  1. Yeah, I agree with this. It may be that with the diminished outlook for success based on Brady's departure will mean the remaining members of the team will be less tolerant of Belichick's verbal abuse. However, it's also possible that Belichick will still be able to get his team to "out execute" New England's opponents going forward. We can't depend on New England's impending collapse. Beane and McDermott just need to continue to work the process in their own building. We'll, see what happens.
  2. I think Cam Newton has a starter mentality and I'm very doubtful that he can adjust to being a backup.
  3. I would not dismiss the possibility out of hand.
  4. That will depend in part on what Butler does. Other factors will include free agency in 2021 and strength at nose tackle in the draft in 2021.
  5. It's not impossible by any means. I'm not thinking it is the most likely position to be addressed in round 2.
  6. Interior D-linemen now include Vernon Butler, Star Lotulelei, Harrison Phillips, Ed Oliver, Quinton Jefferson and Vincent Taylor. Corey Liuget is an unrestricted free agent. It doesn't seem likely to me that the Bills will attempt to re-sign him. It's possible the Bills will carry 5 interior linemen. They won't carry 6. Vincent Taylor is the obvious odd m an out. That leaves them with some versatility on the inside. Harrison Phillips is a natural 1 tech, but he is diversifying some and can play some three tech too. I suspect Quinton Jefferson is a natural 3 tech, but It wouldn't shock me if he could play DE on run downs. He could also play 5 tech if Sean and Les Frazier wanted to run a little 3-4 to really throw a curve at the opposition. Buffalo can go with a jumbo D-line and still be fairly athletic, or they can go with lightening quick penetrators across the from, or a little of both. Defensive ends now are Jerry Hughes, Darryll Johnson, Mike Love, Trent Murphy, Jonathon Woodard (reserve future contract) and Mario Addison. That's 6 also. Jonathon Woodard probably doesn't have a ghost of a chance to make the roster. The odds aren't good for Mike Love's future either. Beyond those 2 easy cuts, we'll have to see what happens in the draft before speculating on Trent Murphy. If Buffalo picks up an edge rusher in the second or third round, Murphy might be a goner.
  7. An upgrade over Jordan Phillips at a better price?
  8. I was going to ask how happy she really is. It can be a challenge to keep a golddigger really happy
  9. If you're going to play professional football, it's nice to have actual fans.
  10. While I appreciate the OP's use of hyperbole, readers might appreciate knowing that Jason Witten is actually 37. He will turn 38 in May. Ben Watson, another ageless wonder at tight end played for New England last season, turning 39 on December 18. He has now retired . . . again.
  11. Running back or a big receiver. Claypool or Michael Pittman may still be around. I think I like Dobbins at RB more than Edwards-Helaire.
  12. My opinion is the same as several others: too much money and a too long deal for Quinn. Leonard Floyd at the right price is intriguing.
  13. I don't know, the reporter's last name starts with "H-a-c-K." I would probably lean toward Quinn due to the age difference.
  14. Sounds like a role player. He lacks twitchiness and change of direction skills but checks all the other boxes. He's smart, diagnoses plays well, can play zone, and is a great locker room guy. Sounds familiar, doesn't it. He'll never be a star, but he fits what Sean McDermott wants to do on defense. I imagine he'll get some reps as a SAM linebacker in Lorenzo Alexander's old spot.
  15. Between Shaq and J. Phillips, I would rather have kept Shaq.
  16. I think Ed Ogeron should sing the National Anthem for the next Super Bowl.
  17. Phillips has been a liability in run defense. Ed Oliver, though much smaller, has proven to have a better skill set as a run defender along with his upside as an interior pass rusher. Harrison Phillips will return to active status in 2020. He is going to be primarily a 1 tech, but he is becoming more explosive and developing a skill set as a 3 tech. I think the Bills can sign a good complementary 3 tech in free agency for less than Jordan Phillips' price. They have a significant percentage of the cap tied up in the D-line now. If they are going to spend money to retain a free agent defensive lineman, Shaq Lawson is a better run defender and is developing as a pass rusher, and he can play outside, or move inside on passing downs.
  18. Agreed. It's not that he serve a valuable purpose to a team, but there are several reasons why he's no longer a great fit for the Bills at the price he's likely to command in free agency.
  19. I don't think he's a first round pick mostly because running backs are devalued in the draft versus a number of other positions. I would seriously consider him in round 2.
  20. I don't think shutting down the public spectacle will significantly speed it up. Most of the 10 minute per team time limit is taken up by behind the scene stuff that is going to happen anyway. Then the NFL Network/ESPN have to come up with stuff simultaneous to that in order to keep their audience entertained. The networks can still do a lot of the same stuff, panel discussions on each pick, film clips, combine results etc.
  21. With Buffalo re-upping Spain and Long, it looks like fewer line changes than we all expected. I'm thinking maybe one draft pick. Don't know that there will be any free agent signings or not, but I'm not seeing a big push for a major upgrade.
  22. I wasn't thinking in quite those same terms, but I did have a similar reaction.
  23. The effects of the virus have already proven to be significant, and they are going to grow explosively over the next few weeks. They will only be a blip in the history books in the grand scheme of things. You don't alter plans on that scale due to a pandemic even if it's going to cause short term pain.
  24. I don't know Detroit's cap situation, but if they are not attempting to re-sign Glasgow, it is due to cap constraints.
  25. Agreed. Cam Phillips is talented, has great hands and will fight for the ball, but he's slower than a lot of defensive linemen. Against NFL DBs he won't get open nearly as often, and he's not going to out run anybody.
