Beane / Farwell Scouting Prowess: Bass vs. Rohrwasser
TigerJ replied to IgotBILLStopay's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree on the Bills drafting kickers. Most of those they've drafted have produced for other teams over the years. -
Brian Daboll has an affinity for a 3 receiver set, but Davis' emergence might force him to employ more 4 receiver sets.

Figuring out the OL depth chart
TigerJ replied to First Round Bust's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Me too. I think the starting offensive line is Dawkins - Spain - Morse - Ford - Williams. I think Nsekhe is a swing tackle Winters is a reserve interior lineman, and Ryan Bates is your emergency jack of all trades. -
Jordan Phillips, while very disruptive in the passing game was somewhat of a liability in run defense. Ed Oliver, in Phillips' 3 tech position is a better run defender despite his smaller stature, and is every bit as disruptive as an interior pass rusher. Lotulelei is more of a run defender than a pass rusher, but Harrison is solid against the run, and Butler, I think, is fine against the run, and both of them offer more in the way of a pass rush. I'm not worried about run defense slipping this season.

Beane / Farwell Scouting Prowess: Bass vs. Rohrwasser
TigerJ replied to IgotBILLStopay's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, Belichick has had 2 consecutive Hall of Fame quality place kickers. I'm optimistic about Bass though. He's got an easy last name too. -
Gunner's roster thread.... 2020 style - UPDATED
TigerJ replied to GunnerBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think Webb has a shot to make the 53 man roster, while Fromm could either make their roster as a third QB or be put on the PS. He has a better arm and more athleticism than Barkley, and while Barkley has more years in the league, Webb is regarded as being very smart. He ran the practices for the group of players that Josh Allen recruited to practice in Florida. I think Gilliam has a shot to displace DiMarco at FB. He's bigger and stronger, more athletic and is a core special teamer. The only area where he's inferior is experience, and he comes much cheaper. I think Harrison Phillips is close to being a lock. -
More early season injuries...or less???
TigerJ replied to Bakin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
More. Training camp is no where near as grueling as it was 20 years ago and teams like the Bills with an up to date training staff are careful to structure training camp in such a way as to minimize injury not only in training camp, but transitioning into the season. This year, everything is condensed. Players should always be fit, but the transition from offseason fit to game fit increases the likelihood of injury early in the season. I'm sure the Bills know that and they are trying to do all they can to reduce the risk. -
Tyrod is a good guy but is tendency to err on the side of caution puts a ceiling on his game. Fitz can be streaky, and will put together a bunch of mistakes in a game sometimes, but you know he's always playing to win and sometimes you get the impression Tyrod is playing not to lose.

Having officiated a bunch of memorial services/funerals over the years, I can tell you that enabling closure is one of the main goals. It doesn't end the pain but points to a future where there is healing and hope. My heart goes out to you and to Fitz. I know my mom is probably not too long for this world. I know there will be a change in perspective when that happens. All of a sudden my siblings and I will be the patriarchs and matriarch of the family.

No headlines yet, and nothing at the official Dolphins website, but I found this blurb at NFL.com: Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick left practice early after learning that his mother passed away, according to head coach Brian Flores. There is no time frame for his return to the team, Flores said. Fitzpatrick had recently left camp to spend some final moments with her, according to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. https://www.nfl.com/news/saturday-s-nfl-training-camp-injury-and-roster-news-x7723

That's what I'm thinking too. It's not impossible that the Bills could still switch out players at the low end of their depth chart, but Harrison Phillips, Ed Oliver, Quinton Jefferson, and Vernon Butler aren't going anywhere. Akeem Spence - a smallish run stopper who lacks explosiveness, and doesn't show a lot of strength in rushing the passer. Daryle Banfield - an Ivy leaguer. He's smart, but info is scarce across the internet. He's young - 22. Signed as UDFA of Chicago a year ago. He's 6'3" and 300 lbs. Toby Johnson - Georgia Bulldog 6'4" 290 lbs. He has hung around the fringes of pro football since he finished college in 2014 making barely a ripple in the pond. Gabe Wright - 6'3" around 300 lbs Can get some pressure in the passing game but has been weak against the run. If you're looking for answers from this group, then your defensive line has a huge problem.

