Jets fire GM Mike Maccagnan, name Adam Gase interim GM
TigerJ replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Gase is a very smart Xs and Os guy but some observers suggest he's not very mature in his emotional makeup. Pettiness, and tantrums wear thin quickly in a team's regard for their coach. -
I disagree. 4.7 is a very good time for a DE. Yes, there are guys that run a 4.5, but there are also DEs in the league who are up in the 4.9 range, and a lot in the 4.8 range. The thing that makes Oliver so successful though is his burst off the line. He beats the offensive lineman with an amazing first step, combined with effective hand fighting and DT strength. Still, I have no desire to to see him moved to DE full time. I think Buffalo will get increased production from their DEs simply because Oliver is causing disruption in the middle.

Obviously, the OP has never tried to listen to The Instigators in the 2 hours before One Bills Live. Granted, Chris Brown has a much smoother delivery, but Tasker has decent insights from time to time. I wouldn't mind if Chris Brown were Murph's partner, but I enjoy the show in it's present form. Yes, I know they're all homers, but then I'm a homer too. I just run what they say through my "homer filter" if I want to get a more objective understanding of the reality of things.

Tyree Jackson - The Next “Joe Webb” For The Bills?
TigerJ replied to Phil The Thrill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think PS is the most likely spot for Tyree at this point. The PS is not a life sentence, however. If he can work on his craft and get his fundamentals nailed down at least somewhat better, then maybe we can talk about versatility. -
National media slowly circling the wagons
TigerJ replied to JerseyBills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't disagree. Chemistry is a huge factor in offensive line effectiveness, and it takes time. I'm hoping that the decision on a starting five gets made quickly, if not by minicamp in June, then in the first week of training camp. Then give them a lot of snaps in preseason. Even then, the problem is they will see vanilla defenses for the most part in preseason. It'll take at least some regular season games for them to get a feel for what their linemates are going to do when defenses dial up exotic blitzes and stunting. -
He can, but he's not going to do it full time. His versatility will enable the Bills defense to be very disruptive, but I just don't see Buffalo making a position switch like that. What I can see is Shaq Lawson joining him on the interior on obvious passing downs.

Happy Mother's Day from Josh and Matt
TigerJ replied to Commish's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And Kyle Orton lost how many games after slipping on a rubber mat? We need to keep out QBs wrapped in bubble wrap between games! Just kidding. -
I'm assuming that McDermott decided that Kroft would not be enough of a locker room leader with a whole room full of rookies. That is at least a good share of the reason that Lee Smith was signed. Of course, Kroft wasn't going to be the guy they would let go, since he may well be the best guy to begin the season as starter. Fisher, whose skill set was closest to that of Smith (which makes him a very one dimensional tight end until proven otherwise) was the logical cut to make. I wish Fisher well and hop he has a chance to continue his quest to make his position switch successful. Just don't sign with New England.

Well, I guess he needed somebody to knock some sense into him, but that is probably not the best way to do it.

Arizona was probably the worst offensive line in the league last season. Unfortunately, Josh Rosen doesn't have the ideal skill set for coping with the non-protection he received last season, but maybe no QB has, as bad as Arizona was, unless Clark Kent had been available.

Tough to find much information on him. What I found is that he went to the University of Florida where he was an underutilized backup. What little I could find in the way of a scouting report suggested in his few opportunities he exhibited some flashes both in receiving and blocking. As a receiver, he averaged over 17 yards per catch, but that was on like about 15 receptions. He is a fraction under 6'3" and weighs 247 lbs, if the info I saw was accurate. He times at 4.82 in the 40. None of that is great, but then he is a UDFA. If he ran a 4.60 and led his team in receptions he'd have been drafted in round 3.

The most encouraging rookie camp observation that I saw
TigerJ replied to TigerJ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I remember reading some good things about Castillo. I wonder if he's just getting tired of the grind. Coaching is a grind to be sure. McDermott has shifted in his assistant hires from targeting experience to youth, enthusiasm, and a hands on style for his position coaches. I think the point of hiring experience was to feel a little more secure as a new head coach hire. Now, having a little experience of his own he's developing a taste for what he likes in his position coaches. -
Mark Pike’s son is trying out with Bills - heck of a story
TigerJ replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Even without the checkered past, he's an extreme long shot to make even the training camp roster. I'm rooting for him to keep his life on track, but the odds are it won't happen in the NFL long term. -
From the Syracuse Post Standard on offensive line coach, Bobby Johnson: 4. Bobby Johnson looks like significant upgrade at OL coach Juan Castillo wasn't a bad coach by any stretch but he wasn't very noticeable. Not all great coaches are animated or loud, but the good ones are engaged and energetic. Bobby Johnson's first practice as Bills offensive line coach was impressive. He seemed to connect with players and brought some juice. That's going to be important for a group that dramatically underperformed in 2018. http://expo.newyorkupstate.com/sports/g66l-2019/05/ec59a0212c4c4/buffalo-bills-rookie-camp-2019-7-observations-on-ed-oliver-cody-ford-and-more.html If you add better players, which the Bills did, you should get better offensive line play. If you add a better coach, which the Bills apparently did, you should get improved offensive line play. If you add both, maybe we have something really good about to happen.

We're building the offense around the passing attack
TigerJ replied to VW82's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree with TroutDog. I know that some of the scouting reports on the new linemen suggest strength at pass blocking, I think there is reason to believe they will be better at run blocking than the line was last season. I' know I'm a homer, but I think they will be a lot better at run blocking this season. Of course, the bar was set pretty low last season. -
Long shot, Abraham Wallace
TigerJ replied to MakeBuffaloGreatAgain's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As per NFLDraftScout, he actually measure in at 5'10 1/4 and ran a 4.53 at his pro day, still within the parameters of an NFL DB, but not quite as impressive. -
Helping to insure a Bills sweep! Sweet!

In the wake of Ziggy to Seattle - What does Beane do now?
TigerJ replied to TigerJ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good article, Hapless. The Bills could indeed wait it out as far as bringing in another pass rusher. The Bills could certainly do that even if they filled the remaining roster spots for training camp. Personally, I'll be a bit surprised if the Bills fork out the bucks for Clowney, but you never know. Perry and Ray are interesting options to me. -
I wonder if they will look for a fourth QB to serve as a camp arm. Once the season starts, I suspect they will carry 2 on the 53 man roster, and put Tyree on the PS, unless they are convinced somebody will sign him if they do.
