  1. I don't know if anyone would be surprised, but I'll go with Lee Smith. Buffalo signed him to be a blocking tight end, but injuries forced Buffalo to play Tommy Sweeney with the ones a lot. He responded by getting open and catching passes to the degree that I don't think the Bills can cut him now. Knox and Croom are coming back from hamstring pulls and Kroft is waiting in the wings. Blocking is not a real strength in any of those other guys, but conversely they aren't terrible at it, and everybody shows willingness to work at it, and they are big enough to have upside as blockers. All of that is going to make Lee Smith and the role of blocking tight end expendable.
  2. I think both Sweeney and Knox will make the roster. Beane will have to adjust accordingly. Sweeney's play makes it tough to keep Lee Smith as a blocking TE. The injury to Kroft gives the Bills some flexibility. He likely won't be fully ready to go at the start of the season, and I think the Bills can just leave him on PUP until such a time as they need him.
  3. Not a prediction, but it seems to me like there are several young QBs doing a pretty good job late in some of these preseason games. Sloter for Minnesota is an example I've watched this evening. Buffalo played against a guy the other night who did a good job. They could keep track of these guys. Several will likely not make their current teams' 53 man roster. some may make practice squads, a few may not. Those are guys Buffalo could look at. If they feelo strongly enough about a guy on somebody's PS, they can sign him to their 53 man roster. Those who don't make a PS may still be a safer emergency QB than Jackson at this point.
  4. I don't think there is any coaching input into concussion protocol. It is a medical issue only. If he has symptoms, even minor ones, he's not going to be cleared. If he is cleared, the Bills don't have to play him, but they can't say he's still in the protocol.
  5. He can't be added to anybody's active roster if Buffalo puts him on their PS as the 11th player. At least that's my understanding.
  6. Normally, if you're keeping just 2 QBs on the active roster, you like to have a QB on your PS that knows your offensive system so that if your starter goes down for what could be an extended period, you can activate your PS QB to be a temporary backup, and bail the team out in case of injury to your backup. Tyree is so raw that he really doesn't give you that security blanket. Thus, keeping him on the PS is a luxury they would only do if they were convinced his awful preseason performances are meaningless and he really does have a very high ceiling if they can develop him properly.
  7. He's having fun and has an 8 year old's excitement about playing the game of football.
  8. My summary: The Bills have a roster exemption now for Wade. They CAN add him to the 53 man roster where he would count against the roster limit. If they waive him in the cutdown to 53, any other team can sign him to their 53 man roster. If he clears waivers, the Bills can put him on the Practice Squad and receive an exemption for him there (he does not count against the practice squad limit of 10. Once placed on the Bills' practice squad he CANNOT be signed to anybody's 53 man roster, including the Bills. If he makes somebody's 53 man roster and later gets cut, he can be signed to anybody's practice squad. The gray area covers that last scenario and the Bills are the team that signs him to their practice squad after being on somebody's 53 man roster. It is unknown whether or not Buffalo would be a practice squad exemption for him.
  9. Didn't Atlanta's Matt Ryan play in their game with the Jets? He's a pretty entrenched starter.
  10. I agree, without the stats Darryl Johnson has been generating, the Bills might have sneaked him on to the PS, but that's looking pretty unlikely now. He is essentially forcing his way on to the 53 man roster. Mike Love has been something of a training camp darling, but he's not getting his name mentioned in the games so far.
  11. Jackson's play on the field certainly has not earned him a spot on the practice squad, but I'm not at all certain what Buffalo will do. From all accounts he's bright, a hard worker with a great attitude, to go with outstanding athleticism, arm strength and size. All those positive attributes could outweigh his performance on the field, which I don't think means a great deal to the Bills' decision makers at this point. It may boil down to who else becomes available to sign to the practice squad.
  12. You like Baldy whether he's honest, good, bad or indifferent? You're easy to please, aren't you!
  13. If it had been ruled a fumble, Buffalo's spot on first and goal would have been two yards better.
  14. With Flutie/Johnson as the only competition, the bar is set pretty low. Flutie, in retrospect was misused and underappreciated by Buffalo. Rob Johnson was also misused, but we can't really know if his ceiling was much higher than what we saw on the field. In Josh Allen, we have an athletic QB who is showing the intelligence to work on and alleviate his weaknesses. He remains a young QB, but his ceiling may include legitimate star potential. Matt Barkley looks like an ideal backup: accurate, poised, supportive of the starter and having demonstrated the ability to step in and win games. What more can you ask for?