CBS power rankings..Cowboys 4th, Bills 26th?
TigerJ replied to mjd1001's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't see this as a prediction of how well the Bills will do in the season. The parameters of the ranking are events in training camp. They have apparently weighted Josh Norman's hamstring pull and Devin Singletary's fumble in the scrimmage pretty highly. Then there is Chris Brown's wagging tongue. I think those things are barely even blips on the radar, but If they want to create click bait, they can choose to do so. -
Will Beane make a trade before cuts?
TigerJ replied to ColoradoBills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Buffalo has an overabundance of depth at the interior of the offensive line, particularly if Ford plays mostly at guard, which it appears he might do with Darryl Williams impressing on the outside. How much depth depends on how long the Bills think it will take for Jon Feliciano to heal from his pectoral tear. Defensive line is another possibility but there may be less trade capital for Beane to part with there. Trent Murphy might be an expendable veteran, but his contract may make him less attractive. I don't think the Bills are inclined to get rid of Mario Addison or their other offseason acquisitions, and a lot of the other depth consists of younger, unproven players who will command little or nothing on the trade market. -
Around the corner; Roster and Practice Squad Info

Names, but not positions. -
The Jets thought so too. LOL

If I could actually take you seriously, Jimmy, you might make me mad. Instead, I see you as a living breathing caricature. Because of that, I think you're hilarious.
-
Did he actually admit it? I know that was universally believed by Bills fans, including me. In any case, all indications are Tyler Bass is happy to be a Buffalo Bill, and patience could result in a nice long term payoff.
-
Bass needs to work on becoming a little more consistent, but the Bills had to go with him because of his big leg. A few decades ago, Buffalo drafted a promising place kicker. He had a terrible training camp and the Bills got rid of him. Gary Anderson went on to have a Hall of Fame career. I'm glad the Bills took a chance on the kid.

Dan Lavoie at Buffalo Rumblings can usually be counted on for a good summary. https://www.buffalorumblings.com/2020/8/27/21404319/josh-allen-and-buffalo-bills-starters-cleanly-handle-backups-in-thursday-training-camp-scrimmage On a blustery day in Orchard Park, the Buffalo Bills starters delivered a complete, impressive performance against the team’s backups in their Thursday scrimmage. Josh Allen completed 70% of his passes and threw for 300 yards. He threw two touchdown passes and ran in another score (he also had an interception, deflected off the hands of his receiver). Meanwhile, the backup offense was constantly under duress by the starting defense. Aside from a 25 yard carry by T.J. Yeldon, they managed almost nothing in each drive. . .

Cam Newton ‘absolutely not’ the Patriots’ starting QB (?)
TigerJ replied to cd1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Julian Edelman would seem to agree. -
Well, he is an employee of the Bills, and as such they can give him whatever orders they want regarding what he tells the public. A suspension seems a bit extreme for a first offense. I wonder if he's been warned before. Obviously something happened as this is probably the time of year that he would ordinarily be most visible. As a fan, I'm feeling rather starved for information as it only seems to come in dribbles as compared to the flow of ordinary years.

Manish Mehta credentials pulled by NFL
TigerJ replied to Captain Hindsight's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm trying to decide if the situation with the Jets and Mehta is a hot mess, or a train wreck, or a dumpster fire. I have come to the conclusion that it is. -
Jets offense vs backups in their scrimmage today
TigerJ replied to BillsMafi$'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If the Jets go 3-13 this season and if Gase is not canned, I predict that next year he'll pull a page out of his Miami debacle and proclaim how he's going to change the culture in 2021. Which will fail miserably because Adam Gase is still Adam Gase. -
As a Bills fan, my sentiment is the same and most all of the other posts in this thread, but he's playing to the Patriot fan base. They will eat it up. LOL

Rd 4, Pick 128: WR Gabriel Davis UCF
TigerJ replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Even if he is as good as he appears to be in training camp, OROY is going to be a tough honor to achieve because he's locked into the 4th receiver position barring injury. Diggs, Brown and Beasley aren't going anywhere, and that means touches are going to be hard to come by. Two receptions per game, even with a gaudy 20 yards per reception still only nets him 320 yards. That's not going to win any post season honors. Now if John Brown goes down with a . . . do we really want to think about that? Honestly, I think Zack Moss has a better shot at OROY. After all, he's going to be sharing reps on running plays with only one other player (Devin Singletary) and that might be more of a 1a and 1b pairing at RB as opposed to having guys ahead of him on the depth chart.
