  1. His NFL.com profile coming out of college lists him as a Will linebacker. I think McDermott's scheme more or less treats the Will and Sam linebackers as almost interchangeable. The would be helpful since Matt Milano has pretty much been a fixture at the Will spot. He's fast and athletic. The knock on him coming out of college is that he was not a great tackler and didn't generate a lot of big, game changing plays. I'd be interested, but it would have to be at the right price.
  2. I don't think Brandon Beane has any idea at this point because he doesn't know who free agency and the first round of the draft are going to shake out. It' will depend on who Buffalo signs and who is left on the draft board In picks 10 - 21.
  3. Levi Wallace is quite slow for a CB. Norman is actually a hair slower. What Norman has that Wallace doesn't is body mass and corresponding strength, unless Wallace is able to add it in the current off season. What we don't know is how much Norman's physical traits have eroded with age or whether his declining production in DC was due to that or a poor fit to Washington's defensive scheme. I think it's pretty clear that Buffalo's zone defense is a better fit for him than what Washington ran, so we shall see.
  4. I'd like to see the Bills re-sign Shaq. I think Phillips is a problem for the Bills on the roster. No, not his attitude, which is just fine, but Phillips is a one gap three tech penetrator, who isn't very good in run defense. The Bills have what they think is a future star at 3 tech in Ed Oliver. Oliver has more upside as an all around pass rushing and run stopping 3 tech DT. They need a rotational guy behind Oliver, but they aren't going to want to pay him 8 - 9 million and have him be a liability at run defense. Shaq is a different story. He's probably never going to be a starter in the Bills plans, but he is an all around player as a rotational guy, and he can start if need be. Moreover, he's got the ability to play inside as a pass rushing DT on passing downs. It's that "all around" quality and extra versatility that makes him a more desirable signing than Phillips. If Phillips tests the market and finds he can't get the deal he wants, I'd have no problem if he comes back and plays for 5-6 million a year.
  5. Jefferson is considered an excellent route runner with good quickness and speed. He usually gets good separation.
  6. Not me. Higgins is significantly taller (a couple inches) but Treadwell is heavier. IMO Treadwell and AJ Brown are a lot more alike. Treadwell just hasn't been able to get his career untracked. Higgins has that huge catch radius only a tall receiver can have, but he's shown some athleticism on the field. On the other hand, he's played at just a little over 200 lbs. You'd think at that height he could carry another 20+ lbs without losing speed and agility. I think he could be more of a Mike Evans type receiver myself. Evans was about 10 lbs heavier than Higgins coming out of college, but since then he's added another 12-13 lbs of muscle.
  7. Harrison Phillips was seen more as a nose tackle despite being undersized, because he's very stro0ng and his wrestling background gives him great understanding of hand usage and leverage. He was seen as having somewhat limited "burst" to get into the backfield and be disruptive. Before he was injured, however, he was working pretty hard to be more explosive. It's not out of the question for McDermott to think he's got some upside at 3 tech.
  8. I don't think even Beane and McDermott know the answer to that yet. I think McDermott believes Ford and do it and will probably be significantly better than he was as a rookie. One factor, as your third option suggests, is the draft, but there could be some other factors that we don't know about.
  9. Basically, he's a big immovable 1 or 0 tech, isn't he. I assume much more of a run stuffer than pass defender.
  10. I'll wait till his pro day to decide what I think of him, I want to see his 40, of course, but I'd also like to see his 3 cone drill, his weight and his bench press. Speaking of which, his pro day is next Thursday.
  11. Gordon apparently thinks he should be about the top paid RB in the NFL. That's not going to happen with the Chargers. nor is he going to come to Buffalo where Beane just plain isn't going to give him what he wants. Not sure anyone will, which means if he does sign anywhere, he's probably going to be disgruntled - definitely not a "process guy."
  12. Breshard Perriman Demarcus Robinson Tajae Sharpe
  13. Someone should sit him down and explain to him that when you do stupid things as a player in the NFL expected to do great things, you can lose it all. Unfortunately, some people are what I call "stubborn stupid." If someone is stubborn stupid, they will continue to do stupid stuff even after they have paid a price for it multiple times. Whether Williams fits that mold or not remains to be seen.
  14. I'd be happy with Jefferson. I also get the reasoning that WR is a far deeper position in the draft than Edge rusher, and Buffalo might better get the best available edge rusher at #22 and pick up a WR in round 2 or 3,
  15. I don't want Epenesa whether or not I can get Armstead.
  16. Perhaps it could have been part of the anticipated move to a new software plan. or it could have been that new leadership personnel came in with a bias against message boards. I don't think it was a specific reaction to what was happening on BBMB. When McDermott came in, he had a lot more important stuff to be doing than checking out a message board.
  17. I certainly think a trade down could be an option. It will, of course, depend on who is left on the board. I wouldn't trade down too far myself, but I don't think you'd have to go too far to pick up a day 2 pick. If you had to, you could throw in a 6th rounder to get the day 2 pick you want.
  18. This. It's coincidence that brought them together. Working together doesn't automatically mean Josh is going to be impressed by him. I could see Beane asking him what he thought of Pittman, but we don't know what his answer will be.
  19. I've seen speculation that Antonio Gibson could switch to running back in the NFL. I think I could buy into that. He measured 6' and weighed 228 at the combine while running 4.39 in the 40. You know the guy can catch a football, but he did play running back in high school and had reps there in college as well. Lance Zierlein says he has an intriguing combination of size, burst, vision and power. The Draft Network says he deserves consideration on the back end of day two in the draft (round 3). There are things he needs to work on. I think I might try to go edge rusher in the first (Gross-Mattos if I can get him) Denzel Mims or Claypool in round 2 and Antonio Gibson as a running back in round 3. I'd maybe look for a linebacker in round 4. Of course, that all depends on how the draft unfolds.
  20. I wouldn't touch Durant with a ten foot pole in any round. He tested poorly at the combine, and multiple reports have suggested he's lazy. Definitely not a process guy.
  21. Sounds like a title change to give a label to what he was already doing.
  22. I agree Frazier deserves it but I do find it a bit curious that McDermott, whose own background is as a defensive coach and coordinator would have a defensive coordinator as an assistant head coach. Ideally, it seems as if a head coach with a defensive background would want to have an offensive coordinator in whom he has enough trust to bestow the title of assistant head coach rather than a defensive guy since he would have a better grasp of what the defensive guy is doing anyway. This does suggest that McDermott has not yet placed the same level of trust in Brian Daboll, nor, of course, has production on the field for the offense risen to a level where you can say McDermott should trust Daboll as much as Frazier.
  23. I'm sure Beane would like to keep him, but that's not going to make it happen. Beane has a price in mind, that is lower than what Shaq and his agent have in mind. He'll let Shaq talk with other teams, and somebody will probably be willing to pay him in the range that he's asking. If by chance he doesn't get an offer in that ball park, he knows he can come back to Beane, and still get a deal that pays him a lot more than he made on his rookie deal.
  24. Sure, Id love to see him in a Buffalo uniform, but it's not going to happen. I don't think Beane will think that Cooper would be enough of a difference maker with Josh Allen at QB to justify the price he will command.
