Would you give Arizona a 2nd for Shelton?
TigerJ replied to PISSCHUNK's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Jonas played in and started 12 games as a rookie third round pick. I know it was at right tackle. I think there are two or three tackles who will be selected in round two that have the potential to start this year, including Adam Terry, Khalif Barnes, and Wesley Britt. If Chris Colmer is sufficiently recovered from a shoulder condition (Parsonage-Turner Syndrome) he might start as a third rounder. -
At last, a little actual Bills news. Good moves, and non-moves. Regarding running back, there is probably no position in football where experience matters less than the RB position. You either have it or you don't. I don't mind Buffalo trying to get a FA running back who's played in the NFL a bit, but it hardly bothers me if they don't.

I had a molar that needed a root canal about 5 years ago, more or less. After a couple years, when the tooth broke off of the root, the dentist put a couple titanium rods in the root and inserted a crown over that. It came out several times and he had to glue it back in, Then a couple months ago, when it came out again, he told me the root broke. I had the root extracted at the end of January. If it was a tooth I really needed for cosmetic reasons or other reasons, I could have a dental implant or a bridge. It wasn't a critical loss, so after $700 I'll live with the empty space. Fortunately, insurance paid for 80% of the cost, but I'm still a bit miffed that after all that expense and effort to save a tooth I've got nothing.

He would be more of a blocking TE, but he can do that well.

I've had a number of root canals done. No big deal. The first was about 18 years ago. I have to admit that was uncomfortable. The problem was the oral surgeon weighed about 500 lbs or more and had hands like hams. I think he tried to put both of them in my mouth at once. On a serious note, a root canal proceedure kills the nerve to the tooth, if it's not dead already. That means your tooth will turn brittle. I have lost two teeth to breakage within a few years after root canals. It's kind of frustrating paying big money for a root canal AND a crown only to end up losing the tooth after four or five years.

At the combine teams are limited to 60 interviews. It is the teams that initiate requests for interviews with specific players. Therefore, while Buffalo will not draft most interviewees, the fact that they are interviewing indicates at least some interest in drafting players at the positions where they interview.

Speed isn't everything, but Lee Evans is proof that if you are a good receiver, and you're fast, you can do a lot of damage in the NFL. -
Congratulations Cable Kid. Cable lady, be glad you don't live in Western NY. My 19 year old went on a date with her 20 year old boyfriend yesterday afternoon. Ten minutes later we got a call from her cellphone. "I'm OK, but we hit a patch of ice and snow. The car went into the ditch and then flipped. I can't get out and I'm upside down, but don't worry." Fortunately, they really were all right and did eventually get out. It's a given that it takes several years for kids to really gain the respect they need to have for foul weather conditions.

[OT] Time for everyone to heap good wishes

Congratulations. Now can you get us a great deal on some electronics? -
I see guys like Jackson and Jones as TE/WR 'tweeners. I don't think you're going to get much in the way of blocking out of them, at least for a few years. You can use them in the slot, and maybe as TEs in double TE situations where ther is a good chance you would want to pass to them, but you don't want them as your #1 guy.

I'd love for the Bills to be able to sign Pat, but if they can't do it, I'm optimistic that Buffalo has enough depth at DT to still be effective.

I had a gym teacher who didn't believe in using real names. He called me Chauncey, a corruption of Jonesey

Henry / Shelton article
TigerJ replied to Happy Days Lois & Clark's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, we all know Henry doesn't have sprinter's speed but he does have a couple very quick steps. For a running back those first couple steps are the most important. I'm glad we have McGahee though -
I spoke to Travis Henry's agent today

From another message board (BZ) its being reported that NFL Total Access says Buffalo and Arizona have an agreement in principle that in essence trades Shelton to Buffalo and Henry to Arizona. This is also being reported on Sirius Satelite radio and the NFL Network. Sounds like it's pretty much a done deal to me. -
Considering that Vinatieri is one of the best kickers in the game the Patriots really don't end up overpaying him by using the franchise tag. Griese would indeed be worthwhile to explore as a backup, but first he would have to be willing to accept back-up dollars and second, he would have to find no market for his services as a starter. If the Buccaneers really do want him as a starter, even if he were released, he would probably go back to them rather than sign with the Bills as a backup.

According to stories I heard, Shelton had some sort of injury in the offseason. Whether it was a carryover injury from the 2003 season or something that happened in the offseason, I don't know. Anyway Shelton said he wasn't able to work out in the off season. He came into camp overweight and out of shape and was in Dennis Green's doghous from the git go. Presomably he could have played in every game, but Green benched him in favor of Leonard Davis at left tackle. Eventually Shelton played himself back on the field at right tackle because the Cardinals had problems there too. Shelton has had some injury problems. I don't really know how they compare to Jennings'. He's regarded as somewhat of an underachiever since h was a first round draft choice coming out of college, but he does have some ability. He is considered coachable and willing to work, so maybe with good coaching under McNally he could be an upgrade over Jennings.

Belichick must be brainwashing his players.
-
If Munoz didn't have that last name, you wouldn't have nearly as high regard for him. There are several tackles who are better athletes and have fewer health issues.
-
I think most of his looks are due to his Mexican heritage.
-
That's my thinking too. It's one thing if Bledsoe had proven himself on the field in a Bills uniform, but he never really did.
-
He was a first round pick coming out of college, but has been saddled with the "overrated" label by some. Like Jennings he's had a problem with some nagging injuries over the last few years. At 29 he still has a little time to get things straightened out and have a decent career. While he was in Dennins Green's doghouse for reporting to camp overweight, he was dealing with an injury problem that prevented him from working out much in the offseason. Reportedly he has a good attitude and is willing to work.
-
Agreed! No one made Shelton come to Buffalo to get looked at. The very fact that he came here has to indicate some interest. It can't hurt to have the best offensive line coach in the NFL on the staff.
-
He says he runs a 4.34 40. Draft websites report that he runs in the neighborhood of 4.45-4.5. My guess is that if he goes to the combine and runs a 4.34, or does so in private workouts, you'll see his draft status rise, and Buffalo probably would not have a chance to get him.

I agree that the NHL needs to revamp some rules to neutralize or outlaw the trap defense. I know there are several possible ways to do that. As far as this season is concerned, to me it's just about meaningless. I just don't see the Stanley Cup having much significance with a 28 game season. The main reason for trying to have a CBA in place and salvage a little bit of a season is so that the league can conduct the draft. I understand the next great superstar is in this year's draft and the NHL wants him badly. Legally, I guess they can't even conduct a draft without a CBA in place.

Did Campbell say how his rehab is going? I'm far more interested in that than his sentimental Bledsoe thoughts. I do think that Flutie with size, an arm, and some class is a real intriguing possibility.
