6’4 WR Derek Kief, Alabama tryout with the Bills
TigerJ replied to wppete's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Runs a 4.71 40. If he get on the camp roster, he'll be competing essentially against Duke Williams and David Sills. Right now, I have to give the edge to Williams based on experience. Williams also has more weight to push around cornerbacks. -
I thought it was 6.312%

Lawson's 5th yr option ($9.451M) declined & Ziggy update
TigerJ replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sam linebacker. If Lorax doesn't retire, at least the handwriting is on the wall. Vosean Joseph is a better fit at Wil. I also wouldn't be surprised if both Shady and Frank Gore are gone after the season. RB could be thin. -
Draft pundits set up their equivalent of a big board prior to the draft. Then they grade teams for how closely their draft reflects values on their own draft board. Maybe Belichick gets a little extra slack in that process because of his long term success in the league, but the whole rating process is flawed from the get-go.
-
If not Shady, then how about Keith Ford for a fourth. I'm just kidding.

The Competition for WR6 on the Bills Roster
TigerJ replied to Phil The Thrill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
7 WRs, 4 RBs, and 4 TEs? Not happening. The reality is teams don't get that much production out of fourth and fifth receivers. Sixth and seventh receivers are almost never going to see the field. roster spots are generally too precious to waste like that. Running backs take a lot more of a beating, and it's easier to see 4 RBs (plus a FB) on a roster than 7 WRs. Teams will ordinarily want at least 3 TEs because 2 TR formations are pretty common and teams like to have a spare in case of injury. Its not unusual to see teams carry a couple extra TEs, as some teams sometimes like to use three TE formations on occasion. Tight ends are much more useful in the running game, and can be just as effective in the passing game, if they're good. -
The Competition for WR6 on the Bills Roster
TigerJ replied to Phil The Thrill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I doubt players like DaMari Scott or Victor Bolden are really going to be much of a factor in any WR competition. Duke Williams, Isaiah McKenzie and maybe David Sills are the more likely players in this competition. Easley sounds like he might have some potential as a slot receiver, but he's not beating out Beasley, and I don't know that Buffalo is going to carry a guy on the roster who is only a backup slot receiver. Maybe he hooks on with the PS. -
[Vague Title] Just watched NFL Today on ESPN
TigerJ replied to TC in St. Louis's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
When Ed Oliver harrasses Tommy Brady straight into retirement, the Bills will get some notice on ESPN. -
Given my limited knowledge of player values and total ignorance of the myriad of scouting reports that teams all do on all these players. I probably would have gone WR or edge rusher with the Bills' first pick in the third round. However, I do understand that my ignorance relative to Beane's access to all kins of scouting information renders my opinion relatively worthless. Singletary could turn out to be a really good RB, and the odds are not super high that Gore or McCoy will be here after the 2019 season.

How do you feel about the Bills right now in 2019?
TigerJ replied to Another Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think on paper the defense is better too. I loved Kyle Williams, but Oliver is an upgrade. The cornerback group has higher quality depth. Not much change at linebacker and safety though. Vosean Joseph and Jaquan Johnson are depth players who will see the field more on special teams than on defense. -
Read the scouting report and guess the player
TigerJ replied to FeelingOnYouboty's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Metcalf didn't have the college production and is almost certainly maxed out in terms of his size. Can't be him. Tremaine Edmunds makes perfect sense. -
Penalties are becoming a problem again
TigerJ replied to Inigo Montoya's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think penalties can be a symptom of other issues on a team. Sometimes when a team plays a real aggressive style of defense, there can be some penalties because of chippiness, for instance. In Buffalo's case, without doing any kind of statistical study, I think maybe the poor quality of the offensive line may have had something to do with some of the offensive penalties, particularly false starts and offensive holding. There does need to be more emphasis on discipline on the field in any case. -
Darryl Johnson already has a nickname, earned while in college. He is "Bam" Johnson. From what I understand of his playing style, "Kamikazi" might be appropriate for Vosean Joseph.

How do you feel about the Bills right now in 2019?
TigerJ replied to Another Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I've been optimistic before and been disappointed. I am cautiously optimistic yet again. I want to be wildly optimistic, but I can't go there quite yet because of a long history. I like the coaching and the handling of the roster. I think this is one of the most talented rosters Buffalo has had since the golden age of four straight Super Bowls. The Cheatriots remain dangerous, however. -
Post Draft Vegas Season Win Over / Under Bills at 6.5
TigerJ replied to PlayoffsPlease's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As I understand it, setting odds is less a prediction about the teams for which odds are set, and more about Vegas' opinion of the sentiment of the betting public. The goal here is to have roughly half the betting money come in on the under side and half on the over. In essence, Vegas doesn't think the betting public has a real high opinion of the Bills' upcoming season, which should be no surprise. -
Post Draft Exodus of Brain Matter & A Time to Gloat !!
TigerJ replied to T master's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's impossible to put a time frame on it, but DCs are already working on it. NFL offenses are also working on incorporating elements of it. Andy Reid incorporated a lot of Air Raid elements last season for Pat Mahomes. I think Sean McVay has done some of that with Jared Goff. Others are sure to follow. I doubt the Air Raid is going to go away. I saw a TV show that explained it, and it really is hard to defend. I expect it will become part of the mix that you find across the NFL. It's like the West Coast Offense. That never really went away, but it has evolved, and variations of it have developed as members of the Bill Wash coaching tree put their own spin on it. Andy Reid is a West Coast guy, but now his offense is a West Coast/Air Raid hybrid. Brian Daboll is no dummy. I think Josh Allen's skill set probably lends itself to the Air Raid, and I wouldn't be surprised if he incorporates some Air Raid style plays, if he hasn't all ready. -

I generally don't criticize people for expressing opinions. The only thing that tends to get under my skin is when people tout their opinions as fact and suggest that anyone who doesn't go along is stupid. As far as Murray to Arizona is concerned, it was almost a given, once the Cards hired Kliff Kingsbury to be their head coach. Kingsbury was never going to run a West Coast offense. There is some question whether or not Rosen can thrive in anything but a WC offense. Murray, on the other hand is made for the Air Raid offense. -
Cody Ford - Some Observations From the Orange Bowl.....
TigerJ replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Interestingly, Ford didn't put up a great number in the bench press at the combine. I'm glad he played strong on the field. I imagine the strength and conditioning coaches will work to get him even stronger. I think his greatest strength is probably that he's been well coached and is technically proficient. It's interesting that some observers have called him a mauler in run blocking, and others has specifically pointed out that he's not. It appears he doesn't have a real weakness though, as he's effective both in pass and run blocking. -
I can't find the dates for rookie mini-camp, but I did find an article on the calendar for the Bills off season activities. As of April 1, the dated of rookie mini-camp had not been set, but by rule it must be either the first or second weekends after the draft. That at least narrows it down some. https://buffalonews.com/2019/04/01/buffalo-bills-offseason-program-ota/

Must be Jim called in a favor to Frank (Chad Kelly)
TigerJ replied to MAJBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
While Frank's time with Jim Kelly on the Bills probably pre-dates Chad Kelly's birth, I wouldn't be surprised if Frank has at least met Chad in the past. Chad has some physical talents. It may be worth giving him another shot as it does not cost the Colts a lot. Neither Luck or Brissett are ancient by NFL standards, and the odds of having to activate and play a third QB aren't huge. Chad has probably been told he's got one shot. If he screws up, that's probably his last chance to do anything in the NFL.
