down within the first week of training camp, I think the rest of training camp is probably enough to at least get some chemistry/cohesiveness started, though it would need to continue developing throughout the season.

Efe Obada DE Carolina Panthers amazing story
TigerJ replied to ALF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Fascinating story. Glad to see he's landed on his feet. It's interesting to read a British article intended for a British public. "Obada's 10 appearances last term. . ." -
Remind me on April 25th.

Hypothetical Mock, Who would u select @ #9
TigerJ replied to BillsFan1988's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In the unlikely situation where nobody will trade, I pick Wilkins. -
His odds of making the roster are slim to none. John Brown and Cole Beasley are locks to make the team. Andre Roberts, Zay Jones, and Robert Foster probably make the team. McKenzie, Duke Williams and possibly a draft pick will compete for possibly one more WR roster spot. Ray Ray has to be amazing when training camp starts to push himself into that last group.

Theory on Brady’s retirement
TigerJ replied to quinnearlysghost88's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's not hard to take a set of circumstances and rationalize just about any prediction from it. I'm not going to let myself get carried away just yet. -
If Buffalo does draft a WR, my preference would be that they pick up a guy with size to balance out the group some. Robert Foster is not a smurf at 6'2" and Duke Williams has some nice size to him, but we could use a bit more. There are lots of receivers in this draft with size. I'm pretty intrigued by Miles Boykin. He needs some development, but he's an elite athlete and has a great attitude. There are other too. It's not limited to DK Metcalf and Hakeem Butler.

2019 NFL Draft Running Back Prospect Primer
TigerJ replied to blacklabel's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I like Justice Hill and Ryquell Armstead. I also like my deep sleeper pick Kerrith Whyte. We could likely sign him as a UDFA -
There is a 100% certainty that Dawkins and Morse will start. I think the odds are 80% or better that Nsekhe and Spain will win starting jobs at their positions. That leaves one spot where in my mind there is a lot of uncertainty. At the remaining guard spot, my best guess is that Feliciano and Teller have the best opportunity to compete to start. Long has the best versatility on the interior of the line and I think McDermott will be tempted to use him as a swing guard/center in relief.

Certainly NFL GMs are going to have a range of team building philosophies. Maybe there's more than one approach that can lead to success. It's possible this unnamed "NFL executive" (GM?) is correct, but it's also possible he just doesn't get Beane's approach. Beane certainly has rolled the dice a few times on player health, but in the case of a player like Kevin Johnson, he's got a number of good CBs in the stable. Maybe Johnson won't have to play as many snaps because of that and the risk of injury will be somewhat reduced. We'll have to see.

Brian Burns Names Bills as Showing Interest
TigerJ replied to Thurman#1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I doubt he lasts past the middle of the first round. -
As always it depends on how the draft plays out. Beane will trade up if there is a specific player he wants when he can get him where it is a good value. I don't think he has anything against using all 10 picks, however.

Bills likely will still draft OL based on pre-draft work
TigerJ replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It would not surprise me if they pick up another one or two offensive linemen in the draft. I don't think it'll be any more than that. -
By definition, the Jets look like crap regardless of what they wear. So too, the Dolphins and Patriots.
-
I picked Ed Oliver, but it is with the understanding that he carries at least a small risk. If Buffalo goes in a different direction, I won't be heartbroken.

Bills showing interest in Memphis LB Curtis Akins
TigerJ replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If the acquired him, special teams would almost certainly be his primary focus initially. He would presumably replace Julian Stanford or Deon Lacey on the roster. If they can coach him up on defense, then perhaps he could be useful on defense. His measurables suggest he could work at any linebacker spot. He's big enough to play SAM or Mike, and fast enough to drop into coverage as a Will. If he's got no football intelligence and instinct, however, none of that matters.
