  1. It's good for the Pegulas. They can sell more Bills merchandise. It doesn't affect the average Joe Bills fan much at all.
  2. The challenge for the league is that states may be in different places with respect to COVID-19 when the time for training camp comes in July. I presume that no team will be allowed to have players at team facilities unless every team is. I think New York State is on track to open things up, but with all of the protesting that has been happening since the murder of George Floyd, a major spike in COVID-19 could happen in almost any NFL city. That could, in turn, result in a resumption of shut-down mode. I hope training camps open on time, but there are plenty of potential flies in the ointment.
  3. First: the tweet - it was stupid. Fromm needs to be smarter about what he puts out there, and he needs to connect in positive ways to the black community and culture that is part of the NFL. Second: the reaction that Buffalo should dump him - If the US tried to get rid of every racist in the country or deny them the means to make a living, it would make the upheaval caused by COVID-19 look like a Sunday walk in the park. Once we call attention to racist language and behavior, I think the next step is to make an attempt to get the perpetrator to change his or her thinking. If he or she refuses to rethink their behavior and the factors that went into it, then maybe you consider moving them to the side and proceeding without them. Leslie Frasier referred to this in his comments yesterday.
  4. Kings comment on receivers in the draft is interesting. " But if any of the receivers available with the 22nd pick that Buffalo deal to the Vikes—Justin Jefferson, Brandon Aiyuk, Tee Higgins, Michael Pittman—turn into stars, Diggs had better be one in Buffalo." It is certainly possible, even likely that one or two in that group becomes a star. The problem is not all of them will be. What if you pick Jefferson, and it's Aiyuk who becomes a star? The reason Beane paid a good chunk of draft capital for Diggs is he thought the odds were a lot more certain that Diggs would be a big time receiver for Josh Allen, not to mention he would likely fill that role a lot sooner than a rookie. It is a difference in judgment. King thinks that his is the only legitimate opinion. That is not to his credit.
  5. I'm about 20 minutes away from St. John Fisher now, and I went over to training camp once last season. I enjoyed it and will miss it this year if they don't do it. It the league does dictate that they stay in their own facilities, I assume it's to avoid the challenge of trying to get fans to practice social distancing at a facility that does not lend itself to thge practice
  6. We happened to be vacationing in Florida (Walt Disney World) years ago when Buffalo happened to be playing a preseason game versus Tampa Bay, and they happened to play the Buccaneers in the Orange Bowl in Orlando. It was too much of a coincidence not to take advantage.
  7. Of course, a wild card berth means they're handing the division crown to the Patriots - again. Unacceptable.
  8. For some reason, the middle rounds of the draft have evolved into the area where agents think they have a little wiggle room as far as contract negotiation is concerned - guaranteed money and such. Top rounds are all pretty much locked in by slot and lower round players have little leverage.
  9. Riveron will still be involved with the review replay process, which is where he did a lot of his damage. We just won't hear his name as often. He gains some anonymity.
  10. The Jets drafted Mekhi Becton. He's certainly in the running for the most massive offensive lineman in the league. Otherwise, the Jets offensive line looks pretty ordinary both in terms of size and ability. Becton has lots of potential as he is unusually athletic for such a big guy, but he's a rookie. Rookie offensive linemen often take some time to develop. Just ask Cody Ford.
  11. People once rated Josh Rosen ahead of Josh Allen too. Some players just seem to have to prove everything, and some are given a pass. That's just the way media works.
  12. I understand the point. there is always an element of chance in every draft pick. I disagree that it is a total crap shoot. Preparation for the draft is about reducing the element of chance. You can never eliminate it, but in the first round, you might be able to bring your odds of success for that high pick up into the 30-50% range. In comparison, your chance of getting a long term starter in the seventh round is probably less than one in ten. If you didn't prepare, that's where your first round chances would be. Some teams are better in their evaluation too.
  13. Yeah, it looks like he's going to miss some games, and when he does come back he may be in McDermott's dog house for a while. That generally doesn't do good things for a young player's development.
  14. His main problem in Buffalo was the inability to hire a decent defensive coordinator. His offensive coordinator was nothing to write home about either, but Chan could at least help out with that. The defense was a train wreck.
  15. While Daboll certainly is from the Patriots coaching tree, by way of Alabama, I think Buffalo is past the stage where this is a critical issue. While Josh Allen came into the league as a very raw QB, he's also very smart. Beane and McDermott also value intelligence in their team building approach. Every interview I heard this year from a new player, whether drafted or free agent revealed someone who at least appeared to be bright and articulate. I believe that is by design as the defense is also pretty complex.
  16. People get hurt in Yellowstone by bison because they're idiots (people - not bison). Instead of staying 25 feet away, many try to get close enough to touch them. They are looking for photo ops. When we were in Yellowstone, we got very close to bison, but we were in our vehicle (a big conversion van) at the time. We were driving one way, a line of bison were in the other lane walking past us. And of course there were people out of their vehicles trying to get way too close to some other bison off the road. It's really amazing that a whole lot more people don't get seriously hurt. Fortunately bison are pretty placid most of the time. They can get irritated though, and you definitely don't want to be close to a one ton irritated wild animal.
  17. There are 32 teams in the NFL. That means on average there should be a little over 3 players out of the top 100 per team. If the Bills were an average team, you would expect there would be 3, but the Bills according to most are better than average now. They are thought by many to be likely division champions and in the top three teams in the AFC. If you think the Bills are that good, you either have to figure they have more than three in the top 100 list, or Sean McDermott is a leading candidate for coach of the year.
  18. The way people evaluate players is incredibly inconsistent. In the case of the NY Jets, they gave LaVeon Bell a pass for a horrible season in 2019 and looked at Frank "Older than Dirt" Gore as a positive addition to the team that will make them better. We'll have to see if Bell can bounce back, but I sure don't see it as a sure thing. If Bell isn't good for 1200+ yards this season, there's no freaking way the Jets are anywhere close to #3. I can accept Buffalo's low rating as Singletary's late surge last season may not have been enough to warrant a lofty projection this season, and Zach Moss as a rookie is something of an unknown, but there's some crazy thinking in that list (like Washington having a blank spot that gets ranked even with Moss).
  19. I think the Ravens win the division, but the AFC North is gradually turning into a really tough division with three good teams, assuming Cleveland is finally making progress.
  20. I don't know anything about the medicinal value of larch, but elderberry is supposed to be good for disease prevention. The price is still a ripoff.
  21. I think the stadium was designed to honor the recent arrival of professional hockey to Las Vegas. They designed it to look like a hockey puck. It'll be ideal for the NHL's winter classic game
  22. If this passes, is Belichick going to show up at a league meeting wearing blackface and claiming he has an ancestor who was a slave?
  23. I'm assuming that with players the league is going to enforce a common policy across the league so no team can gain an advantage over other teams (Buffalo) with a hyper careful state government.
  24. This news has been out there for a while. It's the first tape I've seen though.
