WTH? CBS with worst mock yet.. Off the EDGE
TigerJ replied to 1st Ammendment NoMas's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think some times some who create mock drafts get the notion of wanting a certain player to go to a certain team (ie. Gross-Mattos to the Seahawks and Shenault to Green Bay) and just plug in players on some other teams so the matchups they want for the later teams can happen. "Oh, maybe I can make a case for Terrell Lewis to Buffalo." -
Baker Mayfield has fudgie footwork, VanPelt to fix

Baker Mayfield to AVP: "I like my footwork the way it is. What did you do in your NFL career to give you any right to suggest your way is better?" -
Depending on how the first round plays out, I might be willing to trade down a few spots to pick up an extra 2nd rounder. If Higgins and Shenault are both still on the board, as will as Chaisson, for instance, that extra pick looks tempting. Likewise, if that tier of WRs and edge rushers are all gone, a trade down might be the smart move.

I never said Jim Schwartz's defensive scheme is identical to McDermott's. I said there are similarities. The wide nine feature of a Jim Schwartz defense is just that, one feature, and I don't believe the ends line up wide on every play in any case. Schwartz uses mostly a 4-3 formation, as does McDermott. He tries to generate pressure in the pass rush using mostly his line, without a great deal of blitzing. So does McDermott. I believe he uses primarily zone defense in the secondary. His linebackers have to do a little bit of everything, including dripping into the short zone. When his line attempts to penetrate, the linebackers are responsible for staying in lanes to limit gains in the run game. I think Bradham is reasonably familiar with the responsibilities that the Bills require of their linebackers.

Wallace is smart and technically proficient at what he does. His problem is the lack of speed and strength. That means other teams are always going to be able to create mismatches if they have big, fast, physical WRs. If the Bills can avoid a mismatch, he'll be fine. When they can't he's going to lose some 50/50 situations or get lost in the receiver's trail of dust.

Coming out of college, he had near elite measurables, but was said to lack some in the area of instinct and football IQ. Jim Schwartz's system is not schematically all that different from what Sean McDermott does, so I don't think scheme fit is all that big an issue. His years of experience probably compensates sufficiently for the football IQ issue. It boils down to his asking price over against what he has left physically at 30-31 years old.

Does Josh live in Buffalo or WNY in the offseason?
TigerJ replied to Another Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm not too clear on that, but I lean toward him not being allowed at OBD until April 1. -
NYup/Parrino Mock Draft - rawwwrr
TigerJ replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Personally, if Buffalo goes DE in round 1, I think the receiver I might target in round 2 is Denzel Mims. Mims needs to be coached up on his route running, but I think he has more talent and upside. -
The fact that the Ravens have the easiest schedule in their division and the Bengals have the toughest schedule in the division is the fact that the Ravens get to play the Bengals twice while the Bengals have to play the Ravens twice. The fact that teams within a division tend to be bunched up in a SOS list is due to the high number of common opponents they share.

Brady says he will be playing in next years Super Bowl
TigerJ replied to ALLEN1QB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I like Tom Brady less every time he opens his mouth, and he long ago passed into negative territory. -
To be honest, I'm not feeling the need to go out and get a shiny new tight end. If one falls into Buffalo's lap and he can be signed to a reasonable contract, fine, but I think we're going to see significant improvement from Dawson Knox, and I think Sweeney can be a solid contributor as well. Kroft? I'm not as certain, but not ruling out more from him. The only one I really think is kind of a waste is Lee Smith. I get the "locker room value" and all that, but he was a clear liability on the field. He came with a reputation as a great blocker at the tight end position, but he spent the whole season as the next penalty waiting to happen at the most inopportune time, both false starts and blocking penalties (holding, illegal use of hands, whatever). To be honest, I'd try Nate Becker as my blocking tight end before I'd want Lee Smith back.

I'm fine with Tee Higgins at #22. He's a reasonable value at a position of need. He's a big guy, but I'm getting the sense that he's a pretty athletic big guy. He might not be as physical as you might like for a 6'4" receiver, but he's got good hands, good catch radius and will win 50/50s. Most importantly, he's nothing like Kelvin Benjamin.

ESPN players in need of fresh start list
TigerJ replied to Ethan in Cleveland's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm not that interested in being a buyer in the tight end market. Running back, wide receiver, offensive line, outside linebacker and cornerback are areas where I have more interest. -
Not sayun' yes or no. Just do the due diligence, Brandon.

Caserio staying with the Cheats - multi year deal
TigerJ replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Meh. Doesn't mean a whole lot. Belichick is the man in charge of personnel. As Hapless states, he is an information gatherer so Belichick can make informed decisions. Recently, New England thrives personnel wise mostly because they've been able to sign quality veteran free agents at a discount because those veterans are looking for Super Bowl wins to pad their resume. They have not really done a great job drafting, and with Brady in the twilight of his career (even assuming he stays with New England) New England my find the ready supply of free agents starting to dry up a bit, and the price rising. -
I'd consider it, but there are issues that need to be settled before I pull the trigger. Golladay has one more year on his rookie deal, will likely be due a very pricey contract in one year's time. That's not a deal breaker by itself, but I'd want to have at least a framework in place for an extension before the trade could happen. In other words, I'm not going to part with a first round pick unless I have decent odds I can keep the player I get in the trade for several years at a price I think the team can afford.

Stevie Johnson named HC at his HS alma mater
TigerJ replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I imagine that figuratively speaking San Francisco is right around the corner from that high school. Buffalo, on the other hand is 3,000 miles away. The familiarity of proximity is probably a major reason why it was put that way. -
Bill Barnwell of ESPN has a Dominos Fall thing.
TigerJ replied to MAJBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
For the First time in my life, I live pretty close to a Dominos restaurant. There are pizzerias all over the place on the west side of Rochester, so I've only tried Dominos once. Meh. -

Are the Pats* still getting punished?
TigerJ replied to Southern Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
When Goodell is sure the Patriots' window for winning the Super Bowl has closed, I imagine his investigation will be completed and a penalty announced. -
He's got good speed and length. He played pretty light for an edge rusher, but I think he's added some weight recently. I understand he's not real polished, and has depended on his athleticism to get to the QB, but he would have the chance to learn under one of the more crafty edge rushers in the game in Jerry Hughes.