  15. Since Buffalo is set at backup QB with Matt Barkley, and Colin Kaepernick would not accept a spot on Buffalo's practice squad, there is no issue here, and no reason for a conversation. It's already been stated, Tyree Jackson is not going to be on the 53 man roster. If Buffalo chooses to keep him on the PS, it's because they believe his athletic gifts are worth trying to develop and they thin he has the right attitude and aptitude to be an NFL QB even though he is FAR from ready to step on the field in a regular season game. If the OP wants a conversation about Kaepernick versus Barkley, I'd pick Barkley, because a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. Barkley is poised and accurate, and has enough arm to be productive. Moreover, he knows his time to compete as a starter in the NFL is probably past and he's happy with his role as a backup and confidant to help Josh Allen get better. While Colin Kaepernick has plenty of physical talent, he was never the most coachable QB in the league, and did not have a great reputation as a team first guy. If Buffalo did not have a good option at backup QB, I'd consider Kaepernick. Since they do - no thanks.
  16. There is only one set of cuts. He will not make the 53 man roster. I could see the Bills keeping him on the PS for his raw physical ability, but he is nowhere near ready for the NFL. If Josh Allen got hurt and Matt Barkley comes in to start a game or more, Buffalo will look for a free agent as insurance against Barkley getting hurt rather than calling up Tyree Jackson.
  17. I know you can't weight a preseason performance too much, but I remember watching too many Bills preseason games where the Bills' performance looked a lot like what Arizona was doing in the first half last night, and the starters looked like the Bills' third stringers tonight.
  18. Yeah, Buffalo is looking good. Waiting to see how the injury to McGhin turns out. He doesn't figure into the Bills' plans this season, but I think he's got the potential to want to stick him on the PS. Players at the bottom of the roster struggled, but not many of them will see the field in the regular season when it counts. Maybe a player here and there, but not en masse. Tyree Jackson is clearly not ready for the NFL. Buffalo could keep him on the PS just for his athleticism and size, but if Josh Allen misses more than a game, Buffalo will look for a street free agent as insurance against Matt Barkley getting hurt. If Christian Wade keeps playing the way he has, McDermott may be forced to figure out a way to get him on the active roster.
  19. I don't disagree, but Bodine is injured.
  20. I don't know that it can be easily quantified, but I'm certain that every year, injuries have a significant impact on the standings, and who goes to the playoffs.
  21. I'm sure that's the intent, and just as sure they only provide very limited protection versus the older helmet designs.
  22. I bought a cheap ozone generator at Amazon. I have a heated air hose, so it doesn't fit as instructed, so I figured out a way to reverse it, hooking up the machine end of the hose to the mask and the mask end of the hose to the ozone generator. Since the ozone generator uses a rechargeable battery, I can stick the whole thing in a plastic bag and close it with a twist tie. Works like a charm. The whole thing cost me about $50. I Can use it on my machine too, but I have to do that separately from the mask. I only do the machine once in while.
  23. I use a CPAP. Oddly enough, I rarely stop breathing at night, but the sleep study showed that my breathing becomes shallow when I'm sleeping. When I was heavier, I also needed oxygen with my CPAP, but was able to get rid of that a couple years ago. I'm glad for that as an oxygen concentrator can sound like a boiler factory. Oddly enough, the CPAP machine bothers my wife more than the oxygen concentrator and more than my snoring. The air coming out of the mask will make an annoying noise if it hits the sheets. If she can stay asleep, she's fine, but if she wakes up, On the rare nights that I don't use my CPAP, I don't even snore anymore, provided I can keep symptoms of my ever present allergies under control. I'd rather not need a CPAP machine, but it doesn't bother me terribly. I sleep pretty well with it.
  24. We are in agreement. I just found it a bit confusing the way you said it.
  25. Lukewarm in football would not be a good thing in McDermott's eyes, as lukewarm in Christianity is not a good thing in God's eyes. Frank Gore lives and breathes football.
