Tom Brady : Not winning Father Of The Year
TigerJ replied to Just Jack's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, I wouldn't have done it, but then I wouldn't have jumped myself. I'm assuming lots of people jump from that spot and if there were a significant risk authorities would discourage it. -
LBs Josh Bynes and Stephone Anthony visiting OBD
TigerJ replied to MAJBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Anthony has a good size/ straight line speed combo as a middle linebacker, but has been criticized for a lack of pass coverage ability. Bynes is a journeyman. -
Who Will Be Better in 2019 - The Bills or The Jets
TigerJ replied to Phil The Thrill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Phil is serious, and don't call him Shirley. -
It's not even a Kyle Orton thread.
-
He slipped on a rubber mat?

Buffalo has a UDFA in Nick Easley who is actually a pretty promising slot type receiver. They could give him the reps to spell Cole Beasley.
-
I think Belichick should hire this guy as a stunt double to do his news conferences. It's not like Belichick ever says anything anyway. Just give him an audition and make sure he can mumble.

If forced to make a prediction, I'd say, no. There is too much competition for too few roster spots up for grabs. John Brown, Cole Beasley, Robert Foster, and (I believe) Zay Jones are all pretty much locks to be on the roster. Andre Roberts isn't too far from a lock as a return specialist. So, you've basically got Isaiah McKenzie, Duke Williams, David Sills, Ray Ray and a couple others competing for that last spot. That can't give him very good odds.

Duke Williams- can he make the team?
TigerJ replied to BobbyC81's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'll let you know in September. Seriously, if the Bills are looking for a variety of skill sets in their WRs, he has an excellent chance. He's not a burner, but he's the biggest and most physical WR they've got. If McDermott thinks there will be times that he needs that physicality from a WR (instead of a TE) then Duke Williams is the guy who can do it. -
I think the problem with trying to assess any QB who comes out of college with less than ideal performance, (like Tyree Jackson) is you don't know his story. You don't know the coaching he's had . You don't know what makes him tick. Because you don't know those things, you can't really tell if he's going to be stuck as a n inadequate QB or he's going to develop. The odds will tell you Tyree Jackson is never going to be an NFL QB, but with his physical attributes: size, athleticism and arm strength, it always worth a little time and effort to try and figure out what he's got. Why are his mechanics poor? Why did he seem unable to throw with touch? Why are his mechanics bad? The answer may be he's just a lousy QB, but maybe there's more to it, and the answer means those things might be fixable over time.

Is this going to far as a Bills fan?
TigerJ replied to BrycePaup4ever's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I use a Braun electric. I have a spot on my chin that catches a safety razor every single time. If I don't want to bleed every day, I have to go electric. -
Rafael Bush retires; Bills sign Kurt Coleman
TigerJ replied to CNY315's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He's not a lock to make the final roster by any means. The Bills have plenty of depth. -
Do you expect better preseason games
TigerJ replied to Wnybricky's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I expect somewhat cleaner play from veterans than last year, particularly on offense. That would show up especially in week 3 of preseason. Rookies are still rookies, and if you put enough of them in a game, it's going to get sloppy. -
Well, I am wired to be optimistic, so maybe I'm all wet, but I don't have any fear whatsoever that Daboll is going to try and turn Josh Allen into Frankenbrady. Daboll demonstrated the ability at Alabama to build an offense that fit both the personnel at Alabama and Nick Saban's strong feelings about offense. Daboll is a product of all the places he's been, including New England. He's never had the kind of personnel he has now, and I think we're going to see some New England and some Alabama in the Bills this season. I don't know that Josh Allen is going to have Tom Brady's timing and short area accuracy, but I think he's going to be better at both than last year. My biggest reason for optimism is that I think Josh Allen has the mental accumen to handle anything and everything that Brian Daboll can dream up to go with the physical ability to make it work. I do expect to see a fair number of Bradyesque plays in the Bills' offense, but I also expect to see plays that remind us of what Kliff Kingsbury will be installing in Arizona.

I'm not really talking about passing productivity. It's more about style. Cam has always been inclined to rely on the long ball, and Josh Allen started out that way last season. The Carolina Panthers went out and got him an OC (Norv Turner) before last season, who likes a vertical passing game. It's a good fit. As I said, I don't think Josh Allen is going to give up on the deep pass. Beane just went out and got him a speedster this offseason to pair with Robert Foster, but Daboll is also on the record as saying they are working on how Josh reads plays. Instead of starting long and checking down to short, the way Josh was accustomed to doing inn college (and I think the way Cam Newton handles his reads) Daboll is working to get him to read short and progress to long. That's what Josh did in the Miami game at the end of the season. While the Bills went out and got John Brown to stretch the field in the offseason, they also signed Cole Beasley, whose forte is creating separation underneath from the slot. Cole expects to catch a lot of balls.
-
I fully agree. Physically, they are very similar - big, athletic, with a strong arm, but I don't get the sense that their pro game is going to be at all similar. I expect a much more varied passing game with Allen. I think the last game last season versus Miami was a hint of that. It's not that Allen is going to swear off the long ball, but it's merely going to be a piece of his arsenal, not the whole thing

Baldy's Breakdown (Tremaine Edmunds)
TigerJ replied to Buffalo716's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
For the most part, you're preaching to the choir, man. We're counting on the typical second year improvement to learn what we've actually got in our young linebacker. I'm excited for the possibilities. We've got a middle linebacker with the "catch radius" of an elite TE, the speed of at least an average WR and the size to intimidate any offensive skill player who wants to think about venturing in to the middle of that defense. -

You're right on the offense, of course. The first year of McDermott's tenure was pretty much a waste on the offensive side of the LOS. Buffalo still had a starting QB who is better described as a place holder than a franchise QB. Moreover, they had an old school west coast OC who didn't have the creativity do do anything with the sub par collection of offensive players he had. They weren't terrible on offense, but they weren't really very good either. Then last year, they had a raw rookie QB behind a terrible offensive line. I don't think we saw enough to really know what we have in Brian Daboll as OC, and we haven't seen what we hope Josh Allen will become. A few flashes have been encouraging, but he's got a long ways to go. On defense, I don't think the Bills are THAT undersized. Ed Oliver is clearly on the small side as a DT. It remains to be seen how that will play of. Harrison Phillips is also somewhat undersized as a nose tackle in relief for Star Lotulelei. Lotulelei is not huge, but he's big enough, and pretty strong, while Jordan Phillips is huge for a 3 tech. Jerry Hughes is not the biggest DE in the league, but he's far from the smallest. Murphy and Shaq Lawson on the other side are fine. The only starting LB who is undersized this season is Milano. Edmunds is a freak in his combo of size strength and speed. That could change in 2020 assuming Lorax retires. The DBs are fairly average in size, maybe a little below average but nothing alarming. -

Buffalo hasn't done a great deal to address run defense. Changing out the retired Kyle Williams for Ed Oliver doesn't seem to address run defense. It looks like they're hoping that maturation from Tremaine Edmunds and the return to full health from Trent Murphy will be enough. I hope that's enough.
