The remaking of the offense as a whole was not the only thing addressed by the OP. The offense in general, and Josh Allen in particular are works in progress. If they don't get better, there will be cause for concern, but you don't want to throw the baby out with the bathwater, just because the baby peed in the bathwater.

THE ROCKPILE REVIEW - Titans Meet the New Bills
TigerJ replied to Shaw66's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Just so you know, Shaw, "Process-itis" means literally that your process is irritated or inflamed. My sympathies - I hope your process feels better soon. -
Buffalo's offense could use more continuity on the offensive line, and some development time for their QB and TE. The latter is nothing that a little time won't cure. They could also use some speed at RB, but that's a luxury they don't have to have. Mostly Josh Allen just needs to continue growing into the role of starting QB.

Article: Forbes article on Duke Williams
TigerJ replied to Saxum's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The article engaged in a little unrealistic hyperbole: the 4.3 speed comment and calling Williams a #1 receiver. Other than that it was nice to see. -
I think it's unrelated. Perry is more of a special teamer than anything else. Three running backs on a 53 man roster is on the low end for an NFL team. For Buffalo, one of the three they've had is 36 years old, another was injured. It makes perfect sense to think the Bills believe it's wiser to go with four.

It's wonderful to be ignored by the NFL Media Machine!

Yeah, I wonder about that. Would the league consider the availability of hotel rooms in the surrounding area? Rochester, Hamilton Ontario, even Toronto? -
Week 7 Against Miami - Allen's First 300 Yard Game

I don't know. There is precedent for Miami running the table. -
Week 7 Against Miami - Allen's First 300 Yard Game
TigerJ replied to H2o's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's certainly possible. I haven't followed Miami this year at all, but I'm assuming that since the head coach is another rotten apple off the Belichick coaching tree, Miami will run the same scheme as New England and Tennessee. The difference is the Dolphins don't have the horses to do it as well as New England and Tennessee. If familiarity does what it should do, Buffalo should be able to handle it nicely. One of these games Josh is going to break out with a big passing game. Why not Miami? They can gain 150 yards on the ground too. -
I'm guessing the roster spot will stay open this week while Buffalo waits to see how the injured players are healing up. Specifically, I don't think it will be an offensive lineman, unless one of the walking wounded looks like he's going to be out for a while. I could see a DB or a running back too.

If anyone is seriously thinking of Christian Wade, it's just not possible. Under the league rules for players under the International Program, if he is placed on the the practice squad as the eleventh player, (as happened to Wade) he cannot be signed to anybody's active roster, including Buffalo's. He will be on the PS for the entire season. Next year he can be on the active roster.

Official LAMP at the Bye AFC condensed Power Ranking.

I can't put the Bills that high, but I'm encouraged that the Bills are 4-1 in light of the fact the offense is still a work in progress. -
There are a bunch of us old guys around here, guys who've been following the Bills for decades. I reached half a century of Bills fandom this year.

Duke WIlliams in relation to Kelvin Benjamin
TigerJ replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Aside from the heart issue (KB is the tin man), KB is a little bigger, but I think Duke Williams is more athletic and probably a little faster. The heart issue is the big factor though. -
In general, I had the sense that Josh was being kind of mechanical in his decision making, as if he knew he'd get in trouble if he did what he really wanted to do; make the bigger throw, run a little longer-then lower his shoulder, wait a little longer for the play to develop. It's not that he didn't hold the ball a long time on a few occasions, and he did make that one ill advised pass, but most of the time, he allowed his head and his coaching to overrule his gut feeling. I don't say this to be critical, and it's probably not unexpected, but what needs to happen is he needs to internalize this stuff so he really has a feel for when he needs to be careful and when it's appropriate to push the boundaries. That will take some time.

I figure there are five games left in the schedule that the Bills really should win. They have enough talent that barring some crucial injuries and more stupid play than they've had thus far, they should beat Miami twice and their remaining game at home with the Jets. They should also beat Washington and Denver. They have four games where they should be competitive and have a chance of pulling out. Those are their games against Philadelphia, Cleveland, Baltimore and Pittsburgh. They have just 2 really tough games where they have to beat the odds in order to come up with wins. Those games are the away games at New England and Dallas (Thanksgiving Day. If the Bills take care of business in their "should win" games, and are .500 in games that one would expect to be competitive, they could end up with 11 wins. That would get them into the playoffs as a wild card almost every year.

Duke had a lot more impact today than I expected.

I agree Buffalo needs to find a way to retain his services. He's not the same kind of player as Star Lotulelei, however. The Bills need to replace Lotulelei with a younger, more active true nose tackle when it can be done advantageously under the cap. Phillips is not a nose tackle. If Star is with the Bills next season, I see him getting fewer reps than Harrison Phillips

This. Josh Allen has had to play a lot of "hero ball" because he's had to, both in college, and to some extent in Buffalo last season. I can see why it would be hard to unlearn. Daboll focused on reining him in today, and except for one pass all day did a pretty good job. Once Daboll breaks that tendency, I think Josh will continue to hone his reading skills and know when it's safe and appropriate to attempt the deeper passes.
-
The rest is really needed for the offensive line. It's the Miami game after the bye, and it's a home game. That game, more than any other on the schedule is a "should win game" for Buffalo. The following week against Philly will be tougher, but the Bills are at home. Then they have Washington the week after that, another "should win game." So, halfway thought the season Buffalo ought to be at 6 wins at least. You can't ask for a much better situation than that.

Antonio Brown files grievances, seeking more than $40M
TigerJ replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I wouldn't be unhappy if a big ***** of money were to come out of Robert Kraft's pocket. It would be nice to see it go to a cause a bit more worthy than Antonio Brown, however. -
Is Our Head Coach Taking These Games Too Lightly?
TigerJ replied to Buffaloflash's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Seriously? The Bills opted for a conservative offensive game plan precisely because they have lots of respect for the Tennessee defense. After Josh Allen's bad game last week, Daboll wanted to rein him in and make sure he focused and short and intermediate throws. He knew that Tennessee can get after the QB, and didn't want Josh to be holding on the the ball too long, and then panicking because the protection had broken down. Basically it was a lesson learned from the Patriots game, which runs a similar defensive concept to Tennessee. -
Buffalo should sign him away from the Patriots PS. They could be getting a budding superstar at kicker just like they did at punter with Bojorquez. Oh wait. On second thought. . .
