Most improved Bills player in '05 will be..
TigerJ replied to AJ1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Given that he played only in garbage time, attempted only five passes, and mostly handed the ball off, I should hope so. Whether he's good enough, I don't know, but I'm excited about the possibilities. -
JP will get better as a speaker as he matures. He still seems to mee like a pretty genuine guy, and while he's clearly confident, I don't see any of the cockiness/arrogance that he was reputed to have coming out of Tulane.

Has there ever been a union that botched negotiations so badly? I don't know about anything meaningful happening this season. If they can do something that would bring some long term stability to the NHL that does not leave small market teams like Buffalo virtual farm clubs to the larger market teams, I'll be happy.

I think Archie Manning (Peyton's dad) is younger.

First guitar - circa 1964 Sears Silvertone accoustic - A piece of junk -junked it appropriately enough Second guitar - Epiphone accoustic (model # long since forgotten) circa 1968 bought new at a local misic store for about $125. I still own it. It has a minor crack in the top that may be in the finish only. It's rather heavy for an accoustic, which may be why it's been so durable. Just bought Rogue herringbone accoustic electric online in December. I love the sound and playability. Paid only a little more than I did for My Epiphone 37 years ago. Bought a Kustom 30 watt accoustic amp online for about $150 to go with the Rogue. Other than some annoying "pops" when I move around too much or go to turn it off, it works just fine and gives me the extra volume I wanted for playing in church.

Alex Bannister WR - Free agent

Me too. I didn't say I wouldn't. -
What about Brian Griese for a backup qb
TigerJ replied to MartyBall4Buffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He's got warts, but so does everyone else tthat the Bills might sign as a veteran backup. I'd be happier with him than with some others, like Fiedler, Kordel Stewart, etc. -
Thanks for posting that. I would just say that the discussion on Buckhalter sounds more like speculation than a rumor. I'm splitting hairs, I know. Still, that would not be a bad way to go.

Alex Bannister WR - Free agent
TigerJ replied to Happy Days Lois & Clark's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I remember the talk last season. The only thing I wonder about is why, with that kind of size/speed combination, Seattle didn't try to do more with him as a WR. Surely, it doesn't seem as if it would take that long for a raw receiver to learn the pro game with good coaching. -

Last Ditch Meeting To Save Hockey Season
TigerJ replied to millbank's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Both the players and ownership have made mistakes. Ownerships mistake was to be evasive about hockey earnings. The league should have offered long ago to a mutually agreed (by management and union) upon auditor to make a thorough review of the earnings of every team so everyone knew what the financial reality was. I suspect the ownership is being honest about the fact that a number of teams have been in financial trouble, but they need to publicize the hard figures. The bigger mistake belongs to the players in my opinion. They think the gravy train has no end. They are dead wrong. The fan base doesn't justify the salaries they are being paid. Under the expired collective bargaining agreement major league hockey was a house of cards ready to collapse. The league needs a salary cap tied to revenue in order to remain viable, and ultimately to survive. If I were management, I would be about ready at this point to scrap the NHL as we knew it. Create a new league with a salary cap in the constitution. Start with younger players if need be and charge minor league ticket prices. As players mature and new stars emerge, the salaries and ticke prices can be allowed to creep back up to more reasonable levels, though they can't be allowed to get out of hand like they were. Screw the union and the veteran players. -
King is not claiming to have broken the story. Whatever you might think of him or his comments, the point of this is that he thinks it may be the right move. It's opinion, not news. The title says "Ten Things I Think I Think."

I've never spent to much time fretting over what the Bills should do. The don't tend to listen to me. I tend to look at what I think they might do and try and anticipate how the team might perform in that scenario. Right now it looks like the Bills have made up their minds to move past the Bledsoe era. OK. I've never been a huge Bledsoe basher, but if this is the case, I'm going to be thinking about Losman's prospects, not worrying about what might have been with Bledsoe. As I've said elsewhere, Losman will have had the benefit of more than a full year of learning the Buffalo system. He will know it cold. It is a simpler system than some in the NFL, and it depends on running more thann 60% of the time. There is enough cap room now, I think for the Bills to continue shoring up the offensive line, and the line ought to continue improving under the tutelage of line guru Jim McNally. There are never any guarantees, but Losman is in close to the ideal situation for a young QB to come in and start.

At the end of the article there is this quote: "Taylor has broadly suggested in recent days that Fowler and his partners might have a difficult time garnering league approval of the sale." Who is Taylor? The article doesn't even give a first name that I could find. I hate it when these idiot writers assume readers know something they might have no reason to know.

I doubt it. Too expensive.

I Have No Choice But to Support Losman
TigerJ replied to JohninMinn.'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's quite possible the Bills will take a step backward this year. I'm not going to get too bent out of shape by that possibility. JP will have had more than a full year of training in the Buffalo offensive system by the time he takes his first regular season snap. Yes, he was injured for a number of weeks during the 2005 season, but that does not mean he wasn't studying, observing, learning. Eli Manning struggled some in NY, though he improved late. Buffalo's offensive system is a lot more like the one Pittsburgh used with Ben Roethlisberger than what Manning was trying to learn in NY. In particular, Buffalo made a concerted and largely successful effort to move toward a strong running game combined with a simplified higher percentage passing game. If you're going to start a young QB, that is they offensive system of choice. With some additional cap room created, Buffalo is going to continue to shore up the offensive line. With a second year under offensive line guru Jim McNally, the blocking should only get better. I won't be so naive as to guarrantee Losman's success this season, but I think his chances of having a good season are actually pretty good. Next to Roethlisberger's situation a year ago, it's hard to imagine better circumstances for a young QB to come in and start.. -
Should have an open competition for QB
TigerJ replied to jahnyc's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
First of all, if all the noise we've been hearing lately has even a shred of truth, it sounds unlikely that Drew will be back next season. If Drew is gone, then who is the competition? Shane Matthews is not a starter. He just doesn't have the athleticism or the arm strength. He's not even sure he wants to play another season at 34 years old. If Buffalo imports a veteran free agent, it's not going to be someone who is very expensive, and would probably not be very good as a starter. Any rookie would be a late round choice or a free agent. JP should easily win that competition. -
I don't pay any attention to mocks unless they have a second round so I can see some kind of projected action for the Bills.
-
I can roll my tongue. I wonder if I could drink through it like a straw. I never tried that.
-
First choice, cut his pay to play back-up. Second choice, trade him for whatever you can get. Third choice, and most likely scenario, cut him.

OT: How much does replacing air bags cost?
TigerJ replied to Arkady Renko's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
A year ago my daughter hit deer with a 1995 Windstar. The deployment of the airbags was the difference between the insurance co. repairing it and totalling it. Not having the airbags would not have endangered them. It wasn't much of a collision. I'm sure the deer would disagree though. -
To this point Kelly seems to lean toward thinking JP should start. Obviously, he is not going to suddenly change his mind and state that Losman does not have it in him to be even a good QB without seeing him play next season. If JP's play is such that it would inspire Kelly to change his mind about Losman, I imagine that JP supporters would already have changed theirs. Fans seem to be more fickle than those who've been inside the business.

(OT) Mini-vans. Any advice on buying one?
TigerJ replied to PIZ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We are on our second Windstar, mostly because it's the only minivan my wife is comfortable driving. The first one was totaled after hitting a deer. It blew a head gasket. That was an expensive repair, but we learned a couple months later there was a recall on that, so we were able to get reimbursed. No other major problems. We've had our second Windstar for about a year. It has sensors on it towarn if you're getting too close to something backing up. Those are shot. Too costly to repair. No other real problems so far.
